Train runs over man :
A retired SDO of Powercom was killed when a train ran him over on Monday night. Mohan Singh of Ranjit Nagar was crossing the railway line when a DMU going from Jalandhar to Hoshiarpur ran him over. He was killed on the spot.Peddler held with heroin:
A peddler was arrested with 10 gm heroin, while another man was held with an unlicensed revolver and 8 bullets. Jasvir Singh of Harkhowal was nabbed with 10 gm heroin at Jallowal village. Harwinder Singh of Mahilpur was nabbed at a
naka. He was carrying an unlicensed weapon. Cases have been registered. Man dies in mishap:
A scooterist died when his scooter was hit by an unidentified vehicle near Mandiala village on Jalandhar Road on Monday night. Sarwan Singh of Meghowal Ganjyan village succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital. A case has been registered.

CU offers scholarships:
Chandigarh University (CU), Gharuan, has announced scholarship schemes for meritorious students of Patiala. The college authorities notified that through CU-Scholarship Admission Test (SAT), Class XII pass students who scored 75 percent board exams are eligible for the scheme. The university has also offered fee waiver for the wards of defence personnel. It also announced financial assistance for SC/ST, OBC, physically challenged and sportspersons.

2 hurt in firing incident: Two persons were injured at Dhotian village here on Monday during a clash at a marriage function. The Sarhali police have registered a case against Preetu of Tapiala village (Lopoke) for allegedly shooting at Manraj Singh and Gurpreet Singh. The accused has absconded.
