Youth murdered
:
A 25-year-old youth was murdered by some unidentified persons using sharp-edged weapons near Shamsher Nagar on Monday night. The victim, identified as Punjab Singh of Madofal village, was returning home on his motorcycle after duty when the incident took place. He was taken to the Civil Hospital where the doctors declared him "brought dead".

3 booked for gangrape
: Three persons of Makha Chehla village have been booked for allegedly gangraping a woman of the same village. The victim accused brothers, Jaspal Singh Kaka, Karamjit Singh and Pirtpal Singh, of assaulting her husband and raping her.

Life term for murder:
In a murder case, Additional Sessions Judge, Sangrur, Virinder Aggarwal on Tuesday awarded life sentence to Buta Singh and his wife Rajpreet Kaur (Badrukhan village), Sarbjeet Singh (Plasaur village) and Nirmal Singh (Khadadpur village in Patiala). They were held guilty of killing Buta Singh's father Jaggar Singh over land dispute.

Students come to ailing girl’s aid:
NavSankalp, a students-run charity association of the DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh, donated a sum of Rs 51,000 for the treatment of Jasdeep Kaur, a year-old girl suffering from tricuspid atresia, a congenital heart diseasJasdeep’s father Hardeep Singh is a labourer earning about Rs 6,000 per month in Ludhiana district of Punjab and was unable to bear the cost of her treatment.

Two youths detained near LoC:
Two youth from Srinagar were detained in the Keran sector close to the Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier Kupwara district. They were moving around in suspicious circumstances. Police sources identified the two youths as Irfan Ahmad and Sajad Ahmad Bhat. “ We are questioning them,” the police source said.
