Government Multi-Speciality Hospital, Sector 16 (GMSH-16).
Since past 14 years, the management- advisor to the administrator, sports secretary, director sports, joint director sports of state-run hockey and football academy- is struggling hard to follow the rules framed by them. Today’s revelation, also hinted the blind trust or non-seriousness of high level officials, who are running academies from the sports complex of Sector 42. As per the documents (available with the tribune team), issued by the Digital X-ray Department of GMCH-16, 10 hockey players out of selected 13 and 13 football players out of selected 16, are overage as per the record. The Chandigarh Administration, in their trials conducted in the month of March, had asked players born after January 1, 2004, to appear for the trials. And the selected players should fall to be of 10 years after the age verification test. However, contradictory, these ‘mentioned’ players were declared to be of between 12 years to 15 years as per the official records of the hospital, initiated by the panel of expert doctors. It is worth mentioning that these trials were conducted by visiting various cities of the region and using public money. Highlights
Fact-finding report Followed by a series of stories in Chandigarh Tribune on over-aged players, former finance-cum-sports secretary asked for a fact-finding report. In the report, SDM (south) Kashish Mittal found loopholes in the functioning of authorities along with bad condition of the facilities being provided in the academy. The matter was even brought to the notice of the advisor to the administrator, KK Sharma, who is also the president of Chandigarh Sports Council. However, nothing worthwhile has been done in this regard.
