Phagwara
Two youths found dead: An unidentified youth was run over by a train near Bhattian village on the Phagwara-Ludhiana rail section on Monday night. The deceased was crossing the railway line. The Government Railway Police have registered a case and sent the body to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination. In another incident, a decomposed body of a youth was found near a crematorium in Kandola Khurad village on Monday night. The police have sent the body to the Civil Hospital for autopsy to determine the cause of the death.

Man held with drugs: The police have arrested a drug peddler, Karanvir alias Veeru of Phuglana village, and seized 80 gram of intoxicant powder from him. He was arrested at a barricade put up in the area, the police have said.

Woman raped:
A woman of Sarhali village, 22 km from here, was allegedly raped in her house five days ago. The police have booked the accused under Sections 376 (rape) and 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the IPC. The village elders tried to strike a compromise between the two sides, but the victim was adamant on registering a case. The victim (50), in her statement, to the police alleged that the accused forcibly entered her house at night when she was alone and raped her. She also alleged that the accused took away Rs. 2,000 and her mobile phone.

Dr Rajiv Kapila has been promoted as State Licensing Authority (Ayurveda) while Dr Aarti Verma has been appointed as drug inspector (Ayurveda) by the Chandigarh Administration. Dr Rajiv Kapila is gold medalist and MD in Ayurveda.

Mohali
Anti-drug seminar: To create awareness against drugs, the Fourth Commando Battalion, Punjab Armed Police, organised an anti-drug seminar at Commando Complex, Phase 11, here to mark its 21st foundation day. Commandant Inder Mohan Singh Bhatti unfurled the Tricolour and asked the cops to wage a war against drugs. “Drugs have paralysed our state and most youngsters are not able to pass physical test to get entry in defense forces”, said Bhatti.
