Kho-kho, kabaddi face neglect
Chandigarh, April 2 If processed now, it would take almost a year to include these games under gradation. “We have not received any confirmation or approval from the UT Administration in this regard. With no confirmation, these games cannot be included under the gradation policy this year. However these games may get included under the gradation policy from next session, if processed now,” said District Sports Officer. On other hand, sports lovers have opposed the alleged leniency of the department towards keeping their promises. “Earlier, the department was claiming that these games are not in the Olympic charter and now this delay. One year will be wasted due to the delay. Had it been the case with cricket, things would have worked in no seconds. The game is not included in the Olympic charter but it is still under the gradation policy. The policies should be served equally,” said a kabaddi coach of the Sports Department. “The department is being run with a laidback approach and the whole focus is on selective games. If the process was announced, but the concerned never gets notified then who is to blame? What are officials of the Sports Department busy working on,” said Parkash, a national-level roller hockey player. A kho-kho player said, “If cricket has been included in the gradation policy on the basis of mass game (as per officials of the Sports Department), then what measures are adapted to judge the basis of kabaddi and kho-kho. Both the events receive high number of teams and entries of players in state-level championships. The authorities must make equal policies for everyone.” An assurance to include kho-kho, roller hockey and kabaddi under the gradation policy of the UT Sports Department was announced by former finance-cum-sports secretary VK Singh in 2013. Till date, however, no step has been taken in this direction. |

The Chandigarh Tribune found out that on April 1 and 2, no golf cart facility was available for the elderly. Employees and priests said golf cart was available only on the first day of the fest. A senior official with the administration said, “I agree that the golf cart is not available for three days now. I don’t know why it was returned.” Devotees’ take
Ram Avtar, a resident of Sector 21, is polio-stricken. “I managed to enter on the premises with great difficulty as so many nakas have been laid at so many points. I thought t like every year, a golf cart would be available but, the Class IV employees apprised me of its unavailability. It is so disappointing.” Vidya Devi, 80, said, “It is difficult to climb the stairs. I visited the temple only because I thought golf cart will be available.” “The golf cart is meant only for VIPs? Do we have to become a VIP to ask for a golf cart as well?” asked another devotee, Tejas, who was giving a hand to his elderly father to climb stairs. A priest at the temple, on the condition of anonymity, said, “The golf cart is hired from the gaushala. It was hired only for Governor and then returned immediately, despite the fact that the Administration had opened the facility for public.” Chief Executive officer (CEO) SK Miglani, said, “It should be available to the elderly and the physically challenged. I will look into the matter.” |
