CS directs Education Dept to prepare list of govt teachers
Dehradun, March 29 “The strength should be rationalised in every school by transferring teachers from the overstaffed schools to ones facing staff shortage. Also, an investigation will be carried out to find out how the understaffed schools are functioning and whether they have hired teachers from elsewhere. If such a case is there, an FIR will be registered against the erring teachers and school managements,” he said. An allocation of Rs 786 crore has been made for school education for the academic session 2014-15. Radhika Jha, Director, School Education, said, “Around 50,000 deserving students have taken admission in public schools and Rs 50 crore has been spent for
providing books, uniforms and fees.” “Out of Rs 404 crore allocated last year, Rs 325 crore has been spend till February. As many as 17 Kasturba Gandhi Girls Schools have been set up and the remaining will come up soon. Of the 1,171 schools affected by the natural disaster in June last year, the drinking water facility has been resumed in 422 schools,” she added. Schools can’t force parents to buy books from select shops
Dehradun, March 29 In a press note issued here, City Magistrate Girish Chandra Gunwat said it had been found that several public and private schools were forcing the parents to buy the prescribed books and other materials from a particular shop. “Besides, the parents are also forced to buy other stationery items from the same shops. This is causing a lot of harassment to the parents,” he added. “The ban will be effective in the areas falling under all police stations, including Kotwali, Patel Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Rajpur Cantt, Dalanwala and Nehru Colony. The schools falling in these areas will not force the students or the parents to buy books, uniforms or other items from any particular shop. The ban will be effective till May 29 and anybody found violating it will be liable for action under Section 188 of the IPC,” said the City Magistrate. It is a common practise in the city that schools insist on parents to buy books and other stationery material for their children only from shops suggested by them. This has always caused a lot of resentment among the parents who find it difficult to go against the directives of the school authorities. However, now the City Magistrate has given them the much-needed relief. |

Ex-servicemen urged to vote for Congress in LS elections
Dehradun, March 29 Rawat told mediapersons here that serving personnel and ex-servicemen and paramilitary forces had always supported the Congress for its policies. He said, “It was the Congress that gave a green light to the much-awaited 'One rank, one pension' for the defence forces of the country.” “It may be recalled that since the freedom struggle 67 years ago, the Opposition has been able to come to power for 13 years only and the rest of the time the people of the country has voted for the Congress. Indian cinema mirrors demands of youths
Pithoragarh, March 29 “If you see films right from 1940 to the present day, you will have a sense of politics and society of the era through these,” he said. Javed was delivering the fifth BD Pandey memorial lecture on “Changing cinema in the context of changing Indian society” at the Uttarakhand Sewa Nidhi at Almora today. The well known lyricist and script writer said the ambitions of the youth were changing day by day and the influence of the modern technology was evident on them. The films were also changing accordingly. “Focus on the villain instead of the hero in the present cinema is a symptom which reflects the changing pattern of society that values evils for success,” said Javed. He added the film art was not only entertainment but also reflected the mental shape of society of the time. “We will have to understand the difference between circus and the film art,” said Javed. Elaborating the influence of films on society and the social influence on films, Javed said in the bygone days Muslims used to be presented as a communal element but today Hindus were being proudly depicted as communal. “This new found value will have its influence on the Bollywood cinema as the coming generations will prefer to see this face of Indian society too,” he said. Javed praised the scenic beauty of Uttarakhand and its valleys. He said the state could become the best location for film shooting provided the state governments also thought so. “It is the government which adds extra weight to the tourism industry by helping film producers by giving facilities to them in their respective states,” said Javed. Dr Lalit Pandey, son of late BD Pandey, hosted the lecture. BD Pandey was the Governor of West Bengal and Punjab at the time of his retirement and had established the Uttarakhand Sewa Nidhi to work for village development and women empowerment. |
