Docs’ protest inconveniences patients
Ludhiana, March 6
Patients at some of the major hospitals had a tough time, as doctors went out to protest against the unprecedented violence against the medical fraternity at Kanpur. Although the Indian Medical Association (IMA) had rolled back the bandh call, yet the medical fraternity in Ludhiana today showed solidarity by wearing black badges and organising a rally.

No projects of SAD-BJP govt completed in 7 years: Tewari

The Union Information and Broadcasting Minister and local Member of Parliament (MP) Manish Tewari today asked the Akali-BJP government in the state to show a single project which had been completed in the past seven years. He said laying the foundation stones was one thing and completing the project was another thing.

Follow poll code of conduct or face action: DC to political parties
Ludhiana, March 6
Deputy Commissione-cum-District Election Officer Rajat Aggarwal appealed to all candidates of political parties to follow the model code of conduct implemented in the wake of the Lok Sabha elections scheduled to take place on April 30. He warned in case of violation of the model code of conduct, action will be taken against the candidate or the related party.

Criminal breach of trust
BJP leader, three others convicted
Ludhiana, March 6
Judicial Magistrate Amrinder Pal Singh has convicted BJP leader Chaman Lal Chaitly, Balwant Singh, Narinder Kaur and Daljinder Kaur of Ludhiana in an 18 -year-old case of criminal breach of trust. They were sentenced to three years imprisonment under Section 409 and 120-B of the IPC. A fine of Rs 5,000 each was also imposed on the accused.

Gardener dies in hit-and-run case
Ludhiana, March 6
A 55-year-old gardener died in a hit-and-run case at Malhar Road here today. The victim has been identified as Kailash, a resident of the Ghumar Mandi area. The police said Kailash was working at the house of a cinema owner. He was visiting Malhar Road on a bicycle to purchase plants.

Mystery shrouds security guard’s death
Ludhiana, March 6
A 27-year-old man died under mysterious circumstances at an under-construction building on Mall Road. The deceased has been identified as Harvinder Singh of Halwara. He was working as a security guard for a private security agency at the under construction building on Mall Road.

Fauja Singh calls upon youth to shun drugs

"Drugs have ruined the youth of Punjab. Look at them today, they are busy working on their gadgets but cannot come out of their homes for a run," said 103 -year-old marathon runner Fauja Singh while signing his autobiography written by Khushwant Singh at Ludhiana today.

It is commonly believed that plants feed on humus, compost and sunlight. But, carnivorous plants including fly trap, sun dew, butter wort were on display at the Annual Flower Show of Punjab Agricultural University. These plants feed on insects, said Maneet Singh Dawra from Plantae Paradise Nursery.

Tax recovery: In losses, MC to hold 50 camps

Man concocts robbery story to settle score
Ludhiana, March 6
What could have been a broad-daylight robbery story turned out to be a concocted one. Rishipal Goyal of Pattran told the police that two men travelling in a car intercepted and assaulted him at the busy Bharat Nagar Chowk. He alleged the duo fled after snatching his bag containing Rs 50,000 and a phone.

Two cyclists were crushed to death by a speeding truck at Vardhman Chowk here this late evening. The victims have been identified as Varinder and Sulahi Mehto. The two were daily-wage earners and were on their way home when a speeding truck hit them from the rear before running over them around 10pm.
