One line is enough!
In this week of love, how can we not talk about pick up lines? Here are a few that have been used by and for celebrities from the region…
Jasmine Singh

Statutory warning: Try this at your own risk. There is a fair chance that these stunts might boomerang! We’ve seen and heard about the drooling mush, the gentleman kinds, the stalking kinds, the desi kinds; no matter what kind of love you have been a part of, there is one thing that has been common in all — those cheesy, those funny, sometimes effective pick up lines. We are not mentioning the repercussions, but pick up lines sure are an intrinsic part of love! With Valentine’s Day approaching, we build up your confidence by sharing with you the pick up lines celebrities have used and the ones someone used on them! You might get a clue or two.

Familiar word

I am very honest with pick up lines. I use the age-old cheesy line, but I own up to that. I always say I have seen you somewhere! I bet you have heard it before, but this is true.

Look matters

I have always been very filmy, but never used pick up lines. Probably, my look worked! The line that I remember and one that made me go hysterical is when a girl asked me — do you have a license? I replied yes and asked why? And she goes — because you drive me crazy!

Dream run

I am always thankful to my fans, girls or boys alike, who like me. It was ages ago when this girl was following me; I wouldn’t stay stalking, simply walking. I turned back to ask her politely why she was following me. The girl smiled and said — my parents have taught me to follow my dreams!

Chemical formula

Getting a compliment from someone is always nice. I bumped into a girl in US who asked me if we have studied together. ‘I bet we had chemistry’, she said grinning ear to ear. I only had inspirational quotes, no pick up lines actually!

Cute gesture

The 2012 Ponds Femina Miss India Finalist has never used a pick up line. But once a fan asked for my picture saying, ‘can I get your picture to show my friends that angels really exist?’ It was cute and impressive.

Sing along

I haven’t had the time to coin any pick up line since the time I have started singing and become a public figure, but girls I meet use certain pick up lines off and on. Last week, I had gone out to see a movie, a girl sitting next to me started humming Dardaan nu kaaton sheydey tu; it took me a minute to realise it was my song.

Open up

A pick-up line or chat-up line is a conversation opener with the intent of engaging an unfamiliar person for romance or dating. Overt and sometimes humorous displays of romantic interest, pick-up lines advertise the wit of their speakers to their target listeners. They are most commonly used by men who pick up girls. Pick-up lines range from straightforward conversation openers such as introducing oneself, providing information about oneself or asking someone about their likes to elaborate attempts including humour.

On this Kiss Day, we wonder whether public display of affection is acceptable and how much is too much…
Ashima Batish

Unlike other days, it gets complicated on the Kiss Day. A rose on a Rose Day, teddy on the Teddy Day, chocolate on the Chocolate Day, hug on the Hug Day; so by that measure a kiss is a given on the Kiss Day – be it a humble peck on the cheek or the French version of it! While the former is still okay, for the latter one has to go place-hunting —inside a car, behind the bushes, dark corners, solitary parks; it requires a lot of effort. At the same time, the threat of getting caught looms large. Public Display of Affection (PDA) has won itself an abbreviation, but not legality in actual terms. How far is too far is subjective, people share their definitions this Kiss Day.

Jenjum Gadi, a fashion designer, says that Kiss Day doesn’t enjoy any significance in India. With fears of moral police breaking into action looming large around Valentine’s Day, celebrating Kiss Day would mean provoking the self-professed culture-conservators of India. “People ogle at a girl wearing a skirt at a public place, so celebrating Kiss Day is a far-fetched thing. Only in a group of friends is display of affection accepted. It’s another matter that people throng the multiplexes to watch Sunny Leone’s films.”

Gone are the days when a kiss on screen was represented by birds crossing their beaks or flowers brushing against each other — seventeen kisses introduced Mallika Sherawat to the audience. Emran Hashmi won the serial-kisser tag owing to his consistent ‘lip-service’, and it created some uproar when Ram-Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar attempted it on television. Mahi Gill, who has gone bold many a times on screen, says, “It is accepted in reel-life now. But in reality it’s different, even a bear hug invites cold stares from people. As for me, it gets a bit embarrassing to see people indulge in public display of affection if they go overboard.”

Respect for privacy has to come from both sides. If people give space to couples, even they must understand what works in the Indian way of life. VJ Andy, host of Dare to Date says because the institution of family is so inherent to the society of India, we should value what people around us are comfortable with. “At the same time, we should not be stuck with age-old legislations; like we still have to abide by the Article 377. We need to find a middle path where people can enjoy privacy and yet it does not get awkward for those around,” says Andy.

So those who manage to find a quiet corner in a park shouldn’t be bothered, after all they did make an effort to find the right place. If a kiss can be used as a gesture of friendship like in Benetton’s famous Unhate Campaign that featured prominent personalities, including Barack Obama and Hugo Chavez, what’s the problem in real life? Let those in love kiss and you don’t tell!

The cast of Ishq Brandy, in Ludhiana on a promotional drive, promise an out-an-out entertainer…
Gurvinder Singh

The cast of upcoming Punjabi movie Ishq Brandy, in Ludhiana on Wednesday to promote the flick, was a happy bunch, quite satisfied with their efforts. The movie revolves around the life of three friends played by Roshan Prince, Binu Dhillon and Alfaaz. The plot moves from Punjab to Mauritius, where they go to attend a function. Wamiqa Gabbi and Japji Khaira play the female leads.

The confusion starts when the friends drink at night, do nasty things and forget about it altogether when they wake up. "The potion of romantic 'Ishq' and comic 'Brandy' will surely tickle the funny bone of the audience. I have also penned the lyrics of the songs in the movie; it is my second movie after Jatt Airways. The first one was a good learning experience as well," says Alfaaz.

"The movie is a situational comedy and is sure to make you laugh," adds Roshan Prince. Japji plays the role of a possessive fiancee opposite Alfaaz. "It was great fun shooting for the movie," she says.

Yuvraj dating Neha?

Indian cricketers are very much in news these days for their blooming romance. If cricketer Virat Kohli is busy romancing Anushka Sharma in New Zealand then Yuvraj Singh has also found a Bollywood babe for himself.

He was recently caught arriving in the same car as actress Neha Dhupia for Sophie Choudhry's birthday party. The party saw Bollywood stars like Preity Zinta, Shamita Shetty, Tusshar Kapoor and few more but it was Neha and Yuvraj who caught everyone's attention.

Yuvraj and Neha were spotted together several times in the past too. The couple hit the gossip column when they were caught leaving for LWF's after party together in one car.

Yuvraj dated Kim Sharma in the past and he also allegedly had an affair with Deepika Padukone. It might be too early to say anything, but something is definitely brewing between Yuvraj and Neha.

Heading for Manali

Hrithik Roshan has wrapped up a shooting schedule for Bang Bang in Shimla and will now head to Manali where he will shoot till the month's end.

What’s cooking?

Daisy Shah has been hanging out with Salman Khan as he shoots for Kick. She even changed into his baggy clothes after emerging from his vanity van. Their bonding has raised eyebrows in the industry.

Dare to dream

Fox Star Studios and celebrated filmmaker Amole Gupte's pulsating Formula 1 journey of emotions and entertainment Hawaa Hawaai will have a world-wide release on May 9, making it a perfect summer holiday film for the families-and the first sports film of this kind.

Celebrating the idea of chasing a dream with a passion, Hawaa Hawaai revolves around the belief that every achievement is the result of a dream.

Featuring critically acclaimed and one of the most promising young stars, Saqib Saleem, and national award winner, child actor- Partho Gupte in lead roles, Hawaa Hawaai will celebrate their journey as they set out to live their dream through exciting twists and turns against the backdrop of sports.

While speaking about Hawaa Hawaai, Amole says, "Hawaa Hawaai celebrates the triumph of the human spirit against all odds and salutes those dreamers who carry the will to turn their dreams into a reality. He is by far one of the finest story tellers and we are glad to take our partnership that started with Stanley Ka Dabba, to the next level."

Words of wisdom

Tisca Chopra's book on acting has just been released and she has a couple of movies lined up too. The acclaimed and popular television and film actress talks about what she does best.

A success story

Though 24 is over I am still getting compliments for the show and my role. Frankly, I never expected it to be so huge. When Anil (Kapoor) offered me this show and said that it would be beyond my expectations, I didn't take him too seriously. Even when it began, the initial response was lukewarm. But it picked up phenomenally and I remembered Anil's words then. It's a matter of pride for me that people who saw the original series were thrilled with the Indian version too. If there's going to be a new season of the show and they want me to feature in it. I am game for it, of course (smiles).

More of television

I am all for another show if it is launched on a big scale and has the gumption and self-belief that 24 had. But I am not in favour of a reality show unless I am hosting one. I am definitely not cut out for a show like Bigg Boss because I am too private a person. Also I talk straight without any manipulations, so there would a huge ruckus. Apart from that, I have this crooked sense of humour which can create a furore (laughs loudly).

A different genre

I have done some interesting and meaningful films like Firaaq, Taare Zameen Par and OMG. Having said that, I am dying to do a comedy film. In fact, I was offered one recently but unfortunately I couldn't take it up because to date issues. Thankfully, with the success of 24, people are approaching me with different kinds of roles.

Many languages

I am doing the Hindi and Tamil versions of Mahesh Manjrekar's 2012 hit Marathi film Kaksparsh. It's a period drama and I am starring alongside Arvind Swamy. He's a delight to work with and is looking better than ever.

All booked

My book is available online and will be out in the market in a couple of days. It's a book for those who come into the film industry to make it big. People who have no connections, godfather or anyone to guide them can make several mistakes. It's a guide for them on managing themselves. There are interesting accounts and anecdotes from industry people like Anil Kapoor, Imtiaz Ali, Shabana Azmi and Anurag Kashyap to name a few. When I told my friends from the industry about the concept of the book, they were very supportive.

Read her lips!

Ever since her appearance in Karan Johar's chat show, 'Koffee With Karan', actress Anushka Sharma has been subjected to a lot of criticism for her changed looks. Grapevine even suggests that Anushka Sharma underwent a plastic surgery. However, Anushka took to Twitter to clarify the rumours and denied going under the knife.

Here’s what she posted on Twitter.

"Hellooooo everyone !! Today I am here to talk about my lips !! Yes ! There ! I said it .. My lips !

"As a person I find it difficult to talk about my personal life and hence have always maintained a low profile choosing to interact with you all on twitter with my random -mostly illogical thoughts seeming like the only thing I feel ok about..that's just who I am...

"But in today's time where PR stories and feeding people with information constantly or making appearances is a fad somewhere people like me get lost in translation or in this case translations!

"Lately there has been a LOT of talk about me in this particular episode of Koffee with Karan. Mainly regarding my lips. I am here to just convey what I have to say regarding the same. I am talking about it only because this story has taken a scary direction and things have been 'blown out of proportion' (pun intended ;) ) ...

"For a short while now I have been using a temporary lip enhancing tool and that along with make up techniques ( I have learnt over the years) is the reason why there might be a change in the appearance of my lips.

Having stated this fact let me very vehemently assure everyone that I have by no means gone 'under the knife ' or done any kind of 'plastic surgery' or undergone any intrusive procedure.

"This was my decision and was done for the sake of my look in my upcoming film Bombay Velvet, a period drama where I play a jazz singer in the 1960's - 70's. And it was taken from the referencing of that time.

"The drastic change in my appearance on KWK is due to lot of factors put together and not just my lips. Everyone goes through good and bad days. Did I think I looked good on the KWK episode? NO. I do feel I could have done things differently.

Vidya does it again

Vidya Balan wore a weird Indian maxi dress for a brunch for Shaadi Ke Side Effects. She looked old and aunty-like. She is also gathering flak for her topless, risque pose for Dabboo Ratnani's calendar.

A sweet tune

Playback singer Rekha Bharadwaj, who has mesmerised millions around the world with her powerful renditions in movies, is all set to lend her voice to Life OK’s popular show Gustakh Dil. Rekha, a noted playback singer, is known and celebrated for her unique style of singing.

The song Sakhi Saiyaan, which Rekha will be singing, has been composed by famous rock band Agnee. It is a poignant composition that brings alive the story of Laajo and Nikhil. The music, the lyrics and the rendition combined promise a one-of-its-kind musical journey on television.

A visibly excited Rekha said, “I loved the song when I heard it for the first time. It is a very soothing, soulful melody that will appeal to a lot of women. Mohan (of Agnee) has done a brilliant job at composing this track. It has been an amazing experience. I sincerely hope that people will enjoy listening to this song as much as I have enjoyed recording it." The lyrics of Sakhi Saiyaan have been written by Rupesh Kashyap and rely heavily on references from Eastern UP dialects, which depict pain and separation. The Virah and Vedna raas makes this classical yet contemporary composition a creation that will connect with people well.

Meanwhile, the current track of Gustakh Dil has Laajo leaving Nikhil for his well-being and returning to Sonbarsa, her native home. While she is there, an epidemic breaks out and along with hundreds even Laajo becomes its victim. As Laajo lies on her deathbed, will she be able to see another day? Will Nikhil reach in time for Laajo? Watch out. — HRM

Comic relief

VJ Mantra, who is hosting India’s Got Talent, will soon be off the show. Bigg Boss contestant VJ Andy will replace him in the next few episodes. Andy is thrilled to have bagged the show, as he is looking at presenting his kind of comedy on the show.

Living the past

Maine Pyar Kiya actress Bhagyashree might soon be seen in a television show based on hit international show titled Missing. The ironic aspect is that her co-star in the show is called Prem. Her debut film’s hero, played by Salman Khan, was also called Prem.

Gunjan to play lead

After Vivian Dsena’s exit, the makers opted for a leap in Madhubala. Everyone was waiting with bated breath to see who will play the lead role now. After apparently auditioning Karanvir Bohra, Shaleen Malhotra, among others, the makers locked Gunjan Utrejan. He was earlier seen in Aamna Samna.

Nothing political

After reports that Gaurav Chopraa was interested in politics and apparently had joined a national party, he denied the same. He had gone to Delhi for the music release of a film at a certain party’s office, which led to the rumours.

Proud dad

Sharad Kelkar became a dad on Friday. His wife Keerti gave birth to a baby girl last week. The mother and daughter are fine and the father can’t stop grinning. He tweeted, “Her eyes are crinkly, nose, cheeks so tiny & she's still just about trying to recognize me... #blessed to be a #father to her!”

Crime file

She played a negative role in Life OK's Amrit Manthan and now Adaa Khan has signed up a new show. It is a historical crime series, which will air on Zee TV and is perhaps India’s first. The episodic show will highlight real-life crime stories in history.
