Even as separate probes by the Vigilance Bureau of the Punjab Police and the Vigilance wing of the Local Bodies Department, Punjab, into illegal change of land use and violation of the standard design in shop-cum-flats
(SCFs) in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar schemes of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) are already being conducted, similar violations in two other schemes -- Maharishi Valmiki Nagar and Rajguru Nagar -- have come to light. |

Core issues to come up at meeting today
Ludhiana, February 5
The civic body is all set to take up several core issues at a meeting of the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) here tomorrow. The issues which will be cleared by the committee members, including the Mayor, MC Commissioner, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor, at the meeting will be placed before the general house, which is likely to meet on February 21.

Clerk caught taking bribe
Ludhiana, February 5
The Vigilance Bureau today caught a clerk of Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited while taking a bribe of Rs 4,000 at his office in Sarabha Nagar here.
The clerk has been identified as Rakesh Kumar Chopra. He was arrested on a complaint of Jasbir Singh of Dhandra Road in
Dugri.
Fair deal: Special buses launched for the fair sex
Ludhiana, February 5
There is good news for women. The Ludhiana City Bus Service today started two buses, including an AC bus, exclusively for them. The 35-seater buses hit the city roads today, giving respite to women.

An elderly woman was electrocuted here today. The deceased has been identified as Rajo Devi (70), a resident of the Ropar Road area.

Man dies in mishap

A man was crushed to death by a speeding unidentified truck on the national highway.
The victim was riding TVS scooter, when a speeding truck ran over him. The deceased has been identified as Hardeep Singh, a resident of Rahaun village.
