Runaway success
The tides favoured Tom Hanks marooned on an island taking him back to where he belonged in the film Cast Away."This is how I see my missing from the scene and the entire coming back now," laughs Amit Sadh, the actor who got noticed 'once again' after the success of the film Kai Po Che. Now that things have taken a 360 turn, almost twice for this doe eyed actor, Amit is only thankful to those glitches on his way. "Nothing teaches you better than failure, I have learnt so much about myself and about things around," he adds.
He wraps his shoot for Running Shaadi.com in Patiala and is off to Goa to chill out a bit. Running Shaadi.com is produced by director Shoojit Sircar and stars Amit Sadh and Taapsee Pannu of Chashme Baddoor fame in the lead. The film is directed by first-timer Amit Roy, who has previously worked as a cinematographer in films like Sarkar and Dum Maaro Dum. Running Shaadi.com, revolves around a website which helps people to elope and get married. When Ram Bharose (Amit) and Nimmi (Taapsee) fall in love while on the run, one hilarious situation leads to another and they have to handle their own running shaadi. So, we get the otherwise intense looking actor do comedy? "Oh yes, but I don't make any special effort to do that, most of the humour comes from the situations in the film. The whole team is excited about Running Shaadi.com," he adds. Filmmakers approach him with new and different roles, a new phase that Amit is beginning to enjoy. "I can't lose my feet, I cannot be pompous. What is the whole idea of going through this journey if I have to lose my head so fast. The good thing that has happened is that I don't have to worry about paying my rent," he laughs. A fitness freak, Amit promotes cycling as the way to good health. "I want to encourage people to leave their four wheelers and try cycling to places where they can. I am all for cycling and good health," says he. “I believe in good health it is important for a healthy mind .” No wonder the film Running Shaddi.com makes a lot of sense now! jasmine@tribunemail.com

Woven with creativity
May be ten years from now, a biopic can be made on his life- on how there was no electricity in his village till he was seven-years-old, how he has seen life in two extremely contrasting settings, in a village of Bhagalpur district in Bihar that deprived him of the basic necessaries of life and Delhi that stands for all things glamourous. Samant Chauhan, a fashion designer, who is diligently working for the revival of Bhagalpur silk and weavers of the region, has a life much like a roller coaster ride. And he loves its every day, each moment. So, while he makes a project for the London fashion week, he also sponsors his family to renovate the house back in his village. “My ultimate aim is to set up a workshop in Bhagalpur after winding up everything in Delhi.”
What changed the course of his life was getting through NIFT. “I was a very shy student in the beginning but as I started working, I realised my potential and that brought about the change in my personality.” He works extensively with the Bhagalpur silk, especially the kataya yarn, its name derived from the worm that cuts the cocoon and moves out of it. “It’s the actual organic way of creating clothes, where you don’t even kill the worm inside the cocoon.” He doesn’t deny that machines can’t be replaced by weavers on a larger scale but for designers in particular, it works. “Because we demand limited fabric. Like for a collection, we need only 20 meters of hand-woven fabric and an entire collection comes out of it.” In Chandigarh for the Signature Punjab Fashion Tour, he will showcase sarees from his Rajputana collection, done with animal print and motifs of lion skulls. The range begins from Rs 20,000.

Learn to let go…
Renee singh With the coming of New Year, we mostly focus on all the new things we are setting ourselves up for. But there is more to care for. In our lives our attitude, actions and many lifestyle traits bring undue stress. We have to learn to identify these negative traits that are pulling our lives down. Identify traits All of us to some extent are carrying negative thoughts and negative habits. Over a period of time we become so comfortably settled in our negativity that we find it very hard to let go of these patterns. But once we have identified these habits things become much easier. We can actually contemplate dropping off a few of the negative traits we are living with simply by letting go of them. Releasing grudges Letting go of negative perspectives may seem difficult initially but once we loosen our grip on them, letting go gets easier. Even if it seems difficult at first letting go becomes easy slowly. You may congratulate yourself each time you are successful. Progress will be worthwhile ultimately. If you are holding on to anger from the past, ask yourself - are you getting any benefit from this? You would realise it's of no use, let go of it. Express yourself In the process of trying to forgive, express yourself. You don't need to tell them that you have forgiven them. Just free yourself from those negative feelings. Gratitude journal Research shows that journaling about benefits you have got from negative situations helps you to move on more easily. Start a gratitude journal. Cultivate empathy Empathy is associated with forgiveness. So instead of seeing people as enemies, try to understand what they are dealing with. Look at life from their perspective. Try to realise that their motive was not to cause you pain, that just happened. A lot of times when we are under stress we engage in a lot of activities that help us feel better momentarily, but actually create more stress in the long run. A lot of times we act without thinking and this creates conflict in our relationships, undermines productivity at work and puts us into a cycle of stress. Normally these habits go unnoticed and create a vicious cycle of stress. We need to find adequate activities and effective strategies to break the bad habits. Emotional eating When we are under stress we are prone to eating even when we are not hungry.
Retail therapy Shopping brings in a quick and powerful emotional lift, specially for women. It has its benefits. Buying small items bring happiness and motivate us towards healthy changes. We just need to keep shopping under control. Social support This is when we look for social support. It is one of the most helpful stress relievers, but sometimes we get stuck with it. Problem is when we talk about our problems too often, too intensely or too singularly, we get to a point where we focus only on the negative. Sometimes we create a repeating loop of negative thoughts. It damages our physical and mental states. Can become a negative spiral and increase our stress levels. Get help Sometimes it is difficult to let go of the past, specially if offending acts were ongoing or traumatic. If you find it difficult to forgive you need to work with a therapist who can help you work with your feelings at a deeper level and personally support you through the process. When you are hurt forgiving can be very difficult, but it is the best thing you can do for your own emotional health. (Singh is a Chandigarh based psychotherapist) |

Add fibre in your food
Renupreet Kaur A high-fibre diet tends to make a meal feel larger and helps to stay fuller for a greater amount of time. High-fibre diets also tend to have fewer calories for the same volume of other food. Fibre is also known as roughage. It is the indigestible part of plant foods that pushes through our digestive system, absorbing water along the way and easing bowel movements. Fibre is made up of non-starch polysaccharides, such as cellulose, dextrins, inulin, lignin, chitins, pectins, beta-glucans, waxes and oligosaccharides. Why is it good?
Types of dietary fibre foods Dietary fibre foods are generally divided into soluble and insoluble fibre. Soluble fibre gets easily dissolved in water. Good sources of soluble fibre include fruits, vegetables, oat bran, barley, seed husks, flaxseed, dried beans, lentils, peas, soy milk and soy products. Insoluble fibre does not dissolve in water. As it goes through the digestive tract it does not change its form. Good sources of insoluble fibre include wheat bran, corn bran, rice bran, the skins of fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds, dried beans and wholegrain foods. Both types of fibre are beneficial to the body and most plant foods contain a mixture of both types. How much do we need? Based on various researches, the recommended daily amount of fibre for women is 25 grams and for men, it is 38 grams. However, after the age of 50, it is recommended that women drop their intake to 21 grams and men to 30 grams. Most studies show that your ratio of fibre should be three parts insoluble to every one part soluble. Keep in mind

A sheer pleasure to watch
Ashima Batish She is the latest muse of Indian fashion designers. Deepika Padukone's style appears effortless, original, chic and classy at the same time. Look back in 2013 and you realise that it is not just her box office exploits, also her perfect style statement that made her the glamour industry's darling. Continuing with her run of stylish turnouts at the Red Carpet, Deepika wore a golden sheer-in-places gown by Guarav Gupta at the Filmfare Awards held recently and how she glittered! Not only she won the award of best actress for her role in Goliyon Ki Rasleela, Ramleela, also was the best dressed at the event. Hair to stay: Deepika knows how to create a balance. If her gown was all bling, her hairdo was simple. The side-swept loose curls were plain enough to keep the focus on her bold dress. Dress material: When it is Gaurav Gupta, you know the creation will be an aesthetic mix of experimentation and elegance. (By the way, the designer is a hit on the Red Carpet, as Aditi Rao Hydari also sported a gown by him at the same event.) Deepika picked the golden sheer dress that went opaque at the right places. The hide- and-seek gown hid as much as it revealed and looked aesthetically beautiful. The silhouette of the gown was straight, without any additional drama, which in fact wasn't required also, as there was already enough bling. How it ended at the seams, exposing her golden heels, looked the work of the master-craftsmen that Gaurav Gupta is. Make-up fact: Her bright red lipstick stood out, as it was intended to be. Rest of it didn't look over-the-top. The contouring was so proper that her face cut become prominent, adding to her beauty. Accessory point: With a golden dress, you actually don't need any accessory to accentuate your style and Deepika knew it. She only wore twp yellow sapphire rings and a sleep yellow bracelet and that worked well with her outfit. Her stilettos in golden, which were so visible from underneath the golden gown, couldn't have been replaced by anything better. She didn't wear earrings. And that made Deepika's face grab all the attention. |

Realistic touch
Gunday was one of last films that Yash Chopra got associated with. He green lit the project and also gave a lot of his inputs for the film.
Yash Chopra was very keen for Ali to shoot the film at an actual coal mine. Yash Chopra even shared options of where all can the shoot be held. When the film went into production YRF was very enthusiastic to weave this through. The coal mine shots are done in an open cast mine in Raniganj which is three hours away from Kolkata. Never before has there been a film shot in this area. Not even, a Bengali or small scale film. The permission bit was not a problem. The authorities were very accommodating. Even when the team went for a recce the authorities gave them access during lunch breaks for them to scan and plan things. Ali also interacted with miners to closely understand their lifestyle, their work conditions etc. He also photographed them to ensure he gets the nuances of the look right. When they went back to shoot, there was an entire area which was allotted to them. Their shooting schedule was two week long and they had no interference from the miners what so ever. The only little hiccup was that while they shot every day, a huge sea of people gathered there out of curiosity. They used to sit there all day long keenly observing the shoot. Ali Abbas Zafar says, "I am glad that Yashji told me to shoot at an actual coalmine. The film and our experiences of making it would not have been the same without it.

The show must go on…
Actor Upen Patel who is currently shooting down South for the mega budget film Ai directed by Shankar seems to have been under the weather with malaria. We hear that the Namastey London actor continued to shoot some of the toughest stunt and action sequences without break despite the director asking him to recover.
Our source informs us, "There has been a huge ten day climax sequence being shot which has Upen hanging from a moving train. The international fight director from Iron Man 3 has been roped in to direct this sequence which is unlike any scene seen on Indian celluloid."

Fit as a fiddle
Famous model and television actor, Nitin Goswami, who is currently playing a pivotal role in the show, Qubool Hain that is telecast on Zee TV, shares his fitness mantra… How do you stay fit? I believe in exercising regularly and having a balanced diet. According to me, it is very important to indulge in some sort of physical activity everyday for 30 minutes at least, it could either be brisk walking, jogging or doing yoga. What’s an ideal workout for you? I think jogging is a perfect and most convenient workout for me. What’s your diet routine? I eat everything and I try not to deprive my body of anything. My breakfast is the heaviest meal of the day, which includes muesli and oats, while the lunch comprises salad, roti, sabzi and dal. In dinner, however, I prefer salads, fruits, and a glass of milk. Additionally, I prefer eating two or three small meals daily, which usually includes a mix of healthy sandwiches, fruits, oats and nuts. Having said this, I believe in eating everything, but I feel that it is equally important to work out regularly. Also, I try and avoid developing a sedentary lifestyle. Is there anything you avoid eating? No, nothing in particular. However, being an actor, I need to be conscious about my food, for which I try to avoid oily food and prefer to eat something, which is healthy yet tasty. How do you de-stress yourself? I love music and it is a great stress buster for me. Once in a while, I also visit the spa for a relaxing full body massage. When do you feel the happiest? I am at my happiest when I am given the opportunity to do quality work, which is of my choice. What are your top tips for a happy life? I believe fitness is one for the first steps to leading a happy life. I prefer to remain fit because I believe that is what makes you confident, smart and happy. My idea of happiness is very simple—Be healthy and fit, most importantly comfortable in your own skin. Icecream or chocolate? I prefer Gulab jamun. Who are the fittest actors and actresses according to you? I believe Vidyut Jamwal and Deepika Padukone are super fit. What is the best advice you have received? The best piece of advice that I have ever been given is that one needs to live and let live. Everyone is different and one needs to learn to appreciate and respect variety in life. What’s in your workout-bag right now? My Nike shoes, my towel and my mp3 headphones. What is your current workout play list? Currently, I am completely hooked to Sunny Sunny from Yaariyan by Yo Yo Honey Singh, Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2 and Ram Chahe Leela from Goliyon Ki Rasleela-Ram Leela. — HRM |
