Bibipur village scores in gender ratio
Bibipur (Jind), December 29 Mostly uneducated, residents of this village, led by an educated sarpanch, have taken many initiatives to prevent the killing of infant girls. They have also decided to organise a special function in the village on January 1 to honour more than 100 families of the village, who have given birth to girls. On June 6, 2010, villagers, led by their young sarpanch Sunil Jaglan, who has done Masters in Computers, had decided to launch a fight against female foeticide. The village has 14 wards and the sarpanch has secretively appointed two-three women in each ward. The secret activists keep an eye on all expectant mothers of their respective wards and whenever they get to know about any suspicious activity, which may have the possibility of leading to female foeticide, they inform the sarpanch. “This year, our village has seen the birth of 51 females against 44 males. We have made this possible with sincere dedication and any village can do it if they take it seriously,” said Jaglan. “Women often indulge in female foeticide under the pressure of male members of their families. After our campaign, many women have spoken against their families and we have saved many girls because of this,” said Ritu, a social activist from the village. “We have been getting the support of village women and request the government to take up the issue of female foeticide seriously,” said Seeta Devi, a panchayat member. Apart from surveillance over expectant mothers, the villagers have been organising gram sabhas and seminars in village to spread awareness about girl child. On June 18, 2012, the village organised India’s first women-oriented gram sabha. On July 14, 2012, a mahapanchayt of five states was organised in the village. Later in the year, villagers decided at a gram sabha that flag hoisting on August 15 and January 26 would be done by mothers who have has decided to keep a single girl child. Model village

Jhajjar villagers feel cheated
Silani Kesho (Jhajjar), December 29 The school management is charging a hefty fee, to the tune of Rs 3 lakh a year from boarding students and Rs 1 lakh a year from day scholars, which is unaffordable for most villagers. Residents of this village are now feeling cheated owing to the lack of interest being showed by the society in grooming village wards and providing them education free of cost. “The school has reserved 5 per cent seats for local students from economically weaker sections, but the provision is not beneficial as the school waives tution fee and all other charges like transportation, books, stationery and mid-day meals have to be borne by us,” said Satpal Chahar, a village resident. The land was given on lease for 33 years in 2008. The village panchayat had fixed the amount at Rs 3 lakh per acre, but the state government later reduced it to Rs 51,000 per acre, stating that the facility would benefit the locals a lot. The society landed in a controversy when it set up a high-end international school on the land several months before the much-publicised sports facility. Ramesh, another villager, said due to exorbitant fee, only a few villagers were able to send their wards to Sehwag International School. The society management was concentrating on earning money from the school instead of polishing sports talent of locals, he added. Balraj Chahar, a retired teacher, lamented that villagers were feeling cheated as Virender Sehwag had failed to live up to expectations of the locals who looked forward to their children getting trained by the player. On the other hand, the society management said the land was allocated by the state both for the school and the sports academy and adequate concession in fee was being given to children of Silani Kesho village. Praveen Gehlaut, head of sports at Sehwag International School, said 30 students of other schools were learning cricket skills at Sehwag Cricket Academy, but only one was from Silani Kesho village. “The academy is run on the last three days of the week while school students are allowed to play cricket throughout the week,” he said, adding that students were being charged Rs 2,000 per month. |

Villages merged with Karnal MC lack amenities
Karnal, December 29 The residents of these villages are a harried lot as there is no one to listen to their grievances and even basic civic amenities are not available in the villages. These villages have become a ‘no man’s land’ as neither the civic amenities, availed by residents of the city, are available to them nor they can assert their rights as villagers as their panchayats no longer exist. The villages were included in the MC but the elections to the MC were held after more than three years in June this year. The village of Uchana, which was a model for its pace of steady development, is in a state of utter neglect and villagers rue that even the village lake has not been cleaned for the past many years. “Earlier, the village used to get grants and the panchayat took care of all needs, but now, everything had been left to God,” said Rajbir, a resident of the village. “During INLD government headed by Om Prakash Chautala, Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) had carved the first rural sector for the rural population merged with the municipal corporation, but the villagers have encroached upon the land, sown crops, dug roads, damaged water connections and illegal construction galore on the village common land,” said former Uchana sarpanch Satpal Rana. He said the public toilets constructed during his tenure were non-functional and villagers had even removed the walls of a toilet. Due to acute shortage of sweepers in the municipal corporation, the sanitation has been badly hit while the roads are full of potholes and no attention is being paid to maintenance as the MC can only construct roads falling under the “Lal Dora”, while other roads that need attention are being neglected. Anita, a resident of Bhagpati village, said, “There is no drainage system and residents have to flush out water from toilets themselves as the MC authorities maintain that they have no record of the BPL card holders of these villages and the villagers are unable to avail the benefits of government policies, programmes and schemes.” The story is no different in other villages that included Sayeedpura, Dholgarh, Uchani, Jhanghari, Baldi, Mangalpur, Budhakhera, Phusgarh, Katabagh, Kambopura, Daha, Madanpur and Sirsigamri as all the villages are facing one problem or the other. However, newly elected Mayor Renu Bala Gupta said the elected body was installed only four months ago and councillors from all wards had been asked to submit their reports along with demands and works to be executed. |

Villagers come out in support of sarpanch, start indefinite fast
Parveen Arora Tribune News Service
Karnal, December 29 The members of the association started an infinite strike at the BDPO office, Gharonda. Ajay Kumar, president of the sarpanch association, announced that they would send their resignation to the Chief Minister on Monday. He said the sarpanch was arrested when he was called to the police station for questioning. The association demanded an immediate release of sarpanch Rajinder, claiming he was innocent. Earlier, irate residents of Chora and adjoining villages blocked the mall road and gheraoed the SP’s residence. Ritu, the wife of the sarpanch, alleged that her husband was falsely implicated in the case and demanded a fair inquiry in the case. She alleged that the police did not probe the case properly and arrested the sarpanch under pressure. SP Shashank Anand and other officers assured the protesters of fare inquiry. A delegation of villagers also met Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in this connection. Family members of Shivam, a youth from Chora village who committed suicide on December 17, had accused sarpanch and five other persons of the crime. |

Power tariff lowest compared to neighbouring states: Discoms
Hisar, December 29 A Nigam spokesperson said here today that the tariff was fixed by the HERC and all the charges taken from the consumers were audited by the Auditor General and were monitored by the HERC. “Discoms cannot charge anything beyond the tariff order of the HERC. So, it is wrong to say that the Discoms are charging inflated bills”, the Nigam spokesperson DP Dhull added. He said there was a consumer grievance redressal mechanism available through the Consumer Grievance Redressal Forum and Ombudsman if any consumer wanted to challenge the tariff and charges. He further clarified that the HERC had hiked the tariff by 13 % vide its orders on March 31, 2013. “Thereafter, there has been no increase in the tariff. Haryana has the lowest tariff for domestic consumers at a minimum of Rs 2.98 per unit and maximum Rs 5.98 as compared to Rs 4.67 per unit and Rs 6.42 per unit in Punjab, Rs 4.10 and Rs 6.16 per unit in Delhi, Rs 4.38 and Rs 5.88 per unit in Uttar Pradesh and minimum Rs 5.06 and maximum Rs 7.00 per unit in Rajasthan”. The Discoms have paid about Rs 600 crore on account of fuel surcharge adjustment to the generator, the Haryana Power Generation Corporation Ltd, during the last nine months on account of increase in cost of fuel and transportation of coal. The FSA was to be recovered from the consumers. Besides the tariff hike of 13 per cent in March, 2013, the Haryana Discoms have levied FSA at the rate of only 34 paise per unit in July. There has been no other increase in charges from the consumers on account of electricity consumption. Students leader campaigns against
huge power bills
Sirsa: After Rania MLA Krishan Kamboj, now Roshan Suchan, a student leader, has intensified his drive against inflated electricity bills. Suchan today went door-to-door in the Chatargarh Patti and Prem Nagar areas of Sirsa town, urging people not to pay their electricity bills. He also connected the power lines of a house directly to the power supply of the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) after bypassing the meter. Suchan, who is the state convener of the All-India Students Federation (AISF), has been campaigning against inflated power bills in some villages of Sirsa for the past some days. Accompanied by AISF activists Manoj Pachrewal, Harbans Bhola, Happy Bakshi and some others, Suchan today alleged that the power charges had been raised to Rs 8 per unit, which an ordinary man was unable to pay. |
MLA’s son files review petition
Fatehabad, December 29 The commission has invited objections and comments on Gaurav’s petition from the public till December 30. The commission, in its orders dated March 30, 2013, had abolished the running slab system of domestic tariff prevalent since 2000 and introduced a new tariff structure. Earlier, the tariff slabs were 0 to 40 units, 41 to 250 units, 251 to 400 units and above 400 units with minimum charges of Rs 80 per KW load upto 2KW and Rs 50 per KW a month above 2KW. However, the new slabs for the domestic consumers that came into force on April 1, HERC allowed billing under three different slab categories depending on the total consumption of the consumers. Under the first category, the tariff slabs for small consumers are 0-40 units per month and 41-100 units per month. However, where the power consumption of a consumer is above 100 units but less than 800 units, the slabs are 0-250 units, 251-500 units and 501-800 units, thereby depriving such users the benefits of lower tariff applicable on the first 100 units. Similarly, for consumers with a consumption of more than 800 units, there are no slabs and they have to pay the maximum tariff for all units. |
After Delhi, AAP now focuses on Haryana
Yamunanagar, December 29 “Corruption and farmers' problems will be among the main poll issues in Haryana,” said Yogendra Yadav, adding that Haryana was knee-deep in corruption. Yadav named all political parties, including the Congress, the BJP and the INLD, and attacked their supremos for misleading people and using their votes for their personal interests. Attacking on Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, he said all government jobs were limited to residents of Rohtak. Discrimination was also being committed in development works with other parts of the state. He said that their target was to break the vicious circle of caste-based politics in the state. The Congress and the BJP were victims of politics of family dynasty. The Congress was being ruled by the Gandhi family and the BJP by a handful senior leaders. Following the tradition of family dynasty, BJP leaders in Delhi gave tickets to their sons, daughters and close relatives but they were rejected by the public. “The AAP has proved that elections can be fought without black money. In the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the party will be a suitable option for those who are fed up with a system neck-deep in corruption. People of the country want a change and there wish will be fulfilled by the AAP,” said Yogendra Yadav. AAP to campaign
on Delhi pattern
Ambala: AAP leader Yogender Yadav said the party had decided to launch a campaign in Haryana on the Delhi Pattern to end corruption. Addressing a rally in Ambala City, he said corruption was more in Haryana than in Delhi. The list of HCS selections had brought out this fact, the AAP leader said. He said the party would contest all 90 assembly seats. The party would also contest the Lok Sabha seats. Yadav said the process of acquiring land with the consent of farmers was still on though the Centre had already restrained the state governments through a Bill in this connection. Sirsa meetings
Sirsa: The AAP has decided to hold assembly constituency-wise meetings in Sirsa from December 31 to January 5. State executive member Prahlad Singh Bharukhera said the party would hold conventions at Rania, Ellenabad, Kalanwali, Sirsa and Dabwali on December 31, January 1, January 3 , January 4 and January 5, respectively. |
Chautalas’ conviction biggest event of year
Sushil Manav Tribune News Service
Sirsa, December 29 In fact, 2013 had barely started when the Rohini court delivered its judgement in the JBT teacher scam, convicting the father-son duo and several others on January 16. Later, the court sentenced both to imprisonment for 10 years each while pronouncing its judgement on quantum of punishment on January 22. Since Chautalas hail from Sirsa district, their sentencing created a void in Sirsa that remained discernible throughout the year. In January, a Supreme Court decision provided much-needed balm for victims of the Dabwali fire tragedy. The Supreme Court dismissed DAV School’s appeal against the Punjab and Haryana High Court order and directed it to pay its part of the compensation to fire victims. In a devastating fire during the DAV School function on December 23, 1995, 442 people, mostly women and children, died and 150 others sustained burn injuries. By the end of January, a four-year-old was gang-raped and thrown in a sewer water pond at Dabwali. Later, a court in Sirsa convicted two youths to be hanged till death for the ghastly crime. In February, a Dabwali-based television channel reporter committed suicide in Bathinda, accusing a DSP, an SHO and another Sirsa police official of harassing him. The cops were booked by the Bathinda police. When the Health Department started its programme to administer iron and folic acid tablets to schoolchildren, hundreds were taken ill, reportedly due to the ill-effects of the tablets. The health authorities had a lot of explaining to do as children and their parents in over a hundred schools boycotted the scheme. On June 6, former President APJ Abdul Kalam visited Sirsa to deliver the convocation address at theJCD College of Engineering and interacted with students at the CMK National Postgraduate College here. In July, the authorities decided to set up 50 rural e-libraries in Sirsa villages. Chaudhary Devi Lal University got a new Vice-Chancellor when Dr Radhe Sham Sharma, Principal of Pandit Chiranji Lal Sharma Government Postgraduate College, Karnal, joined in August. Sirsa MLA Gopal Kanda, lodged in the Tihar jail in connection with the suicide of former staffer Geetika Sharma, came out on bail for a month to attend the Vidhan Sabha session. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda addressed a massive rally at Kharia in the Rania Assembly constituency organised by former minister Ranjit Singh and another rally at Chopta in the Ellenabad Assembly constituency organised by Bharat Singh Beniwal. The Haryana Janhit Congress suffered a setback in Sirsa when senior party leader Veer Bhan quit the party along with his supporters in November. |
Cheer amid caste-based developments
Deepender Deswal Tribune News Service
Hisar, December 29 As Hisar is being touted as a counter-magnet town, the proposed projects which will provide efficient and faster transport facilities have the potential to reshape the district as an important centre of commerce and industry in the years to come. While work on the four-laning of the 99-kilometre stretch of National Highway 10 from Rohtak to Hisar has begun, the proposed 68.8-kilometre railway line between Hansi and Rohtak is likely to take some more time to take off as it requires land acquisition. Union Transport, Roads and Highways Minister Oscar Fernandes and Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda laid the foundation stones of both projects worth Rs 1,370 crore at the rail road rally at Hansi on July 28. The Centre’s nod for setting up a civilian airport at Hisar revived hopes of connecting the town with major metro cities of the country, which will be a boost for the trade and commerce sector, besides opening up opportunities of industrial development in the region. The decision of a local court in May to sentence four convicts to life imprisonment and acquit six others in the gang rape of a Dalit of Dabra village in September 2012 failed the do justice to the victim, who continued her struggle for getting all accused punished. After sustained follow-up, the state government finally challenged the verdict in the Punjab and Haryana High court last month. The caste row of Bhagana village was resolved amicably after the ‘caste wall’ was demolished and the NCSC expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by the administration to bury differences between upper castes and Dalit, except a few Dalit residents still continuing their dharna at the Mini-Secretariat here. Repercussions of the Mirchpur violence in April 2010, in which an aged Dalit man and his physically challenged teenaged daughter were burnt alive by an upper caste mob, continued to be felt as Dalit victims refused to return on the plea that they were unsafe in the village and kept demanding rehabilitation elsewhere. The matter is sub-judice in the Supreme Court, which sent its team to meet the violence-affected Dalits in an attempt to gauge the gravity of the situation. The controversial plan by a local trust to construct a grand sati temple in the town by replacing a small temple was halted by the administration after The Tribune raised the issue and social activists protests the move, terming it the glorification of the horrific sati practice. Two BJP ministers from Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh laid the foundation stone of the proposed temple on September 5. Hisar MP Kuldeep Bishnoi’s yatra from Adampur and rally in Hisar indicated that he was the most important factor in the political scenario of Hisar. |
Jhajjar to get a nuclear science university
Jassaur Kheri (Jhajjar), December 29 The centre would work like a nuclear science university to be engaged in research by Indian and visiting international scientists, training of Indian and worldwide participants, global seminars, workshops, group discussions by experts on topical issues along with development and conduct of courses in association with interested countries and the International Atomic Energy Agency. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who had recently announced the mega project during his America tour, will lay its foundation stone on January 3 next. “The Centre will facilitate deliberations and discussions by international experts on various issues, including innovation in nuclear reactors and the nuclear fuel cycle, development of proliferation-resistant reactors, security technologies and the effects of radiation exposure,” Jhajjar Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ajit Balaji Joshi told The Tribune. Joshi said the centre would consist of five schools dealing with advanced nuclear energy system studies, nuclear security, radiation safety, application of radioisotopes and radiation technology in healthcare, agriculture and food. It would have the facility of virtual-reality laboratories, hypothetical nuclear facility, barrier technology test site and vehicle access control test site, sensor evaluation test bed, accreditation facilities for monitors and systems and radiation monitoring, calibration and accreditation laboratory, he said. “The centre will also be beneficial for the farmers as they will be able to get key information on seed upkeep through nuclear technology, long time protection of their agro products through solar energy,” said Joshi. The DC stated that the centre would also host short-term training courses for international nuclear experts in the field of nuclear security. Sources said financial assistance from France, Russia and the United States would also be taken to establish the centre for research and development of secure and proliferation resistant reactor systems. |
3 Mewat girls get recognition for scoring well in board exams
Gurgaon, December 29 The three girls are amongst five students who have been chosen from the backward district of Mewat for their appreciable performance in board examinations. The organisation awards Muslim students struggling against odds to get educated. “We have been invited to Guwahati which is unbelievable. For us the journey between our houses and schools was too long, but going to Guwahati is a big thing, especially for girls in our area, who are not expected to even peep outside houses without a family member’s company,” said Janista, daughter of a daily wager, who secured 82.4% marks in class X board exams. The enthusiasm is shared by Nusrat Bano who said, “Many people out here, including my father, follow the ideology of Tablighi Jammat. They have dubbed it as denouncement of outside world and for girls like us, our world has to be the four walls of home. We are sent to madrassas and anybody allowed to go beyond class 5 is considered lucky but my father decided to give me a chance. The decision saw a lot of opposition and I became a curious case in my neighbourhood as I would go to a proper school. This curiosity has increased now when they have come to know that I have been called to Guwahati. I do not know I will go or not but I am happy that at least my name has reached out of this meo land.” Nusrat had secured 78.4% while her friend Sabila Bano, daughter of a field worker has got 77.2% marks in class X. “All three of us started out in madrassa and fought lot of odds. We are happy to be the first wind of change here,” said

Jindal, Tanwar back former minister Tejinder Mann’s sons
Mor Majra (Karnal), December 29 Addressing a rally on the birth anniversary of their father at Mor Majra, the brothers said Brijender Mann (Bonny) would contest from Assandh while Ranbir Mann (Bobby) would contest from Kalayat. On an emotional note, Jindal said Tejinder Mann was like an elder brother to him and had catered to Karnal and Kaithal alike. His father OP Jindal
had good relations with him. He called upon people to support Tejinder’s sons, because they had his qualities. Reading out a message from Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda who remained absent, Jindal said not only Deepender but his entire family was with Manns. Sirsa MP Ashok Tanwar welcomed Bobby and Bonny in politics and also talked about Tejinder Mann’s life. He said both the sons of the former minister were well educated and willing to bring about a positive change in the society. Manns’ claimed that they would endeavour to bring a positive change in the current political scenario of exploitation and build strong relations of trust with people. “We are averse to politics of religion and caste and would fight elections on issues like corruption and unemployment and if voted to power would not take salaries,” they added. |
HJC leaders in a fix over cadres' demand for additional seats
Ravi S Singh Tribune News Service
Gurgaon, December 29 The hardening stand of the cadres has put the HJC leadership in a fix, as the seat sharing formula between the two parties has already been finalised. The HJC is to get two out of 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state. With regard to the Assembly elections, each has been given 45 seats. However, a strong demand within the party is additional two Lok Sabha and 15 Assembly seats from the BJP. According to many, in case the HJC leadership goes along with the restive cadres, it could have ramifications, as the BJP is angling to include the INLD in a possible broad alliance to prevent division in the anti-Congress votes in the Lok Sabha elections. The BJP, if need be, will adjust the INLD by giving some seats to it from its share of the eight Lok Sabha seats. The Hisar Lok Sabha seat, presently represented by HJC president Kuldip Bishnoi, will go his party’s share. The cadres say the party must get the Karnal and Bhiwani seats, besides one more, which may be mutually accepted by the two parties. Several quarters in the HJC apprehend that some of its senior leaders who may lose out on contesting the Lok Sabha elections in the present arrangement with the BJP could become disenchanted by the party. The cadres are exerting pressure on the leadership to take up the issue emphatically with the BJP in the next meeting of the state coordination committee. The committee is headed by state leader of the HJC and former MP Dharampal Malick. They have become vocal on the issue after the good public response to the recent statewide yatra of Kuldip Bishnoi. State leader of the HJC Tejpal Sharma summed up the mood in the party saying the yatra had raised expectations of the cadres. |
CPI, CPM to contest four LS seats
Panipat, December 29 However, the Left parties are sceptical about the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and are waiting for it to clearly spell out its political agenda and policies. CPI and CPM leaders, who held long consultations at a meeting held here to draw the strategy for the Lok Sabha poll, decided to contest four Lok Sabha seats in Haryana. The leaders of both parties decided that the CPM would contest from Sirsa and Hisar Lok Sabha seats while the CPI would field its candidates from Ambala and Karnal seats as they had a strong presence there. CPM state spokesperson Inderjeet Singh said Left parties would make a serious endeavour to throw up a policy based viable alternative to the mainstream parties, the Congress and the BJP, in Haryana. Both parties would share a common platform and launch a joint campaign with two rallies at Hisar and Karnal on February 23 and March 2 next year. The rallies would be addressed by national leaders of both parties. Asked about seeking support of the AAP, Inderjeet Singh said, "Right now, it is just a movement and we will think about it when it comes out with a clear policy statement." However, Left parties are open to an understanding with all secular parties which were against liberalisation and communalism, he added. He said the CPM and the CPI would stage demonstrations at all districts headquarters throughout the state on January 16 to oppose the privatisation of 3,519 transport routes and 36 per cent hike in power tariff. |
Havan held for Geetika Sharma
Sirsa, December 29 Even as Kanda’s supporters went around main markets of the town in a large procession of jeeps, cars and two-wheelers raising slogans like “Gopal Kanda Zindabad”, hundreds of local residents turned up to pay tributes to Geetika Sharma in the “hawan yajna” organised by Sirsa Municipal Council vice-president Leela Dhar Saini for the peace of her soul. Former minister’s daughter Sushila Kanda, son Lakh Ram, nephews Dhaval Kanda and Dhairya Kanda led the roadshow that started from grain market before culminating at Tara Baba Kutiya after passing through the main bazars. Tricycles, sewing machines and sweaters were distributed among poor on this occasion. Meanwhile, hundreds of local residents participated in a “havan yajna” organized by Municipal Council vice-president Leela Dhar Saini in the Bhadra Bazar area of Sirsa for the eternal peace of former airhostess Geetika Sharma’s soul. “It is shameful on the part of Kanda’s supporters to indulge in a showoff on the birhday of a person, who is responsible for the suicide of two innocent women and is accused of moral turpitude of the lowest degree,” said Saini while addressing people. |
Rors threaten stir over quota
Kurukshetra, December 29 Convener Rakam Singh Koyar said if they were not given justice now, they would take steps like boycotting the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections in 2014 and bringing rail and road traffic to a halt. Hundreds of members of the community gathered at the Ror Dharmashala here. "Haryana has given reservation to five communities, including Rors, but the Centre has discriminated against us," Koyar said. "Political leaders should raise their voice for
the Ror community, setting aside political interests. The community will support the party that helps them get reservation," he added. Former IAS officer and Ror community member Narender Singh said the youth of the community would have a safe and better future with reservation in Central jobs. "Community leaders will submit memorandums to all MPs and DCs of the state and meet Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi," Koyar said. |
MLAs want cancer institute shifted to Jind
Jind, December 29 Accusing Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda of regional discrimination, the INLD has sought the intervention of the Union Government to “save Jind from further discrimination” and demanded the shifting of the institute to the city. Party members said Jhajjar already had two big health institutes within the 50-sq km area. INLD MLAs of Jind district led by city MLA Harichand Middha have written a letter to the Prime Minister and the Union Health Minister, asking the Union Government to rise above political affiliations and prevent regional discrimination with this backward district. “What does Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda want to prove by constructing the institute in Jhajjar, which already has two big health institutes within the area of 50 sq km. Its construction in that area would not serve any purpose as patients of that area prefer to go to Delhi hospitals. It is another example of regional bias against Jind,” alleged the INLD MLA, Middha. INLD leaders stated that Jind was the "central point of Haryana" and therefore, the construction of a new health institute there would help patients across the state. “In fact, patients of Rajasthan and Punjab too will be able to get treatment from this institute if it is set up in Jind,” the letter stated. |
Youth’s body cremated; road blockade lifted
Bhiwani, December 29 Deepak was attacked with sticks by assailants when he was going home on Friday. He succumbed to his injuries in Hisar yesterday. Though the police registered a case, residents resorted to a road blockade alleging that the police was not registering a FIR against all suspects. The incident led to tension as members of the local traders association led by Rakesh Pradhan closed the market in protest against the incident. Bhiwani SP Mitesh Jain also reached the spot today and tried to placate the protesters who demanded immediate arrest of the accused. Dadri DSP Bijender Singh assured the protesters that the accused would be arrested soon. The protesters then lifted the blockade and took away the youth’s body for cremation. |

NCI to revolutionise cancer research
Jhajjar, December 29 The institute would have 710 beds for different facilities like surgical oncology, radiation oncology, medical oncology, anesthesia and palliative care, nuclear medicine etc. It will have a tissue repository, which would be the first-of-its-kind in India. The project is aimed to plan, conduct and coordinate research on types of cancer more specific to India, like tobacco-related cancers, cancer of the uterine cervix, gall bladder cancer and liver cancers. “The focus will be on understanding, analysing the cause and genesis of the above cancers. This will further translate the knowledge gained to develop feasible strategies to improve cancer-care services,” said Jhajjar DC Ajit Balaji Joshi, adding that the project was estimated to be completed in 45 months. The NCI would operate as a nodal centre for indigenous research, promotive, preventive and curative aspects of care and human resource development. The institute will broadly have clinical division, research divisions and disease management groups. These groups will go in to the details of all issues pertaining to management of various types of cancer. |
