Cong workers protest support to AAP
New Delhi, December 24 The protesters raised slogans 'Anna ke sath dhokha, hum nahi denge Kejriwal ko mauka (We won't give a chance to Kejriwal to cheat Anna), demanding the immediate withdrawal of Congress support to AAP. They were demanding a meeting with newly appointed DPCC chief Arvinder Singh Lovely and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. AAP on Monday ended the 15-day-long speculation over the next government in Delhi by staking claim and announcing Kejriwal as the Chief Minister-designate. After surprising everyone with its spectacular political debut, AAP announced its decision to accept Congress's outside support to form a minority government in Delhi. The decision came after a five-day exercise in which the party returned to the electorate with an unofficial referendum on whether to form a government. However, this seems to have created a rift among Congress workers as they are demanding a withdrawal of support to AAP. Senior party leader Janardan Dwivedi today said that the party should have raised people's issue while being in opposition and should not have supported AAP and that the party should have left it to others to form the government. Dwivedi's remarks came on a day when Congress workers are protesting the party's decision to support Arvind Kejriwal's bid to form the government. Ever since AAP decided to form the government, Congress leaders have been repeatedly emphasising that their support to AAP is not unconditional. "There is also an opinion that perhaps the decision to support AAP in this manner was not correct. Some people feel this," he said. "Their argument is that Delhi voters have not given their support to Congress to the extent that the party could win only eight seats and it has not even got the post of Leader of the Opposition. Perhaps, it would have been appropriate if we had left it to others to form the government," he said. |
Dense fog hits over 12 flights
New Delhi, December 24 The minimum temperature today was recorded at 8.5 degree Celsius, which is one degree above normal and the maximum was registered two notches below normal at 19.7 degree, said an IMD official. Three flights--one freighter aircraft, a Jet Airways flight from Abu Dhabi and a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul--had to be diverted as the pilots were not trained to land aircraft when the visibility is less than 200 metres, airport sources said. Fog started to descend at the airport early in the morning and the runway visibility kept fluctuating, causing problems for airport authorities to maintain the schedule of the flights. According to airport Met officials, the runway visibility was around 100 metres at the third runway (29/11) and around 125 to 200 metres on the main runway (28/10), while the general visibility was less than 50 metres. This led to delay in departures of some flights as the minimum runway visibility for low visibility take off is 125 to 150 metres. This also brought take-offs from the third runway to a halt but landings were taking place. There was no suspension of flight operations at the airport due to fog, an airport official said. Last week, dense fog had badly affected the flight operations at the airport. Yesterday, Delhi witnessed a clear morning and operations at IGI were normal after eight days of foggy conditions. |
BJP urges Nath to allow repair work in Badarpur
New Delhi, December 24 The unauthorised colonies located at the bank of the Yamuna river fall in the 'O' zone, said a BJP spokesperson. The delegation led by Goel brought to the notice of the Union Minister that due to the application of 'O' zone in these colonies and villages, no developmental activity such as construction of hospitals, dispensaries, community centres, and schools can be carried out. This is highly discriminatory to lakhs of residents living in these colonies and villages. They should get justice without any further delay. The delegation also pointed out that these regularised colonies are situated on more than 300 meters away from the Yamuna. It also appealed to the Minister to issue directions to the Delhi Development Authority to allocate adequate land in these areas for construction of schools, community centres, etc. |
