Chief Minister unlikely to be changed: Tamta
Pithoragarh, December 21 The Congress high command is likely to take a decision after the AICC session slated for January 17 next year,” said Pradeep Tamta, Almora MP and a supporter of Union Water Resources Minister Harish Rawat. Tamta said the high command had recently taken the decision to change the party organisation leadership in Delhi and Chhattisgarh while it left the decision in Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Uttarakhand. “Had the high command thought of changing the organisation or government leadership in Uttarakhand, it would have taken the decision along with other states where the changes were made,” he said. About the reports about the likely changes in the state leadership, sources of the state Congress said it was all a creation of the media. “Moreover, the fate of the Congress-led state government depends on the decision of the Progressive Democratic Front (PDF), which has seven legislators in the state and its leadership has already expressed its faith in Vijay Bahuguna," said Mathura Dutt Joshi, a Congress spokesman. The sources said before taking such a decision, the Congress high command would have to keep in mind the forthcoming panchayat and Lok Sabha elections. “Any last-minute changes in the government and organisation leadership can affect the fortunes of the party in the forthcoming elections adversely, as the new leaders will have no time to build a team and set his priorities to win the elections, which is the only aim of restructuring, if it takes place in the state,” they said. |

Now, Mahila Cong workers resign, burn CM’s effigy
Mussoorie, December 21 Several Mahila Congress members joined the Congress Seva Dal workers and blamed the Chief Minister and his son for sidelining real workers and nominating those who had no role in the party. They raised slogans against the Mussoorie Congress office-bearers for their dubious role in the matter. Speaking to mediapersons, Bharosi Rawat said the Congress had turned into a private syndicate where the grassroots level party workers had no say in important decisions. She figured prominently in the list of nominated ward members sent by the city Congress but her name was removed at the behest of Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna, his son Saket and some power brokers, she added. “The senior Congress workers, due to their vested interests, are bent upon weakening the party and the morale of the Congress workers had sunk to the lowest ebb due to such decisions,” she said. Sunil Panwar, president of Congress Seva Dal, who tendered his resignation yesterday, said Saket Bahuguna was responsible for the nomination of the ward members without consulting the party workers. He said if the Congress party did not mend its ways, it must forget about winning the Tehri Parliamentary seat in 2014. The Congress workers were agitated at the nomination of Sunil Bakshi, who was not even a primary member of the party. Bakshi said it was due to his contribution to the party that he had been considered for the post in the Municipal Council. Responding to the allegation that he was not even a primary member of the party, he said even Sachin Tendulkar was not a member of the party but he had been nominated for the Rajya Sabha, thus highlighting the fact that people who were actively contributing in the society were welcome in the party. Bhagwan Singh Rawat, Poonam Colinson, Kashmiri La, Jubaida, Beena Godiyal, Rosy Prasad and Anuradha Rawat also resigned from the Congress. |
