6 held under mining Act:The police have arrested six persons from the Sutlej basin in the district for their alleged involvement in illegal mining. Ten tractor-trailers and a canter laden with sand were seized by the police even as seven persons managed to escape. Three separate FIRs under IPC sections 379 and 411 and relevant sections of the Mines and Minerals (Regulation and Development) Act have been registered.
2 killed in road mishap:
Two persons were killed while three others sustained injuries when the vehicle they were in and another coming from the opposite direction collided at Darapur village on the the Ferozepur highway, 16 km from here, on Friday. Bant Singh (60) died on the spot while Jagjit Singh, who was behind the wheels, died a couple of hours after the accident in a hospital.

Man held for murder: The police today arrested a man on the charge of murdering a woman of Langroya village in the district. The accused, identified as
Baggo, had murdered Surinder Kaur (75) during the intervening night of August 30 and 31 when she was alone in her house. The police have seized a victim’s mobile phone from the accused. patiala
Official held for graft: A Vigilance Bureau team from Patiala on Friday arrested Bhajan Lal, Soil and Water Conservation Officer, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a local resident. According to the FIR, the accused had demanded a sum of Rs 4,000 from a local firm in lieu of clearing their cheque payments against some equipment supplied to the solid conservation department. Shaheedi Jor Mela begins: The annual Shaheedi Jor Mela started at Gurduwara Parivar Vicchhora Sahib at Sarsa Nangal nere here on Friday. The melas are held in December in the memory of Guru Shri Guru Gobind Singh's sons at Gurudwara Pariwar Vichhora at Sarsa Nangal, Gurudwara Bhatha Sahib at Kotla Nihang and Gurudwara Shaheed Ganj at Morinda to be concluded at Fatehgarh Sahib. The Sikh Guru lost his family at Parivar Vicchhora Sahib in the Sarsa river floods. Seven "akhand path" were started here. Decrease in paddy arrival:
The arrival of paddy in the grain markets of the district has decreased from 1,80,206 metric tonne (MT) last year to 1,73,500 MT this year so far. Rao Kaushal Singla, Food and Supply Controller, Ropar, said out of the 22 grain markets in the district, most of the paddy had arrived at Chamkaur Sahib (36,799 MT) followed by Morinda (35,518 MT). At Ropar, 21,037 MT was brought in the grain market by farmers. The lowest arrival of paddy was recorded at Ajouli (449 MT), he said.
