Hoteliers ask companies to invest in city too:
A day after the conclusion of investors summit held at Mohali, the Bathinda hoteliers today demanded that companies should invest in the city too so that the hotel industry is benefited. President of the Bathinda Hotels, Restaurants and Resorts Association, Satish Arora, said the state government should bring more investments in the city too so that the hotel industry could get business and was benefited.

Two prisoners manhandle Central Jail staff: Two jail inmates were booked on Wednesday for abusing and manhandling jail staff at the jail factory on December 5. A jail employee Nirmal Singh complained that accused are brothers. Accused Kuldip Singh and Gurdip Singh from Chughe Kalan village are lodged in the Bathinda Central Jail and are serving the life imprisonment. On December 11, the two were working in the factory of the jail when they picked up quarrel with the Deputy Superintendent of jail and other jail employees. They allegedly abused the jail staff, manhandled and threatened them. The police have registered a case.

Man injured in accident: A man got injured in an accident when a tractor rammed into his car. In his complaint to the Nathana police, Pratap Singh, a resident of Bhucho Kalan said on December 3 at around 9:15 pm he was driving his car on main road Bhucho Kalan when driver of a tractor rammed his tractor into his car. The tractor driver has been identified as Jarnail Singh of Sema Kalan village. The police have registered a case against the accused.

Fittings of submersible pump stolen: Fittings of a submersible pump, meant for drawing out water from the earth, were stolen from the fields of Jasvir Singh, a resident of Dhadde village. In his complaint to the Balianwali police, Jasvir Singh said Baljit Kaur, Yodha Singh, and two unidentified persons of his village stole away the fittings at around 6 am. The fittings were worth Rs 9,000. The police have registered a case.

Blankets donated: Pooran Singh, a resident of MES Colony donated 40 blankets to the Sahara Welfare Society, an NGO, to distribute among the poor. Sahara president appealed people to donate for the poor, helpless and mentally unstable patients.

PU faculty mourns death:
Faculty members of Panjab University on Wednesday observed a two-minute silence in memory of Dr Surjit Singh, Director of the Institute of Development Studies, Jaipur, who died on Monday. Dr Surjit Singh, who authored 13 books, worked on a number of projects funded by the World Bank, Asia Development Bank, Planning Commission, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, International Labour Organisation and the governments of Rajasthan and Punjab.

Kairon meets Italian envoy: Minister of Food and Supplies, Adesh Pratap Singh Kairon, today met Italian envoy Daniele Mancini at New Delhi. Mancini said various opportunities were available for entrepreneurs of Punjab in Italy and vice versa for Italian business houses.

Youth gets 10-year jail for raping minor:
The Additional Sessions Court on Wednesday sentenced a youth to 10 years of imprisonment for kidnapping and sexually abusing a minor girl. The 16-year-old girl was kidnapped from her residence in Gobindgarh Basti by Satnam Singh of Godhewala village on April 12 this year. The girl's father Suba Singh complained about this incident to the local police that registered a case on April 18.
