Dressed in traditional Indian attire, Sunny Leone, in Chandigarh to promote her film Jackpot, sure wins a few hearts while leaving others missing a beat or two…

As a young girl watching Madhuri Dixit smile, laugh, cry and dance, Sunny Leone too wished to be on the big screen. And, she is happy she got a chance! "Working in Bollywood has been like a dream come true for me. Madhuri Dixit is a legend. I can't think of being in her space ever, but consider myself fortunate that I got my share on screen," says Sunny in Chandigarh to promote her film Jackpot.

She looks ravishing, dressed in yellow traditional Indian attire, flashes her pretty smile as cameras around her clicks feverishly, before answering the questions thrown at her.

Sunny plays Maya, a floor manager in a casino. "Playing Maya was fun but she is not what I am in real life. She is manipulative and negative, a temptress who uses all tactics in her power to take the con forward," says the actress.

Playing a seductress, does she fear she will be labeled just that? "I believe every film should be sexy. Each shot should be beautiful, so the audience cannot take its eyes off the screen. It's just my second film and largely performance-driven."

Playing the hero

Sachiin Joshi labels the film an entertainer from the word go. A thriller, this has no heist but a con in which winning and losing is important and lives involved. For Sachiin, the movie is significant for it gave him a chance not only to work with talented director Kaizad Gustad but also legendary actor Naseeruddin Shah. "Doing the film made me learn so much as an actor," says Sachiin, who is all praise on how professional Sunny Leone is.

Sunny is happy playing her second innings in Bollywood and loving each day of the shoot. She owns a production company, but is taking it slow and steady before she ventures into making Hindi films. "I am too new here. It's the time to understand the system, making contacts and then let's see then," says Sunny, who felt way more confident on the shoots of Jackpot because she understood Hindi better!

Ask her on plans for Hollywood and the answer is a clear no. She's happy Jackpot gives her chance to share screen space with her husband too (another dream come true). She thanks the production house for making it feasible.

Working with Naseeruddin Shah made Sunny gain a lot. "He would all be in a conversation and as the director called shot, he would get under the skin of character; the voice modulation, emotions, he's all there. If only we could learn half of what he is, it would be fabulous," says Sunny.

Full points for the pretty face, congenial nature, she would go 'sushhhh…' when her soft voice would drown in the din of cameras clicking and people moving. So how about a Punjabi film, "If I get a good offer, why not?" Any offers so far? "No," she says with a sweet smile!

After the break
Ashima Batish

Remember the Rahul Roy of Aashiqui fame? After years of oblivion he is back with a thriller — To be or not to be.

It you look at the career graph of Rahul Roy, it's so much similar to that of the tragic hero of Bollywood films. A boy-next-door with no godfather or family background in the industry rises to the zenith of success with his debut film, Aashiqui, followed by a slew of other projects that bomb at the box-office. And then he vanishes, only to be seen two decades later in Bigg Boss and a couple of TV shows, but even that didn't last long. Ask Rahul about it and he says he has no regrets about being out of the picture. The only thing he laments is that he didn't choose the right scripts or vice-versa. But let bygones be bygones, he is eager to begin again, this time, with a thriller, To be or not to be. In Chandigarh with his co-stars, Akansha Shivhare and Trivikram Matoo, he speaks about his imperfect past, simple present and future that he hopes to be somewhat perfect.

The role

Needless to say, Rahul plays lead in the film, which is about a couple going through a bad marriage and a stranger who changes their relationship forever. "This is the kind of intellectually stimulating role that I have always wanted to do. At this age, I don't think I am cut out for a romantic, comedy or hero." Now that the shooting for the film has been wrapped up, he will soon start working on the next, Shoot, run, kill, which will be produced under his banner Rahul Roy Productions.

Looking back

Rahul Roy announces that he stayed away from Bollywood for dearth of good scripts. "There was a time when 47 films were offered to me, I rejected 20 but even for the rest of the ones that went on floor, I knew none would do well." He feels that things would have been different if he had got the right guidance or the production values of films were better or if there were as many multiplexes. "I started my career at the age of 24, delivered a couple of hits and then times changed." Offers stopped coming and he shifted base to Australia. "There were no financial issues ever but the motivation to act in films dried up." He is all-praise for the sequel Aashiqui 2, its music and 100-crore collection. "But will it be remembered and referred to after 25 years of its making?”he questions.

Small screen

Bigg Boss might have opened new career avenues for many actors, but Rahul feels for him it hardly changed anything. He got many offers in serials as well, but those never suited his sensibilities. "I would have worked if money was a consideration." Even in Bigg Boss, he went with the mindset that he wouldn't survive for more than three weeks. "Nobody nominated me and luckily I won the show."

In action

Akansha Shivhare and Trivikram Matoo play pivotal roles in the film. While Akansha has done theatre and television serials before, Trivikram started his career in the glamour world with modelling. A breast cancer survivor, Akansha took a break of almost two years before returning to acting. "All this while I was recuperating from cancer; undergoing chemotherapy." Trivikram comes from the family of bureaucrats in Rajasthan. "I stayed away from serials as money wasn't a priority." Looks like he is following Rahul Roy!

On the second day of Tourism Fest Goa stands out as a tourist destination

Visitors at the Chandigarh stall. Photos: Pradeep Tewari

If sun, sand and surf are all that you associate with Goa, well make way to Goa's stall at Tourism Fest 2013. Spice Gardens, river rafting, heritage homes, nature treks-it has much more on offer!

Day 2 of the fest has eager planners flocking national and international stalls. While some are looking for best packages, others are in search of exotic locales.

The fest provides all these and much more. "When they showed our Dudhasagar Falls belonging to Tamil Nadu in Chennai Express, we were offended. But not any more, people did find out this is in Goa and we have so many tourists enquiring and visiting the same," says Armando Duarte, senior manger, Goa Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. "Once you have had enough of the sun, sand, surf and tan, come to us, we take you on a spice trip, serve you authentic Goan food, make you stay in heritage homes," he promises.

Different stalls from different states eagerly dole out details on historic, nature, religious tourism. Right from Kila Raipur Rural Sports, Patiala Heritage Walk, Hola Mohalla the Punjab stall has many attractions that you would love to visit. Himachal has special packages for students, winter in Kashmir (they have an attractive 7 nights 8 days package starting at Rs 18888) is what our crown of country has on offer. If visiting nature's playground Uttarakhand is on your agenda or you want to celebrate life in close by Haryana, it's all here.

Colourful Chinese stall has all the information if you want to explore the Xinjiang Grape Festival or Tianchi Lake (Heavenly Pool). Ethiopia is selling its relics and national parks as is Philippines, offering destination weddings, night life, shopping and more.

Pallavi, a mother to two, is merrily stall hopping, she exclaims, "Our own country has so much to offer, I am not only planning this vacation about also one for next year."

And, food is as popular as tourism. Culinary expert Kandla Nijhowne is happy sharing benefits of brown rice. Live competitions engage the chefs. Chef Thomas A Gugler dons a red turban a la Punjabi way. Says Chef Pallav from JW Marriott, "In the coming days Chandigarh will become a big melting pot for all cuisines of northern India, not just Punjabi fare. It's a great initiative by CII."

Make the most of it, till it lasts…

On till December 7.

Punjabi scope
All but love-ly!
Jasmine Singh

Now, this is what we call an ideal marriage. This is what pure divine love is. When a real life couple decides to take their romance to reel, how beautiful can it get! Love You Soniye, starring real-life couple Karanbir Bohra and Teejay Sidhu along with MTV Roadies bad boy Raghu Ram, Vindu Dara Singh, Upasna Singh and Shivnder Mahal, is a film meant for two kinds of people - those who wish they could romance their wife on screen or those who want to see the disaster loving your husband or wife on screen can create and take lessons from it.

Directed by Sahil Kohli, the film has a 'dead-pulled-back-from-grave-dead-again' story. Animosity between a young boy and a not-so-young looking girl; finally both decide to marry thereby upsetting their folks but finally all is well - is the story in a nutshell.

This time, we don't say anything about the director Sahil Kohli. There isn't anything to talk about direction since we never saw it. Yes, the only thing the director along with the make-up artist could have done is pulled back the hero Karanbir Bohra's hair neatly, applied some gel and made him look a little less alien! The director washed his hand off this duty as well. Let's jump the story, screenplay and dialogues since we didn't encounter any, yet again!

Never mind, we had hope in Teejay Sidhu and Karanbir Bohra as they play a reel life couple. Chemistry…forget the word, there is not even physics or mathematics between the two! Both the actors are out-of-this-world because they talk, act, sing and dance like some extra-terrestrial beings. Their diction is so out of sorts that instead of giving money to the director, they should have hired a Punjabi language teacher instead. The bad man Raghu Ram at one glance looks nice, but just needs a right director and a better role.

Vindu Dara Singh and Upasna Singh hardly amuse. There is nothing funny about them. Shivender Mahal is the only one who has acted. Tanya Abrol, the girl from Chak De India, is okay given she plays the role of a friend.

Waiting to hear something about the music…oh god the lesser the better!

Nothing to show
Jasmine Singh

Bad, worse, worst…how easily and effortlessly Punjabi movies are moving ahead in this serial order! For a layman, whether it is bad, worse or worst, the three actually mean bad. And for once we agree. Just U & Me is yet another Punjabi movie, which you can place in any of the above mentioned word.

Directed by Manduip Singh, the film stars Gitaz Bindrakhia, Priyal Gor (Ram Milaye Jodi Fame), Chandrachur Singh, Shahbaz Khan, Jaswinder Bhalla, Deepshikha and Himani Shivpuri; does this sound like some Hindi tele-serial get-together? Well, you can say that.

The director Manduip Singh can't be blamed here, we don't mean literally though. You throw in Gitaz Bindrakhia, a fairly good looking 'boy' and Priyal Gor and you expect some chemistry, some romance. Are you asking for too much then? A thought that might have crossed the director's mind too! But, we went on hoping that the rest of the stars will create some magic. It is probably the director's over-expectation from the cast that brought in expectedly low result.

The same old story, same in the same old and even worst manner! A young boy and girl fight; clash and ultimately fall in love. And then, they also elope in the middle of the night. However, in the next scene both are shown enjoying a ride, an actress in her car and hero on his bike in the bright morning light! Any answers?

The story is nothing new; the screenplay and dialogues even sadder. In fact so many sad things in the beginning rub on the good actors like Jaswinder Bhalla, Chandrachur Singh and Shahbaz Khan. They have delivered a mediocre movie, something that wasn't expected of them. Coming to the hero Gitaz, the 'boy' looks good but let him join high school first. Same goes for Priyal, we'll talk more when both leave kindergarten!

Himani Shivpuri, who plays Jaswinder Bhalla's wife, disappointed the most. She is known to be a fine actress. And Deepshika, who Deepshika? With everything going bad, how could you expect this one to work wonders!

Finally, when nothing worked, the songs also followed suit.

R... Rajkumar

Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha in R...Rajkumar

The film stars Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles. The story revolves around Rajkumar (Shahid Kapoor), an aimless youth who works for a drug baron named Shivraj (Sonu Sood). For their love to flourish, he must destroy the drug cartel to which both, Shivraj and Parmar owe allegiance, which is controlled by a mafia don named Ajit Taaka (Srihari), who operates out of Malaysia.

Masala mind mind

It's a typical masala film that makes no sense. You'd be better off picking up a magazine or a newspaper. The only reason why I sat through the entire film was plainly because I paid for it.

Jasjeet Singh, student

Nothing creditable

I am really disappointed by the plot, the storyline, the action sequences, and all that the film has to its credit, even the fact that it's has been directed by Prabhu Deva, who makes amazing masala films, could not save this one. I didn't like the film at all.

Sanchit Mahajan, student

What a waste

I didn't like the film. It's monotonous. You keep getting to see the same kind of films every time and there is nothing new in this film. It's a sheer waste of time.

Love You Soniye

Produced by Karanvir Bohra, Love You Soniye is a romantic comedy Punjabi movie starring Karanvir Bohra and Teejay Sidhu in the lead roles. The film also features Raghu Ram, Vindu Dara Singh, Harry Anand and Upasna Singh.

Time pass

Well, the film is so so. I liked it for those guys giving Raghu Ram a sardar look. Watch it only if you want to while away your time. I didn't like the film that much.

Varun Bisht, student

Just bearable

It's a complete time pass film. There is nothing new in the film, but it's bearable to a certain extent. I did like Karanvir's acting in the film though.

Punjabi Circle Organisation is providing a platform to local talents

It is a noble cause taken up to address various issues. Beginning from drug addiction among Punjabis in India and UK to unemployment to giving talent its due, Punjabi Circle Organisation has a lot on its radar.

"Punjabi cultural awards will be held on January 25, which will raise funds to combat social vices and at the same time, we will honour stalwarts from the industry for their contribution to the Punjabi music," informs NS Riat, Global Founder Patron of PCI, who is in Chandigarh to announce Punjabi Cultural Awards.

Set up in 2009, PCI has always worked towards promoting Punjabi music. It holds concerts for Jagjit Singh, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Mehdi Hasan. "There is no dearth of talent in Punjab, the only challenge is to scout it. It will also give the youth of Punjab a direction, helping them to stay away from vices like drug addiction." Last year, he says, "Kumar Laggo, a singer from the underprivileged background was picked and sent to UK for recording. He adds that the funds raised from concerts will also be used to rehabilitate the migrants from Punjab, who fail to find a livelihood in the UK.

It's not only singers who are being recognised by PCI. "We also aim to cover lyricists, poets, actors, anybody who has worked for the promotion of Punjabi culture."

Yaaran Da Katchup promises to add a new angle to Punjabi film industry

You can take a Punjabi out of Punjab, but you can never take Punjab out of a Punjabi. As we engage in an interesting conversation with the team of up and coming film, Yaaran Da Katchup, who claim to have shot more than half of the film at Pattaya, Thailand, we are acquainted with their first-hand experience of shooting a regional film abroad, the limitations, and how they managed it all.

"We shot over 75 per cent of the film in Thailand, while the rest of the 25 per cent was shot in Chandigarh," says Vikram Bansal, the producer of the film. "The main reason for shooting the film abroad was purely because the script demanded that. The story of the film revolves around the lives of three friends, who decide to meet up post seven years of their college," says he, while sharing the content of the film, which is a romantic comedy masala.

The film features Jaswinder Bhalla, BN Sharma, Rana Ranbir, Vijay Tandon, Manreet Kaur, Anil Juneja, Hardy Sandhu, Shagun Jaswal, Ranjan Sehgal, Anita Hassandani, Yuvika Chaudhary and Varun Sharma in the lead roles. Hardy Sandhu of the Soch fame says, "I have never had any formal training in acting and singing shall always remain a priority, but I am looking forward to act in more films. Though I was a little apprehensive on the first day and was camera conscious, I think it all turned out really well later."

Meanwhile, Vikram says that they have tried to show the Thai culture in the film but that has in no way overshadowed the culture of Punjab and that it is a Punjabi film to the core. "I think this film will be a turning point in the history of Punjabi film industry," he adds.

Meanwhile, BN Sharma, who essays a double role in the film, says, "For an actor, the location does not matter, but it is the character that holds paramount importance." Jaswinder Bhalla, who is accused of improvising the dialogues, says, "I would really like to do something different next time on," he signs off.

Get physical
One for the stamina
Vishal Thukral

Most people start huffing after just 10 minutes of low intensity workout or after climbing a few stairs. It means the stamina level is too low and there is a need to improve it. The physical activities are not beneficial if those cannot be done for long enough. There are exercises that can help increase stamina, a few of which are discussed below…

Interval training

Interval training involves shorter duration of high intensity activity followed by short period of low intensity training. This could include running 9 mph for three minutes followed by a minute of jogging 6 mph. Quick bursts of energy followed by short breaks to catch breath is a great way to improve stamina. Another routine which include a minute of high knees followed by 30 seconds of step touch may also be performed to increase the capability of body to exercise for longer period. For both the above routines six to eight sets is recommended to begin with.

Combined training

Most people reserve one day for strength and another day for cardio. Try combining the two instead. Few exercises which could be followed --Use a light weight bench, press 25 reps immediately followed by 25 reps pull ups, then run a mile as fast as possible and repeat 4 to 5 sets. Another good example--Jump rope for a minute, followed by 20 squats, and 20 sit ups. Repeat six to eight sets.

Bicycling

To get into this routing one can use a stationery bicycle or even a real fitness bike, to build stamina ride more distance instead of increasing the intensity. It means set the longer distance or spend at least 30 to 40 minutes riding the bike.

Hybrid exercises

Hybrid exercises are performed by combining more than just a single pattern of muscle moment. Examples of hybrid exercises are squats with shoulder press or lunge and shoulder press etc. The exercises if combined two at a time will provide double results. Remember to do minimum 15 to maximum 25 reps of each exercise followed by three to five sets. Or else, try 20 pushups (three to five sets) and then do a stretching exercise for five minutes. This will help body to increase stamina as the quick and light exercises are repeated turn by turn. So to increase the stamina hybrid exercises must be tried.

Aerobics routine

About 30 to 40 minutes (including warm up and cool down exercises) of floor aerobics or step aerobics on alternate day could be an ideal way to build the body endurance and stamina.

Winter special

The change of season can lead to stress. It is time to do meditation to get rid of the stress. Meditation is an act of banishing thoughts, focusing on breath or repeating a single word or phrase to fire up the body's natural relaxation response.

Green thumb
Turn a new leaf!
Satish Narula

At times, when it comes to choosing plants for the garden, gardeners are at loss, especially when it is a fruit tree. This is very important in case one is planning a new garden. The choice has to be correct in the initial stage itself as the fruit trees can not be replaced frequently.

The garden is for everyone in the family to enjoy. A member in the family may not be having much interest in rearing the plants but when it comes to enjoying the fruit, everyone does. It is so and should also be as a family is a unit of members with diversified tastes and the benefit of everyone's talent should reach others. The members should, however, be consulted on the type of fruit tree one wants. Anyhow, there are a few that should find a place in every garden. Let us help you in selection.

The first and the foremost that comes to mind is the lime or lemon. In the districts of Bathinda, Abohar, Moga etc. it is lime and in the sub-mountainous districts like Hoshiarpur, Ropar, Nawanshehr, Chandigarh, Ambala etc., it is lemon. Planting lime trees in these areas is not successful as those are prone to diseases that kill the twig terminals where the fruit is borne. It is also not difficult to spot a good plant in one of the friend's residence as there are many a strain available. One could multiply a plant from there or else get it from some source where pedigree of the plant is known for its quality and bearing.

Lemon is almost a daily used item. It is a good source of Vitamin C too. There is a time in a year when it sells for about Rs 100 a kg. At a time when it is available aplenty in the garden, one could preserve its juice too for use in lean period.

Another fruit that one can have is guava, again a very rich source of Vitamin C. Why I am stressing on Vitamin C is because, it gives the body immunity to fight diseases. It is good for all the age groups and the daily body requirement of Vitamin C is to be met everyday as it does not stay in the body. Some people have apprehension that guava gets insect infested. Well, yes, it does during the rainy season but then if you pick it up a bit earlier, when it is raw, it is free from this menace. The fruit fly attack only when the skin starts loosening up. Also, it is only rainy season crop that gets infested, at times. The winter season crop is free from it. It is, therefore, also advised to get rid of summer crop to get healthier and better quality produce in winter. (To be continued)

Gold digger!
Mona

Jennifer Kotwal loves being herself in real and reel life. Her latest show Oh My Gold lets her do exactly that and more!

This model-turned-actress not only gets to travel to three of India's most beautiful cities — Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru — but also shop to her heart's content…and shop for gold, a metal that most women are obsessed about.

TLC's latest golden girl, Jennifer couldn't help but indulge in the 'jewellery paradise' shopping spree gilded in gold and studded with every precious gem she ever dreamt of.

"The show has been fun. It has been awesome visiting the three cities and meeting their avant-garde geniuses who are doing unimaginably creative things in the world of jewellery," says Jennifer, a Parsi from Mumbai who bonded with other cultures and the role jewellery plays on occasions like wedding.

The show that its host describes as 'sweet, simple and beautiful' brings you home traditional, quintessentially region-specific ornaments as well. "There are many ways to wear a piece of jewellery and doing that was incredible fun," says the actor who made it big in her high school with show Just Mohabbat.

She enjoyed different styles of jewellery in different parts of India, "It was difficult to miss the diverse preferences people have for gold in different regions. People in North love the flashy stuff, they wear gold as if everyday is their birthday. South Indians value gold but like it simple and traditional," says Jennifer.

This Mumbai girl doesn't wear gold in fast- paced metro life but loves to dress up for festive occasions. "The show has the perfect timing. With the wedding season in, and so many invites at my doorstep, I am all set to carry some gold."

Oh My Gold makes Jennifer come back to telly after a long time. "I can't do regular TV stuff anymore. I will be so misfit in mythological serials anyhow," reasons the girl who followed Bollywood and then South Indian cinema as offers came her way.

Her current choice of work — "The shows that let me be," says Jennifer who would rather go to work and have fun than feeling lost in a strange plot. "It's amazing to work with TLC. They are absolutely professional and we are a great team," says Jennifer who is looking forward to another show preferably a food-related one!

About movies, she is all set to shoot for another film in January and that will put her foodie self step back and get into aggressive training.

"I am enjoying myself, December being my favourite month of the year when everyone is all excited about holidays, having fun and all the positive vibe all around."

Oh My Gold will delight and dazzle the viewers from December 12 every day at 9 pm on TLC.

Beauty & the brush
Manpriya Singh

From patting on cakey blusher to sophisticated air brush make-up, bridal make-up has evolved and how...

A peep into the sepia coloured wedding albums brings out the stark contrast in brides rather than the guests. When even lesser pixels could not hide the facial flaws and at times, even the black and white photography is not able to hide the loud colours. A couple of faux pas shine through. A dot on the forehead needed to be stretched all the way above the brow line. Every facial feature needed to be coloured. When wedding make-up meant putting everything up on you and going over the top with that.

More than blusher

The D-day is no more the perfect excuse to look like a Christmas tree. "In 2004, when I started doing wedding make-up, it used to be very cakey. The look and colours and styling has undergone a sea change since then," shares Tanvi KG of I. Style Makeovers. She adds, "There was a lot of emphasis on blusher and it was all loud."

With the advent of technology came the need for perfection. It's an era when high resolution cameras literally speak a thousand words. Opines Richa Agarwal, director, Cleopatra Spa, "Initially the bridal make-up was taken very lightly. It meant loud eyes and lots of colour. Now with high definition photo-shoots and high resolution equipment, the make-up needs to be defined and flawless."

Corrective measures

Traditional, experimental or subtle, there's a look you want to achieve and philosophy you stick to before pulling out the brushes. Then are a couple of things that form the essence of bridal make-up; it needs to be long-stay, flawless and enhanced. Nods Rabia, professional hair and make-up artist, Innoxa, "It's a special occasion for the bride and she needs to look her best. It essentially has to be a bit more enhanced and look immaculate. All the flaws need to be corrected."

Rabia
“There is so much you can do with a bride today." — Rabia, make-up artist

Experimental mode

Given the stiff competition from the heavy outfit and jewellery and over-decked guests, there's a lot that it takes to make the bride shine through. The fact that girls walk in confident and are ready to experiment helps. Shares Diana Dolma, Chandigarh-based freelance make-up artist, "A lot of them are wearing gowns and experimental clothes for their pre and post wedding functions. With so many bright and beautiful coloured outfits, there's more scope for us to experiment and transform their looks."

Hair further takes things a notch up. Shares Rabia, "There are braids, braided up dos and buns and smoky eyes and bright colours. There is so much you can do with a bride today." Red is definitely back and so are the all the bright and happy hues.

Air lift

The recent discovery by the brides in the city, air brush make-up increasingly finds a mention and is favoured for several reasons. "Most of the brides these days are going in for air brush make-up because it is extremely camera friendly and is very hygienic. It hides flaws like anything and gives a smooth glowing finish," adds Tanvi. What else does a bride need? A smooth flawless skin, make-up that enhances the right features, hides the wrong ones. All these sans screaming colours and contrasts. Brides have come of age.

Chatter box
Priya’s new companion

Popular show Bade Achhe Lagte Hain has been cashing on the love story of Ram (Ram Kapoor) and Priya (Sakshi Tanwar), but with the arrival of new characters and their children growing up post the leap, the romance has started to wean off. With misunderstandings cropping between them regarding another woman, the love seems to be flying out of the window completely. And looking at their mother being so upset, Priya's lovely daughter Myrah (Vinti Idlani), Pari (Pragiti Chowrasia) and Pihu (Sonia Balani) will plan a surprise for her. Since Priya loves animals and is fond of pets, her daughters will think of bringing a puppy to make their mother happy in the best possible way.

Ram is allergic to puppies. So what will happen to the pet? Like a perfect husband, seeing his wife happy, Ram will decide to keep the dog and tolerate his allergy for the happiness of his partner. The whole family will be glad with this decision and will be seen spending some happy moments with their new family member. As for Priya, she will be in the seventh heaven finding a new companion and also getting back her old companion (Ram) in her life.

The mole story

Actress Sambhavna Seth, who is known for her sexy siren image, has few moles on her face. One of them happens to be on her nose, which people often mistake for a fly. But Sambhavna says she won't get rid of them. "Many times people think there is a fly or something else on my nose, but when I tell them it's a mole they get surprised. I consider my moles as my beauty asset. I have three moles — one just below my lips, one on my cheek and the other one on my nose. I treat that as a gift from God."

Ready for big entry

Bollywood actor Aashish Chaudhary is all set to make his entry in the upcoming episodes of Zee TV's Ek Mutthi Aasman. Sources inform that Aashish's character Raghav Singhania will fly down stylishly from a helicopter as part of the sequence. The actor has already shot for the promo and his entry will be aired sometime next week.

Beating the stress

Actors have busy schedules and hectic lifestyles. Actor Eijaz Khan indulges in different activities to cope up with stress. He says, "It could be running, cycling or just sitting on the beach; outdoor activities make me feel fresh and energetic. I like to get out of the house. Internet surfing is also something that I enjoy. My laptop is like a little window to the whole world. With a little click I can turn to any direction and observe or read about anything anywhere. I carry my laptop on my shoot daily."

Calling it quits

Fantasy show Jeannie Aur Juju seems to be struggling. First the viewers were surprised when Giaa Maanek all of a sudden got replaced by Rubina Dilaik for the role of Jeannie. The recent exit of Amit Tandon and Neha Mehta from the show has apparently left the boat sinking.

Comeback for Anchal

Donning the avatar of a village belle and veiling her face with a ghoonghat this time, Anchal will enter the scene as Meethu, Vikram's (Rahul Sharma) fiancé. Her ghoonghat constantly gets stuck in door knobs, hooks and latches and she does things that reveal that she knows this house very well. Vikram happens to be Shail's (Vaishnavi Mcdonald) nephew and she'll use him for her own vested interests.

An excited Anchal said on her comeback, "The best part about my comeback is my look, which has changed completely. Now I'm a village belle with a Rajasthani accent. It's almost like playing a new character in the show. Meethu bears a lot of resemblance with Deepika Padukone's character Leela in Ram-Leela. Can't wait to get back on the sets with the entire gang — Rupal, Mahima, Ankit and now Piyush."

Anchal's entry is slated to happen by end of this week. Keep watching Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke, every Monday to Friday at 7:30 pm only on Zee TV. — HRM

Over a cup of Koffee

Salman Khan opened the latest season of Koffee with Karan on his own terms and he was joined by his father Salim Khan. We rarely see the father-son duo together on television. Here is an overview of the other pairs coming on the show.

Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone They are two heroines who get along a little bit and the gorgeous divas will share the couch on the show. In reality, their friendship is just for show as professional rivalry has come in the way.

Farhan Akhtar and Vidya Balan: The two stars, who will be next seen together in Shaadi Ke Side Effects, recently shot for the chat show as a part of their promotional strategy for their film. Farhan and Vidya share a friendly rapport with each other as well as host Karan. It would be interesting to see what information they have to share.

Kareena Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor: The cousins have not spoken together before and Karan Johar has managed a first yet again. Kareena is totally pulling Ranbir's leg and spilling the beans on his alleged romance with Katrina. This one will be super entertaining!

Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan: This will be their first time together on television as a couple and the episode should be fun and insightful as they talk about their family and movies. This will be their first time together on television as a couple and the episode should be fun and insightful as they talk about

Freida Pinto and Nargis Fakhri : They are gorgeous. One has come from the US and the other has settled in the US. We do not hear them speak very often. Nargis is pretty ballsy and she must be the only who would not be awkward sharing space with Freida.

Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh: Their episode is part of promotions for their movie Gunday. There was some rivalry between them which was personal and professional as well but it seems that they have buried the past. We can guarantee that Ranveer will steal the show.

Mitika Goolry and Jake Fowler with Zak and Zinch
Mitika Goolry and Jake Fowler with Zak and Zinch

Four piercing eyes size you up before the small brown bundles of fur scamper to their mistress warning the Goolry household of the intruders with their shrilly barks. That is Zak and Zinch who have been with this family since the last seven years.

Zak, a toy Pomeranian, is the one with inquisitive eyes and interesting half-turned tail while Zinch from the Pekinese breed has the penetrating eyes and an extra agile little frame.

We wonder from where did they get their quaint names? "Oh! We got them in 2006 and we got the names from the main players of a football tournament," says the young owner, Mitika Goolry. The real nature of the little canines come to fore when her better half Jake Fowler comes and sits next to her. The bedlam that followed showed how possessive they were of their mistress.

"They are very friendly but the moment I go near my wife they just can't tolerate sharing her," adds Jake with a friendly grin. We learn from the grand mom that "Zinch is more dominating and growls if he is not paid attention first. They are a big support and are the best company," says she as she makes the next move in her game of Solitaire.

Chicken stew is their main meal but as Mitika says, "They go bonkers when they sniff 'halwa or prashad' in the house. From their sharp barks they seem to be short tempered but it seems to be otherwise. As Jake puts it, "They are very friendly with all visitors except small children and I think it is because they feel ignored as we tend to give more attention to the children."

Very fond of taking small walks Zak and Zinch are like two babies being wonderstruck with the surroundings outside. Interestingly though they are very fond of keeping themselves groomed. Zak loves to take a bath but Zinch has to be hunted out from under the bed to be cleaned up. Together they keep good company to each other, jumping around the house and playing. "We have kept these breeds since many years and now can't think of keeping any other," quips Mitika, while the silver haired grandma nods in agreement.

Under-eyes bags can make one look older and tired
Dr Vikas Sharma

Nobody wants to look into the mirror with the sight of under-eye bags staring back at him or her as this can make one look tired and older than one really is. Switching on to an active healthy lifestyle can help one in reducing the baggy eyes. There are several causes of under-eye bags and sooner or later most of us are susceptible to the problem. But luckily, a better understanding of the root-cause can provide insights into ways to reduce bags under eyes, or to at least delay it.

As one gets older, bags under the eyes can become a permanent fixture. This is because as an individual ages, the muscle and skin structures in the face begin to weaken, and are no longer able to sufficiently hold up the fatty tissues around the eyes. Without the skin and muscle firmness, to hold up the fatty tissues, gravity begins to pull the fat downward, and this creates the appearance of bags under eyes.

Other reasons for under eye bags include:

  • Fluid retention due to changes in weather, hormone levels or eating too much salty foods.
  • Not getting enough sleep.
  • Allergies or dermatitis, especially if puffiness is accompanied by redness and itching.
  • Genetic.
  • Recurring sinus infections.
  • Bad sleeping postures. Due to gravity, sleeping on the side or stomach can encourage fluids to collect under the eyes.

People who wake up with puffy eyes should sleep on their back and add an extra pillow under their head.

Other everyday habits, including rubbing the eyes frequently, going to bed with makeup on, and excessive drinking, can contribute to under-eye bags, too. Sleeping with eye makeup on can irritate the eyes, causing fluids to pool. Heavy alcohol drinking causes dehydration. This weakens the delicate skin around the eyes, making it more likely to sink into a pouch. It is very important to rule out other possible causes that can contribute to the swelling, such as kidney or thyroid problems, infection, or an allergy.

What to do

  • Get adequate sleep at night. For most adults, seven to eight hours a night appears to be the best amount of sleep.
  • Sleep with your head slightly raised. Add an extra pillow or prop up the head of your mattress. This helps prevent fluids from accumulating around your eyes as you sleep.
  • Reduce allergy symptoms by knowing the triggering allergens. Talk to your dermatologist about prevention strategies if you develop under-eye reactions due to hair dyes, soaps, cosmetics or other allergens.
  • Do not smoke, and always apply a hypoallergenic sunscreen under the eye area. Smoking and exposure to UV rays both weaken collagen and cause premature sagging.
  • Apply a fragrance-free moisturiser to the delicate under eye area regularly.

Medical and surgical treatment

The various creams and sera claiming to do wonders by eliminating the under-eye bags have not proved to be that successful.

Laser resurfacing is useful in improving only the skin tone and firmness of the skin around and under the eyes. This tends to lessen the appearance of under-eye bags to some extent.

I’m not politically correct, I’m private: Priyanka

Priyanka Chopra rarely comments on her love life. She says it has nothing to do with being "politically correct".

Recently when the Bollywood's eligible bachelorette was asked why she has never stood up and spoken out against dating rumours.

"It's not because I am being politically correct. It's just that I'm a private person," said the 31-year-old. "I believe that I am putting 90 per cent of myself and my family life out in front of the public, I have every right to keep 10 per cent of it for myself," she added.

Priyanka, who is also an active member of online social networking platforms, says women always know "how much you want to tell".

"I am a girl and I have the right to keep my personal life personal," said the star of films like Dostana and Barfi!.

A session with Priyanka will be incomplete without a question of her marriage plans, and the story was similar at the conclave. She said: "When somebody who is worth asking me asks me about marriage, then I will see." The actress, who is also making a name for herself as a singer on the international music scene, is sure that she wants two key things in her prospective partner - "he should be my best friend and I should have 'aankhon ki sharam (a degree of respect)' in front of him". — IANS

Velvety touch

Ranbir Kapoor, who has a lover boy image in the industry with the kind of films he has done, gets an all-new image now with Bombay Velvet. The actor is gearing up to get tougher for his role in Anurag Kashyap's film which is a period drama. Ranbir will be seen playing an intense character and it required him to get a strong and rough physical appearance. He has worked a lot on transforming his body to make it look appropriate. The first shooting schedule of the film, which was happening in Sri Lanka is completed.

Now the team gears up for the next shoot schedule which will be starting in January. In this gap, Ranbir, who will be seen playing a very interesting character, has gone all out to work and shock the audience with his all new look. Also, the film is being made with a fresh combination, Ranbir-Anushka. It is also the first time Ranbir has worked with the director Anurag Kashyap.

Throwing lights on Bhatt’s new heroine

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who has introduced many new faces in Bollywood, will launchsx newbie Patralekha in his next production City Lights. The film tells the story of a family that migrates from a village to a city and Patralekha has got her nose pierced for the role.

Bhatt, who is currently in Rajasthan scouting locations for the film, said, "Patralekha got her nose pierced and bought a nose ring. Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. It is so easy for us to be mesmerized by glitz, glamour, and ephemeral beauty; building things that endure does not fire our imaginations." About the film, he added: "'City Lights is an extraordinary love story of ordinary people. India lives in her villages. This moving love story begins in the village and peaks in the city." The film is an official adaptation of Metro Manila, which is Britain's entry for next year's Oscars in the Best Foreign Language category.

When Antara met Prabhudeva

Singer Antara Mitra is currently riding high on the success of her two recent hits from the film R...Rajkumar. The songs—Saree Ke Fall Sa and Kaddu Katega— are rising high on the popularity charts. The man behind this film is none other than Michael Jackson of India Prabhudeva who directed Rajkumar. Recently the pretty singer Antara met the man himself in a studio.

Antara says, "Actually I was recording in a studio and the final mixing for the film was also happening there. So I saw Prabhu sir working and waited patiently for him and at the end we met and chatted for a brief period as he is extremely shy. He did mention about my songs in the film and praised me as he thought in two songs I was sounding very different. I hope in future also I sing in his film as Prabhudeva gives a different dimension to the song with his unique style of choreography."
