MC gears up to collect property tax:
With the last date of depositing the property tax approaching, the municipal corporation teams have become active. On Sunday, it collected Rs 3.25 lakh by conducting one such camp at Ward 51. Around 250 persons deposited their taxes on the basis of self-assessment formulae. As the last date of depositing the property tax with a rebate of 10 per cent approaches, the MC teams have been pressed into service to conduct awareness/collection camps on Sundays and gazetted holidays too. Around 250 residents deposited their taxes on the basis of self-assessment formulae in the camp held at Ward 51.

Encroachments removed in Dhobi Bazar:
Widespread encroachments in Dhobi Bazar were removed after shopkeepers lodged a complaint on Sunday. A heavy rush of people was witnessed around the Gurdwara Qila Mubarak and Dhobi Bazar on Gurpurb with a large number of people turning up to pay obeisance at the historic gurdwara.

CM inaugurates community health centre:
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal inaugurated a 30-bed community health centre at Fattudhinga in Sultanpur Lodhi built at a cost of Rs. 6.33 crore on Sunday. The CM also inaugurated a bridge at Nanakpur village built at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore on the Kapurthala-Fattudhinga road.

Lala Lajpat Rai's ancestral house in shambles:
The ancestral house of legendary freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai in Mohalla Misarpura of Jagraon has been lying in a shambles for the past several years due to the negligence by the government. The near-collapsing building of Lala Lajpat Rai's ancestral house has been crying for attention but neither the state government nor the Union Government seems to be worried.

Six cars impounded: The enforcement wing of the Municipal Corporation today impounded as many as six cars from the Sector 7 car bazaar as the cars were encroaching upon the government land without obtaining any license. The officials stated that notices were served to all to obtain the necessary permission or licenses but these six cars owners had failed to do so.

Engineering college awarded
: The Indo Global College of Engineering was awarded for “Excellent Industry Interface in Punjab” by Punjab Technical University. Manav Singla, CEO of Indo Global Colleges, said they got the award among 300 competitors. The award was presented to Sukhdev Kumar Singla, the chairman of the college. Singla said it was a matter of pride to receive the award for excellence.

Gurgaon
School owner kills self
: The owner of a private school in Gurgaon committed suicide by hanging himself last night. Body of Chitrekh Adlakha, owner of Adhlakha High School in Madanpuri, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a room in the school building. The autopsy report confirmed death on account of strangulation, but the cause of suicide was not known, the police said. Adlakha was last seen at his garment shop adjoining the school building. He sent the shop worker to run an errand and went into the school. He was associated with the Indian Youth Congress and contested unsuccessfully for the post of Municipal Councillor, Gurgaon, in the last election.

Youth killed in road mishap
: A youth, identified as Sukhbir Singh of Mubarikpur village here, was killed in a head-on collision between a jeep and a car on the National Highway No 71-A, near Kulana village, here last evening. The mishap took place when Sukhbir was coming back to the village from Rewari district in his jeep. As he reached near Kulani village, his jeep collided with the car coming from opposite direction. Sukhbir reportedly died on the spot.

Youth held on rape charge:
The police has arrested a Dalit youth, Pradeep (30), an employee of a cement factory at Charkhi Dadri town in Bhiwani district, on charges of kidnapping a teenaged Dalit girl (16), from Rattanthal village, 30 km from Rewari, on October 8. He kept the girl at various places and allegedly raped her repeatedly. The police also recovered the girl, who was medically examined in the Civil Hospital here on Thursday. Pradeep was produced in a local court on Friday, which remanded him in judicial custody. Section 376 (rape) was added to the FIR registered earlier for abduction on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother.

Wrestling championship:
The Haryana Olympic Association and Haryana Wrestling Federation will jointly organise All-India Chaudhary Ranbir Singh Memorial Wrestling Championship (Bharat Kesri) at Rohtak on November 26. The first prize will carry cash award of Rs 21 lakh and the second and third prizes will be of Rs 11 lakh and five lakh, respectively.The Bharat Kesri award will be given to the winner of more than 84 kg weight category. The awards will be given by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

: Kirti, a resident of Rajlu Garhi village in Sonepat district, has topped Kurukshetra University in the four-year Bachelor in Hotel Management and Catering degree course, securing 73.3 per cent marks

2 brick-kiln workers killed: Two brick-kiln labourers were killed and a motorcycle-borne couple was injured when they were knocked down by a four-wheeler between Bhainswal Kalan and Farmana villages on the Gohana-Kharkhoda road on Thursday night. Sources said Satbir of Barota village and his wife Priyanka were returning to their village on a motorcycle when they were knocked down by a four-wheeler coming from the opposite direction. While trying to flee the spot, the four-wheeler driver also knocked down two labourers, Rajesh and Panna Lal, of Bihar. Rajesh died on the spot and Panna Lal succumbed to his injuries on way to the Women’s Medical College, Khanpur Kalan. Priyanka was admitted to the Medical College in a serious condition. The police has booked the unidentified driver.-
