HC sets 1-month deadline
Chandigarh, November 15 The directions came on a petition filed in public interest by the Mohali Industry and Commerce Association against the state of Punjab, Mohali Municipal Corporation and Punjab Pollution Control Board. The association told the Bench of Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Augustine George Masih that industrial waste of the town was being dumped into the rivulet at Sector 74. Seeking the indulgence of the court for preventing the pollution, the petitioner had asserted that the waste had completely clogged the water body. The counsel for the petitioner added that a legal notice was also sent on July 27 to the Mohali Municipal Corporation, followed by another notice to the Punjab Pollution Control Board on October 3. Taking up the matter, the Bench asserted: "At this stage, we consider it appropriate to direct that the notices/representations addressed to the authorities be disposed of by a speaking order within a maximum period of one month of receipt of the order." Already, the Punjab Government has issued notices to those encroaching upon or causing obstruction by carrying out constructions on the banks of the seasonal rivulet. A notification was issued by the state government in March this year, authorising the Ropar executive engineer to act against encroachers. The executive engineer and his team were, rather, vested with the responsibility to get the obstructions removed to ensure the free flow of the rivulet. The High Court was, during the hearing of the matter, told that the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) and the Nayagaon Notified Area Committee (NAC) had identified 606 encroachments on the seasonal rivulet. While GMADA had identified 124 encroachments on Patiala Ki Rao, Nayagaon NAC had identified 482 encroachments. The High Court had earlier told the authorities to save Patiala Ki Rao. Last May, the High Court had stayed all kinds of constructions on Patiala Ki Rao passing through Nada village, Nayagaon and Karoran. |

An era coming to an end
Chandigarh, November 15 Never earlier, like today, the local roads went dry of vehicles, everybody watching a cricket match at the same time and every buff went down to emotions when the master blaster lost his wicket. The roar might have ended today but its echo will remain there forever. The perfectly timed 12 boundaries from his wooden willow made the audience, witnessing his last match, to shell their heart out just to say one word ‘Sachin’ and only ‘Sachin’. His end to the excellent cricket career of 24 years, made every eye express that he will be missed. And yes, the master of strokes, the God of cricket, even in his last match stands by why he is called ‘The Sachin Tendulkar’. “Cricket will remain a dumb affair without Sachin. There is no team in the world or cricket player that has not appreciated him and his skills over the years. Hats off to him and thanks a ton for entertaining us,” said Amit Mittal, a local resident. “There is happiness inside my heart that he played a master’s innings and sadness that he won’t be playing anymore for the nation. His achievements can be achieved but no one can attain the stature, the respect and the support that he has from the people of India,” said Surinder Singh Baijee, honorary secretary of the Haryana Cricket Association. “No one can take his place. He is a living legend and he should remain in touch with cricket in one way or another. IPL, expert, commentator, selector in any form he should bless the upcoming generation with his presence. I wanted him to play his last test match here, as he had some good past records in the city as well,” said Harish Sharma, cricket coach at Sector 16. It has never happened and surely will never happen again that for these 74 runs, scored by Sachin Tendulkar in the first innings of his last test match, every Indian had emotions attached to it. sachin, an inspiration "I am fortunate that I am born in the country which Sachin represented for 24 years. He has proved to be the biggest brand ambassador for the country. He deserves all the attention he is getting on his retirement" —ALIM, A FAN"He was and will remain my favourite player. With his performance, he has set the bar for excellence. I think every one of us aspires to become Sachin in our respective professions."— PARAS, A FAN"He is undoubtedly the biggest player of the century and he deserves all the attention but the hype around his retirement is not justified. Every news channel is going overboard on Sachin for the sake of TRPs."— Aman, a fan
