Barnala
3 persons killed in two accidents
: Three persons were killed in two separate road mishaps that took place on Barnala-Bathinda road near Khudi Khurd village on Wednesday. In the first accident, a truck and a Bolero vehicle collided, killing Shiv Lal (40) of Bikaner in Rajasthan on the spot. In the second mishap, two occupants of an Indica Vista car died when it rammed into a truck. The deceased have been identified as Hardam Singh (35) of Dunewala village and Ramesh Kumar (40) of Masana village. Cases have been registered.

20-year-old girl found murdered: The body of a 20-year-old girl from Sekha village near Barnala was reportedly found outside her house on Tuesday night. She had gone missing on Tuesday morning. The girl was a student at a nursing college in Barnala. A case has been registered and the body has been sent for a postmortem

Fatehgarh Sahib
Lawyers strike work:
Members of the District Bar Association, Fatehgarh Sahib, suspended work to protest against amendment in the Rent Act. The lawyers, led by Narinder Tiwana, president, District Bar Association, held a dharna at the entrance to the district courts.

NFL engineer dies in mishap:
An engineer of National Fertiliser Limited (NFL) died after he slipped from a boiler in the factory here on Tuesday. The deceased identified as Dhanwan Singh (29) of Uttar Pradesh slipped and fell down from a boiler that he had climbed to repair. He died at DMC Hospital in Ludhiana on Wednesday. An inquiry into the incident has been marked.

Body of college student found:
The body of Anmolpreet Kaur, a Patran resident, has been found from Bhakra Canal near Khanouri village on Wednesday. Anmolpreet, a BSc-I student, had been missing since November 9. The police has registered a case against one of her friends for abetment of suicide on the complaint of the deceased's parents.

Ropar man gets life for murder:
The District and Sessions Court has awarded life sentence to Ankur, a resident of Nuhon Colony, for killing a 22-year-old youth here on Wednesday. The deceased, Satwant Singh alias Sunny, was stabbed to death on June 20 last year. Gurjant Singh, father of the deceased, had complained to the police that Ankur along with three others, Amandeep Singh Kaintha, Jain Singh and Monty had attacked his son with sharp-edged weapons.

Football trials postponed: The UT Education Department has postponed the trials for selecting football team of boys (U-19) that will take part in the upcoming 59th National School Games. The trials were scheduled to be held on November 14 at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22. The new date will be announced later.

Bodybuilder strikes gold: Local bodybuilder Puneet Sandhu has brought laurels to the city by becoming the overall champion at the North India Body Building Championship. The team representing the Chandigarh bagged one gold, one silver and two bronze Medals. Puneet bagged gold in the 85-kg category. Dharminder won silver in the 65-kg category event, and body builders Suraj and Rakesh won bronze in 75-kg and 90-kg respectively. 

Local team in hockey final: The local team of Chandigarh Hockey Academy has reached the final of Nehru Cup Hockey Championship for Boys (U-17). In the semifinal held at New Delhi today, the team defeated the team of PNB 4-2. In the final, the local boys will face Odisha.

Man gets four-year RI in NDPS case:
The local court today announced four years rigorous imprisonment to a person in a NDPS case, here. The accused, Chetan from Malout, who was nabbed by the police with four kg opium at Jagatpura village on January 21, 2009, has been awarded four years sentence and a fine of Rs 40,000 by the local court.
