Gurgaon villagers go on rampage after two students die in mishap
Tribune News Service

Gurgaon, November 6
Residents of Lakhuwas village, Dhohla, along with students of a local engineering college went on the rampage when two students were killed and another critically injured after a speeding dumper hit their motorcycle on the Sohna-Palwal road.

Angry villagers along with students of the World Institute of Technology (WIT) blocked the road and pelted vehicles with stones. They set a police vehicle on fire in protest against delay in providing help to the victims.

Mohit along with his cousin Chaman, both 19, were headed to the college to invite their friends for a marriage in the family on November 20 when the accident occurred. The two were killed on the spot while their classmate Vivek was critically injured and is undergoing treatment at Artemis hospital.

The dumper driver fled the scene prompting villagers to block the road. They were soon joined by college students who pelted vehicles with stones. When the police tried to intervene, they set a police vehicle on fire accusing them of turning a blind eye to the dumper menace. The villagers kept the bodies on the road and staged a protest.

“It’s not the first incident involving dumpers. In the name of action, the police has deployed only a single vehicle, which is not enough to check the menace,” said a member of Lakhuwas panchayat.

The two-hour chaos led to inconvenience to commuters as well as faculty and students of nearby Apeejay University. ACP Hitesh Yadav said the police had impounded the dumper and the driver was at large.
