Spurious khoya floods Kalka markets
Our Correspondent

Kalka, October 28
As the festival of lights is drawing near, quintals of spurious Khoya is being supplied in Kalka, putting the health of people on stake.

Official sources of the Railway Department confirmed that synthetic Khoya is being supplied from Mujaffar Nagar (UP), Delhi. The Khoya is being supplied though Delhi-Kalka passengers’ train no. 54303, which reaches Kalka at around 1.30 am and is delivered to the sweet sellers of Kalka, Pinjore and Baddi, Himachal Pardesh.

It seems that the Health Department is unaware of the supply of the unhealthy khoya, the delivery of which is received by leading sweets sellers of the area during the night hours. Same practice was also followed three years ago, when the Health Department seized several tones of contaminated Khoya from the local market.

The experts opined that such type of Khoya, from which the sweets are prepared, is injurious to health. They said that the Health Department should immediately take samples of the Khoya.

Due to the festive season, the preparations of sweets are in full swing in the area, the department should take stern steps in this regard to stop the unhealthy practice.

Tribune News Service

Mohali, October 28
In yet another case of theft of medicines from godowns, the miscreants have taken away medicines worth around Rs 9 lakh from Wallace Pharma at Zirakpur.

According to the victim, Surinder Singh Kwatra, the thieves have targeted the expensive medicines and took away 50 cases of stomach ache and cold tablets.

“The cost of the stolen medicines is around nine lakh,” said Kwatra.

The incident occurred on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The matter came to light today, when the godown was opened in the morning.

The thieves made a hole in the wall of the adjoining building of the godown and entered from the roof door, said Kwatra.

The police has registered a case in this regard at the Zirakpur police station.

RISE IN THEFT CASES
With the fourth major theft of medicines from godowns in the past five to six months reported, the businessmen are up in arms over the failure of police in solving the cases. Amit Jain, president of C & F Association, Zirakpur, said the thieves earlier targeted the godowns of Johnson and Johnson and JB Chemicals. “They are certainly very professional as they steal expensive and easily saleable medicines. Our area witnesses one major theft in a month on an average and the loss runs over Rs 8 lakh every time,” said Jain. He said they had been employing the same modus operandi of making hole in wall to enter the premises which indicated that all thefts were the handiwork of the same gang.

Sandesh Jhingan

Chandigarh, October 28
Few possess the courage to carve a niche for themselves and even fewer have the capability to continue with the achiever’s tag.

For 20-year-old local footballer Sandesh Jhingan, life exists around a ground and a football. He asks for nothing more and nothing less than that. And it is this passion for the game that the footballer is all set to debut in the first Indian Super Football League Championship.

He will be the first ever player from the city to feature in the auction of players for the upcoming international super league. The tournament will be conducted by corporate house IMG Reliance.

In his recent feat, Sandesh made it to the final squad of the Indian soccer team for SAFF games. He has also signed a contract with IMG Reliance.

Jhingan has also played as a right sweeper (stopper back) with the Sikkim United Club. The club is a venture of the former Indian soccer skipper, Baichung Bhutia. He was the playing member of the Chandigarh (U-19) team that won the Dr BC Roy Trophy for boys, for the first time in the history of the local football.

“I am looking to bag a good franchise in the auction. A handsome amount will be attractive and the exposure will be priceless,” said the dedicated player.

The auction will probably take place next month and I am very excited about it, said Sandesh.

Prior to this, he was also selected to attend the All-India Football Federation’s (AIFF) Indian senior team preparatory camp. But, unfortunately, because of his ligament injury, he had to come back home.

“I will continue to work hard. The senior camp was my base to create my identity and so far, I am happy that things are going as planned,” said Sandy, as he is fondly called by his friends.

The soccer player has achieved this feat after giving his best on the field. It was his perfect skills on the ground during his stint during the Dr BC Roy Football Trophy that made the national selectors select him.

Even the tough times could not take a toll on him, a fractured ankle, and knee-ligament injury could not deter his passion for the game.

“It was a tough time. My only fear in life is to never be able to play the game again in my life,” said Sandesh.

“Surya, my practice mate and my brother, is the only striker, I find hard to tackle. Rest, I can perform any task on this ground. It was my dream to play for a club, to play for a senior side,” said Sandesh.

“Now, I am looking forward to make it big in the world of soccer,” said Sandy, while also giving credits to his elder brother, Sahaj, because of whom he realised that capabilities and passion know no bounds. This is my life and I am determined to make it big, said the soccer player.
