Old woman commits suicide 

Phagwara: An old woman Mahinder Kaur reportedly committed suicide by setting herself on fire after sprinkling kerosene oil on her clothes, here last night. She was brought to the civil hospital where she succumbed to her burn injuries. The body of the deceased was handed over to her family members. 

Man held with 500 gm of heroin

Patiala: An Amritsar resident Talwinderjit Singh was held with 500 gm of heroin worth Rs 2.5 crore in Rajpura on Tuesday. Rajpura Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhupinder Khatra said the accused had tried to flee when he was signalled to stop his vehicle. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered. —TNS
