4.75 crore saplings to be planted:
Forest and Wildlife Minister Chunni Lal Bhagat has said under the Greener Punjab Mission, 4.75 crore saplings would be planted in the state during 2013-14. Presiding over a meeting of the department to review the progress of the mission, the minister said Punjab being a predominantly agricultural state had less than 7 per cent of its area under forest/tree cover, resulting in severe environmental and ecological degradation.

Exemption for units in approved areas: The state government has announced to exempt factories located or to be set up in approved areas from getting site clearance from the State Competent Authority-cum-State Appraisal Committee. Under the new policy, the exemption would be extended to those units to be set up in industrial area, industrial estate, industrial focal points, approved industries park, industrial zone of the master plan or draft master plan.

Youth ends life:
Bhagat Singh Yadav (30), who consumed poison, died on way to the PGIMS, Rohtak. The police recovered a suicide note from his pocket, which cited his wife’s illicit relations with Sandeep Kumar as the reason for the suicide. On the complaint of the deceased’s father Raghuvir Singh Yadav, the police has booked the deceased’s wife, her alleged paramour and advocate Kusum Yadav for abetment to the suicide.
