Rajinder is ADGP, rights commission
: The Punjab Government on Friday transferred an IPS and a PPS officer. Rajinder Singh has been posted as Additional Director-General of Police, Punjab State Human Rights Commission, against a vacant post while Amarpreet Singh has been posted as Assistant Commandant, Fifth Commando, BN, Bahadurgarh, Patiala, on administrative grounds.

BBMB upgrades hydro power unit
: The Bhakhra Beas Management Board has upgraded its 108 MW hydro generating unit of Bhakra Left Bank to 126 MW. This was the second upgradation in the series of 5 units. The BBMB has thus enhanced the capacity of each unit by 40 per cent which is the highest in the world reported so far. The first unit was upgraded in July this year.

Youth, beloved commit suicide
: A 22-year-old youth from Dehlewal village (Bhawanigarh) and a 30-year-old woman from Thuhi village (Nabha) on Friday allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance. Sanjiv Goyal, Station House Officer, Bhawanigarh police station, said both were found lying along a road in Dehlewal village. While the boy died on the spot, the woman was taken to the Civil Hospital, Nabha, where she died. The SHO said they committed suicide since their families were opposed to their love affair.

Man gets 1-yr jail for illegal drug sale: The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Sangrur, has awarded one-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 6,000 to Gurjant Singh of Nagra village in the district for selling medicines without licence at his shop in the village. District Drug Inspector Santosh Kumar said the medicines had been seized from Gurjant Singh's unlicenced shop about four years ago.

Couple hurt as bike hits DC's car: A couple was injured when the motorcycle they were riding on hit the car of Barnala Deputy Commissioner on the Sangrur-Barnala road on Friday. Malkiat Singh and his wife Surinder Kaur were taken to the Sangrur Civil Hospital from where they were referred to to Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala.

Dasehra celebrated
: Students of DAV Model School, Sector 15, celebrated Dasehra with religious fervour. Children presented a skit, depicting the life Lord Rama and his battle with Ravana. The event gave the message of the triumph of good over evil.

Fancy dress competition marks Dasehra celebrations
:A fancy dress competition was organised at Century Public School, Naya Gaon, to celebrate Dasehra. Students of classes from Nursery to Upper Kindergarten participated in the competition. The students came dressed as Lord Rama, Mata Sita Hanuman, Ravana and other characters of Ramayana. Students of these classes also performed various cultural items.

Junior teachers felicitated
: The Junior Teachers’ Association felicitated their colleagues in a ceremony held at Town Hall here on Friday. In all, 52 junior teachers from across the state were honoured for their exemplary service in the field of education. Rajpur MLA Rajkumar and Raipur MLA Umesh Sharma were the chief guests of the function while the programme was presided over by Prabhulal Bahuguna.The teachers raised concerns over the usage of the services of teachers in fields other than education and asserted unanimously that the practise should be done away with.

Robber arrested: The Rishikesh police has arrested the man who allegedly broke into the house of an elderly woman and also tried to kill her on Wednesday. The police has also recovered the looted valuables from his possession.
