State can outdo Gujarat any day: Shakeel
Tribune News service

Chandigarh, October 6
Crediting the BJP for its one and only contribution of the “India Shining” slogan, Congress general secretary and Haryana affairs in charge Shakeel Ahmed said the Congress party, in contrast, had brought a number of public-welfare initiatives which were unparalleled.

Addressing a press conference with Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and party secretary Asha Kumari here today, Ahmed said: “Our party brought the Right to Information, MGNREGA, the Food Security Act and the Land Acquisition legislation. The BJP cannot name one public-interest initiative during its term at the Centre.”

“Haryana can outdo the Gujarat model any day given the many scores the Congress government in the state has. Besides, BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s hollow claims stand exposed with the latest report pointing out that every third child in Gujarat is malnourished. What’s more, the latest report released by the RBI places BJP-ruled Chhatisgharh and Madhya Pradesh at 26 and 25 positions, respectively among 28 states. The BJP has no moral standing to talk about development. Besides, the BJP claims that Goa is number one. I can only remind them that the state was at the same position during Congress rule not so long ago,” he said.

Announcing a ‘mahakumbh’ to be held at Gohana on November 10, Hooda said the venue was particularly chosen for the rally. “When I took over as the president of the state unit of the party, we began our struggle against the then government from Gohana,” he said.

‘Yet to go through Rao’s reply’

In response to a question on whether he had received a copy of the reply by Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit, Ahmed said he had been informed last evening that a reply had come from the MP. “I am yet to go through it. We had not given him a notice but had sought his clarification on his status after his rally. He had said he would not fight the next election on a Congress ticket. Since there was no denial from him on the media reports, we decided to seek his clarification,” he said.

Mandi Adampur (Hisar), October 6

Bishnoi flanked by state BJP president Ram Bilas Sharma and Prof Ganesh Lal at the dais before the launch of the yatra.

Joshi said it was unfortunate that honest officials were being hounded while ‘corrupt’ officials were getting rewards. “Corruption is the main reason behind rising prices and also a major stumbling block in development. A number of scams, including spectrum and coal blocks allocation, sports, irrigation and Railways, has come to light during scrutiny by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament. But the government tried to silence our voice. Files go missing, but the Prime Minister keeps a conspicuous silence. A lot of questions remain unanswered,” said Joshi.

Opposing the acquisition of land, the former minister said farmers were being deprived of their lone source of income in the name of industrialisation and setting up of SEZs. “The development should not be done at the cost of farmers’ livelihood,” he said.

Opposing talks with Pakistan, he said: “Talks are no solution to the cross-border problem. Stop talking and give a befitting reply to Pakistan.”

Speaking on the occasion, Bishnoi, who rode the rath to cover all 90 Assembly constituencies in the next 57 days, said: “While most of the leaders of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) are in jail for their misdeeds, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, too, would end up in jail for his corrupt deeds.”

Posing a perfect picture of coordination, leaders of the BJP and HJC sought to put an end to speculations of any rift between them.

Joshi and other state BJP leaders, including state president Ram Bilas Sharma, national spokesperson Capt Abhimanyu, MLA Krishan Pal Gurjar, former minister Ganeshi Lal and former MP Sudha Yadav reiterated that the alliance with the HJC was firm.

Among HJC leaders, Bishnioi’s mother and former MLA Jasma Devi, his wife and MLA Renuka Bishnoi, former Deputy CM Chander Mohan, former MPs Ramji Lal and DP Malik, media in charge Devi Lal, state secretary Yoginder Nath Mahotra were present.

Joshi said, “Bishnoi and Sharma are two wheels of the rath.” He said the alliance would form the next government in Haryana as people were fed up with the ruling Congress. "If we form the next government in Haryana, we will review all land acquisitions," Sharma said.
