Two minor girls missing
Fatehgarh Sahib, September 30 “The police conducted a raid at the house of the boy, but even he was found to be missing,” said the father of the girl. An FIR has been lodged at the Khamano police station. Officer incharge Harjit Singh, Khamano, said, “We are looking into the matter. Investigations are on.” In another incident, a 16-year-old girl, a resident of Peer Colony, Sirhind, studying at a college in Fatehgarh Sahib, ran away from her house. Station house officer, Sirhind, said, “Father of the girl lodged an FIR with the police, stating that his daughter left the house last evening. And took away Rs 50,000 and her belongings as well.” The father of the girl alleged that someone might have lured her to take such action. Preliminary investigations show that the girl was at Bahadurgarh village last night. The police has registered a case under Sections 363 and 366-A of the IPC. — OC |

Zirakpur, September 30 The incident occurred on September 26. Kumar was undergoing treatment at PGI, Chandigarh, where he succumbed to the injuries ,sustained due to the electrical shock, on Sunday. The police has registered a case against the contractor, Suman Kumar. The body of the deceased has been handed over to his relatives after conducting the post-mortem. |
Dera chief granted more time
Chandigarh, September 30 The date was postponed after the Haryana Police submitted before the High Court that law and order problem could not be ruled out, if the Dera chief was to appear in the Panchkula Court on October 5, owing to Navratras at the Mansa Devi shrine. The High Court made it clear that Guru Ram Rahim Singh would have to appear after October 22. The date will be decided by the special CBI court. |

Chandigarh, September 30 Home Guard Jatinder recalled the horrifying incident and told court that he was attacked by the accused policeman, Basant, and had a struggle for about 10 minutes. During the time, Inspector Sucha Singh was being stabbed and how the accused couple fled in the police gypsy. Constable Anil told the court that he was threatened with a gun by the accused. Mohali, September 30 The police acted on a complaint of another Mohali-based industrialist, Navneet Saxena. He alleged that Sushil Sharma and Ashutosh Sharma, directors of Summit Engineering Private Limited and Lider Sanitation, had fled to Canada after duping him and three others—Mukesh Bansal, Rakesh Bansal and Davinder Rattan—of Rs 6 crore. Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said on the basis on an inquiry, a case under Sections 406, 420, 465, 471 and 120-B of the IPC was registered. Saxena has alleged that the duo and Bhavana, who resides in Mansa Devi Complex, had defrauded several people, including a bank, of Rs 55 crores. They had taken the money for business growth in September last year, promising to repay within six months. Sushil Sharma is reportedly absconding for over a month and a half. The bank has reportedly taken possession of his industrial units and house. Sushil was also the president of Rotary Club, Mohali, in the year 2012-13. |

Convicts jump parole

Chandigarh, September 30 The UT police has now issued a look-out notice and announced a reward of Rs 50,000 on the three convicts. The convicts include Sukhwinder Singh, alias Sukhi, Sompal and Harpreet Singh, alias Dalli. All the accused belong to Haryana. On September 28, 2008, the three, along with two accomplices, had abducted and raped a German woman. The five were sentenced to life imprisonment after a speedy trial in January 2009. The convicts had appealed against the judgment. During a hearing of the appeal filed by Harpreet, who was lodged in Patiala Jail, it came to light that he jumped parole. Also the other two did not report back to Burail Jail and Faridkot Jail. |

Panchkula, September 30 Vigilance officials said accused Rajiv Bajaj, who works as a notary, told the victim, Vimal, to pay Rs 25,000 for getting the documents by Tuesday. Vimal had contacted a registery clerk, Jaibir, who further referred him to Bajaj. Vimal complained to the vigilance department, following which a trap was laid. Mohali: The Vigilance Bureau today registered a case against an executive engineer of the Punjab Irrigation Department for accumulating assets disproportionate to his income. “A complaint of corruption was made against Jaswinder Singh, following which we conducted an inquiry. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act,” said a senior official of the bureau. The accused is yet to be arrested. |

Rape charges slapped on father-in-law

Mohali, September 30 The police arrested 62-year-old Kulbir Singh and his daughter, Jasbir Kaur, following a complaint by his daughter-in-law, Maninder Kaur (42), in which she alleged that she was being harassed and molested by her father-in-law. Inspector Navin Pal Singh Lehal, station house officer, said Sections 376 and 511 of the IPC had been added to the FIR against the accused after receiving the complainant’s medical report. “During the medical examination, injury marks were found on the complainant’s private parts,” said the SHO. Maninder Kaur, a green-card holder of the USA, got married to Kulbir Singh’s son Satbir Singh in 2010. Maninder alleged that her husband had gone to the USA in May. When the complainant went to the USA on September 8, she could not locate her husband. “When I came back to India on September 15, my father-in-law started misbehaving with me and harassing me for dowry,” alleged the complainant. Today, the court sent Kulbir Singh to a one-day remand under police custody, while Jasbir Kaur was sent to judicial custody. |

PSB win hockey tournament
Chandigarh, September 30 In the final match, the Punjab and Sindh Bank faced some resistance before winning the final match against the Punjab National Bank (PNB) by 5-3 (via tie-breaker) held at the Hockey Stadium of Sports Complex, Sector 42, 43rd SN Vohra's All-India Gurmit Memorial Hockey Tournament. The match ended at 2-2 draw at the stipulated time and unlike other matches players of both teams failed to score in early minutes. The match was played on a higher note and the match witnessed all field goals. In the 23rd minute, the PSB scored the lead through Karamjit Singh, who managed to dribble past the defense line before posting the first goal. But in reply, the PNB side levelled the score through Yudhvir Singh, who smartly dodged the rival's custodian before striking the wooden plank in the 30th minute. Later, in the second half, the PNB side took an essential lead, when Damandeep scored the second goal in the 37th minute. Again a field goal, Damandeep scored the lead with a solo effort. Chandigarh, September 30 The AIFF side entirely dominated the 90 minutes of the game while the CFA lads put their best efforts to stop the superiors. But it seemed that the lack of experience cost them the match. With this win, the AIFF side bagged a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh while the CFA lads bagged the second prize of Rs 1 lakh. Since the starting whistle, the AIFF side pressured the CFA’s defense. The CFA side had a narrow escape in the 7th minute when a power-pack shot by Miland Basumatary hit the cross bar. Half-back Bidyananda Singh, taking full advantage of the rebound, again diverted the ball to nets but Custodian Arshdeep saved the team. The wake-up alarm for the local side helped to build an attack in the 16th minute. Jatinder of the CFA with his ace shot tested the AIFF goalie Sayantan Pyne. But the alert custodian punched the ball over the cross bar. The shocker came in the 45th minute, when Bidyananda directed the ball (on a long throw) at the top of penalty area and alerted the CFA custodian. But in his efforts to clear the ball, he gave a rebound chance to the AIFF striker and making no mistake, Hayden Fernandes netted the ball with a brilliant half-volley shot. After the breather, the CFA side was expected to bounce back but again lack of ball-possession and no efforts to pressurise the rival’s defense made the team to fall on back foot.
