3 youths held for ‘killing’ friend
Ropar, September 26 The accused - identified as Vishal, Gursewak alias Rancho and Neelu, all residents of Chamkaur Sahib, - told the police that they killed the victim and threw his body in the Sirhind canal to offer a sacrifice to god. Vishal had close relations with family members of the deceased. Anmol had left the house on the evening of September 19 saying that he was going to attend a ‘jagran’, but he did not return. Later, his family members started receiving phone calls for ransom and a case was registered under Section 363, IPC. Vishal, who used to claim that he possessed supernatural powers even feigned helping the vicitim’s family in searching him and even offered money to his father for paying ransom for his release. Ropar Superintendent of Police (SP) Inder Mohan Bhatti said Vishal was making advances towards the sister of Anmol and he objected over the same. Annoyed over it, Vishal decided to kill him. Following this, he involved Neelu in the crime, who was reeling under debt, assuring the latter that offering a sacrifice to god in such a way would bring prosperity, said Bhatti. On September 19, the accused allegedly asked the deceased to join them for the sacrifice at Chamkaur Sahib. There, at the house of Vishal they killed him attacking with a sickle on his head, he said. They threw his body in the Sirhind canal from the bridge on the Chamkaur Sahib-Bela road. After killing him, they started making calls to the family for ransom by using the victim’s mobile phone, he said. The accused on the other hand, feigned helping the victim’s family in searching him, the SP added. |
Road rage: Youth convicted of murder
Chandigarh, September 26 The incident occurred on September 21, 2008, when convict Vishal Sharma, who was in an inebriated state, stabbed Nitin Bansal to death. The police had registered a case of murder against him on a complaint lodged by the victim's friend, Rahul Bajaj, who was accompanying him along with their friend Sidakjot Singh. The incident took place late at night on the day when Vishal, along with his two friends, was coming from the Sector 15 market in Sidakjot's Skoda Octavia car (PB-10-BK-7177) and stopped at the Sector 15 and 16 traffic lights waiting for the signal to turn green. A Tata Indica car (HR-03-J-0257), which was ahead of their car, did not move when the signal turned green. They kept on honking but the car did not move and the signal turned red again. At the same time, the occupant of the Indica car came out and began hurling abuses at them. When the signal again turned green, he moved his car a little further and stopped it. An argument ensued when Vishal, who was in an inebriated state, took out a dagger from the car and stabbed Nitin in his waist and head, leaving him profusely bleeding. Sidakjot intervened to save Nitin, but he was also attacked. The police had recovered some sharp-edged weapons from Vishal's car. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on September 28. The court also awarded a 30-month jail term to two youths. A penalty of Rs 4,500 was also imposed on the duo, Rahul Bajaj and Sidakjot Singh. They have been convicted for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons (324) and voluntarily causing grievous hurt (325) of the Indian Penal Code. On the complaint of murder convict Vishal Sharma, who had accused Rahul Bajaj and Sidakjot Singh of attacking him and injuring him, awarded the imprisonment to the youths. |

Youth gets 10-yr jail for raping minor
Panchkula, September 26 On the pretext of taking her to a nearby village, the youth, identified as Shahzad Ansari, raped her. It was in November 2012, when Ansari told the victim that her mother was calling her but took her at the back side of a private school and committed the crime. The victim told her family about the incident, following which the mother of the victim had lodged a complaint at the Pinjore police station. A case under the relevant Sections of the IPC was registered.—TNS |

Gold jewellery worth ~6 lakh stolen
Panchkula, September 26 The accused asked the salesmen to show latest designs in jewellery and pocketed a packet of gold rings, chain and other items. Owner Vimal Verma informed the police and a case under Section 380 of the IPC has been registered at Sector 14 police station. Youth commits suicide
A resident of Surajpur village, Amit, committed suicide by jumping in front of the Himalayan Queen Train this evening. Reportedly, after the incident, he was taken to the Chandimandir Railway Station on the same train from where he was rushed to the General Hospital of Sector 6. CFA book berth in semifinals
Chandigarh, September 26 In today’s match, the experienced side of the AIFF got better of Dalbir Football Academy, Patiala, by 4-1.The defence line of the AIFF was tested today but low on stamina and experience the Patiala side failed to find goals. Striker Bidyananda scripted team’s lead in the very initial minutes of the match. Taking full advantage of an awarded free-kick, he posted the first goal through a powerful left-footer in the 2nd minute. After a few minutes, the AIFF side again got a chance to take the lead-with an awarded penalty kick and Bidyananda made it 2-0 with ease. With two down in first five minutes of the play, the Dalbir lads tightened their studs and reduced the lead with a collective effort. Minku Kumar beautifully trapped a long pass from left-wing and netted the ball in the 14th minute. At 2-1, the AIFF half line started holding the ball and changed their formation with a half-back supporting defence line. The team soon recovered and posted the third goal through Bidyananda in the 40th minute. After the lemon break, Delbert of the AIFF scored the final goal for his team in the 90th minute. The second match between the Sambalpur Football Academy, Odisha, and DAV Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh, ended in a goal less draw. In the third match, the Army Boys, Patna, hammered the Chandigarh Football Association by a big margin of 7-0. Saroj Rai and Lakhi Basra scored three goals each while Sharad Pradhan contributed one goal in team’s win. In the last match, the Mahilpur Football Academy thrashed Panasonik Football Academy by 16-0. Gurchet Singh scored seven goals, Sukhbir Singh scored three goals, Manjinder contributed two goals while Gurpinder Singh, Sukhjinder Singh, Ranjodh Singh and Mehtab Singh scored a goal each. |
Air India beat Delhi team by 78 runs
Chandigarh, September 26 The DDCA side invited Air India to bat first and the latter posted 297 runs in the allotted slot of 50 overs. Sachin rana scored an unbeaten knock of 110 runs. The team started their campaign on good note with adding 79 runs for the first wicket. Manvinder Bisla was the first to go for 23 runs and later joined Mohd Kaif only added 6 runs before getting caught by Nitish Rana. For the third wicket, Abhimanyu and Deepak Joon added 63 runs before Abhimanyu was caught by Behaira off A Gomel for 85 off 104 balls inclusive of 9 boundaries. Thereafter, Sachin Rana contributed a major share of 110 off 60 balls studded with 10 boundaries and 7 sixes. For the bowling side, Nitish Rana claimed 2 for 69. In reply, the DDCA team lost opener Gomel without opening any account. Next batman, Aditya Kaushik and Samarath Singh added 98 runs for the second wicket before Aditya was caught by Bisla off Pradeep Prashar for 27 runs. Chandigarh, September 26 For the winning side, Raminder scored the first goal in the 24th minute while Sukhmeet doubled the lead in the 27th minute. Later, for the CRPF, Bikas (40th minute) and Harkesh (52nd minute) reduced the margin. In the second match, the Indian Air Force defeated Namdhari XI by 3- 2. The Air force side maintained some early lead with Lavdeep (6th minute) and Jatinder (11th minute) scored a goal each. In the 15th minute Naveen reduced the margin for Namdharui side.
