Health Dept clerical staff call off strike
Ludhiana, September 25
Though the strike of the Punjab Health Department Subordinate Offices’ Clerical Association ended late on Wednesday evening, those visiting the Civil Surgeon’s office during the day remained at the receiving end for the sixth consecutive day today.
Applicants were not able to get death and birth certificates, drug licenses, handicapped certificates and medical certificates required for new jobs.

12 more test positive for dengue
Ludhana, September 25
Twelve more patients tested positive for dengue at Christian Medical College and Hospital and Guru Teg Bahadur Charitable Hospital today.
Out of these, six patients are from Ludhiana district. Two patients are from Tibba Road, one each from Gurubagh Colony, Jandali, Dhandari, Industrial Area, Basti Lohara, Khanna and Dhandran. Two patients are from Mundian. The remaining six patients belong to Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Sangrur, Patiala and Fathegarh Sahib. With this, the number of dengue patients in the district has reached 70.
Mystery shrouds newlywed’s death
Ludhiana, September 25
The police has booked husband and in-laws of a newlywed woman who died under mysterious circumstances at a shanty near Jagraon Bridge today.
Reema (18) was allegedly being harassed by the accused for dowry. The police has registered a case of murder under Section 302 of the IPC against the victim's husband Ravi, mother-in-law Premo and father-in-law Som Nath.

The man whose body was found from a
canal at Barewal yesterday, was murdered, said the police. The police
identified the victim and a case of murder was registered against
unidentified persons. The victim, 31-year-old Manjeet Singh, aka Bobby,
a resident of the Shimlapuri area, was missing since September 20.
Bobby's relatives said he was in debt and had borrowed Rs 2 lakh.
Bains group to boycott meetings convened by Gohalwaria

(Badal) as the Bains group has openly announced that it would boycott all meetings convened by Mayor Harcharan Singh
Gohalwaria. The Bains group that enjoys the support of around 10 Akali
councillors from a total strength of 27 alleged that the Mayor had “failed”
on all fronts.

The audiences were in for a treat at the Khalsa College for Women, as students took the stage on the third day of the Panjab University Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival.
During the mimicry competition, girls weaved stories by producing sounds of aeroplanes, generator-sets, birds, drums and guns besides imitating various popular actors and personalities.

PAU fixes rates of food items

The administration of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has fixed the rates of food items available at the canteen, vends and roadside eateries on its campus to provide food to students, employees and other visitors on reasonable rates.
Though vendors and contractors of eateries have to charge customers as per the rate list, they are finding it difficult to maintain the quality of food.

Terrorist attacks flayed
Jagdev Singh Jassowal, chairman of the Desh Bhagat Yaadgiri Society, Punjab, on Wednesday condemned the terrorists attacks on a church in Pakistan during the worship and on a mall in Kenya. “We can progress only if peace is maintained at the international level and steps should be taken to curb such attacks,” he said. The Shahi Imam of Punjab has also condemned the attack on the church in Pakistan. “Such attacks on the one hand are killing innocent people, and on the other it is defaming the Muslim community as a whole,” said Shahi Imam in a release issued from Jama

City schools making TET mandatory for teachers on instructions of CBSE

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), in its recent circular issued to all schools affiliated to it, has made it mandatory that the teachers who wish to serve in schools affiliated to it, will have to clear the Teachers Eligibility Test
(TET). The test will be mandatory for both for the trained graduates and primary teachers.

Head constable, wife booked

The Ludhiana police has booked a head constable, working with the vigilance department, and his wife for taking an illegal possession of a house belonging to a non-resident Indian. Meanwhile, the vigilance department has launched a parallel probe in a disproportionate asset case against the head constable, Amandeep Singh.
