Nine more Afghan onion trucks arrive
: A day after 17 trucks loaded with onions from Afghanistan arrived here, another nine truckloads of Afghan onions reached the Integrated Check Post in Attari on Friday. Sources said each of these trucks were loaded with 20 to 22 tonnes of onion. They said the inflow of onions from Afghanistan was likely to continue in the coming days and it would help in bringing down the onion prices in the domestic market, particularly in the northern region comprising Punjab, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir.

Kisan Morcha hits out at Congress
: The BJP's Kisan Morcha has hit out at the Congress for allegedly politicising the Gujarat Sikh farmers' issue. In a statement, Kisan Morcha spokesman Vineet Joshi alleged that the Congress wanted to create a communal wedge even though Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi had assured of resolving the matter. "In fact, it was a Congress Chief Minister, Ghanshayam Bhai Ojha, in Gujarat who introduced a clause in the law in 1973 that rendered non-Gujaratis, including the Sikh farmers, as non-agriculturists. Therefore, it is the Congress that has a lot of explaining to do," he said. 

Ludhiana leader on Film Censor Board : The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has appointed Amarjit Singh Tikka, senior Congress leader from Ludhiana and chairman of the party’s state unit grievances cell, as a member of the Film Censor Board for a period of two years. Tikka is the only member from Punjab to be nominated to the Board.

New Nawanshahr DC assumes charge 
: IAS officer Anindita Mitra took over as the Deputy Commissioner (DC) here on Friday. She has earlier served as the Additional Deputy Commissioner in Patiala and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Ropar and Kapurthala. Before assuming charge, Anindita paid floral tributes to martyr Bhagat Singh at his native Khatkar Kalan village in the district.

Woman among four booked in rape case
: The police has booked four persons on the charges of raping a woman at Chachoki village near here. In her complaint, the victim alleged that the accused, including Daljit Singh, John and Rishi, raped her while threatening to kill her five-year-old daughter. Daljit’s mother Kamaljit Kaur has also been booked for allegedly abetting the crime.

Volvo buses to enter Delhi airport
: Haryana Roadways (HR) Volvo and Mercedes Benz buses going to Gurgaon will now provide pick-and-drop facility to passengers at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi. Arun Kumar, DG Transport, said the HR and IGIA authorities had signed an agreement for this facility.

RSS leader cremated
: Dr Krishan Baweja, a senior "pracharak" of the RSS, who died in an accident in Himachal, was cremated here on Thursday. Born on September 24, 1949, Baweja worked as a teacher at Hindu College, Rohtak, and DAV College,Chandigarh, before joining the RSS.

Power supply to remain affected on Sept 22

To carry out works to check the hot spots and tightening or replacing of loose and worn out droppers of 220/132/33 KV Grid Station,Gladni, the power supply to areas including old Jammu city, Gandhinagar, Nanaknagar, Channi Himmat, Narwal, Sainik Colony, twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri and areas being fed from Grid station Sidhra, Miransabhib, Gangyal, Bari-Brahmana, Janipur and Sidhra I & II and Kalakote S/C transmission line will remain affected on September 22 from 7 am to 12 noon.
