Ambala, September 13
The ultrasound centre at the trauma centre of the civil hospital has been lying closed for past two months as no radiologist is available in the hospital to operate it.

Pregnant women and the BPL card holder patients have been facing great difficulty as they have to rush to private ultrasound centres where they have to pay almost five times more in comparison to a government hospital.

In fact, the ultrasound centre has not been working properly for past several years as no full time radiologist is available in the hospital. Also, a part-time radiologist was engaged on a contractual basis who continued only for a few months. Last month, when a team of the National Rural Health Mission decided to visit the hospital, a part-time radiologist was engaged for a few days and after the inspection was conducted, the centre was closed.

The Ambala City Civil Hospital is a district-level hospital and a number of seriously injured and sick patients come from various primary health centres and community health centres of the district. Ultrasound facility is the basic requirement of a trauma centre. During odd hours it becomes difficult to shift the patients to some private ultrasound centres.

Last month, when a team of the rural health mission visited the hospital, several patients had complaints for not getting proper medical facility at the trauma centre. Earlier, director general health services, Haryana, had also assured that a full-time radiologist would be appointed at the trauma centre but nothing has been done.

Local MLA Venod Sharma had also taken up the matter with the health minister. He said the facility of CT scan should also be available at the trauma centre as it was necessary for diagnosing the trauma patients.

Geetanjali murder case
Reject in-laws’ plea for kids’ custody, Ravneet urges court
Hina Rohtaki
Tribune News Service

Panchkula, September 13
In the Geetanjali murder case, Chief Judicial Magistrate Ravneet Garg has moved a petition before the CBI court, requesting to reject the petition filed by her parents for the custody of the children.

His counsel, Vishal Garg said the petition stated that only the "guardian" can get the custody of the children. "We have mentioned that the maternal grandparents of the children don't fall within the definition of the guardian. It is only the natural parents who can decide as to who would be the guardian," said Garg.

He further added: "Since the natural parent is Ravneet currently, it is only him who can decide who the guardian is. So, we have requested for the rejection of the plea filed by them".

In August, the parents of Geetanjali, who was found shot dead in Gurgaon, filed a petition before the CBI court seeking the custody of her two daughters.

The parents had alleged that since Geetanjali's murder, they were not even allowed to meet the children by her in-laws. They also said the children, Aasma (4) and Adiva (3), had been confined to a room since their mother was killed.

It was on July 17 when Geetanjali was found shot dead in Gurgaon. Later the post-mortem revealed that she was shot three times.

Following allegations by the victim's family and the investigations by the police, a case under section 302(murder) was registered against her husband Ravneet Garg, father-in-law KK Garg and mother-in-law Rachna Garg.

Ravneet Garg, who is posted at Gurgaon, had moved with Geetanjali from Jagadhri to Gurgaon two months ago following his promotion.

Geetanjali is survived by her two daughters. The family later alleged that Garg had extra-marital relations and since Geetanjali was bearing only daughters, she was allegedly harassed by her in-laws.

Harjeet Kaur, alias Pinky, in two different looks
Harjeet Kaur, alias Pinky, in two different looks.

Panchkula, September 13
A cheat who was a woman granthi in a gurdwara and had gone to a world tour finally landed in jail when she was caught by the police for getting her passport prepared by forging papers.

The accused, Harjeet Kaur, alias Pinky, was sent to the judicial custody by a local court here today. She was working in the guise of a salewoman at a garment showroom in Sector 11, Panchkula.

Earlier, she stayed at the Gurdwara Dhaki Sahib in Ludhiana for 14 years and had become a granthi. On the pretext of getting land in England for the gurdwara she allegedly took Rs 2.5 crore from the gurdwara authorities and then did not return. She travelled to seven to eight countries, including United Kingdom, Singapore, with the money.

Surprisingly, the Panchkula police had issued a verification letter to Pinky in January 2011, wherein it was mentioned that she was living with her father and mother without knowing the fact that she had mentioned in the court records that her mother had died. Sources said her father has disowned her. The death certificate of her mother and the copies of the documents in which his disowned her are with The Tribune.

After her return to India, Pinky allegedly duped two more persons in Panchkula following which a case was registered against her. But this time, she herself invited the trouble when she thought of lodging a false complaint about the passport.

Yesterday, she went to the local police station stating that her passport had been lost. Later, the police found that her passport was with her only and that was prepared by forging papers.

They also found that the verification of her credentials done by two persons was fake. They arrested her under Section 12 of the Passport Act and Sections 467 to 471 (forgery) of Indian Penal Code. One of the persons who gave fake evidence to get her verification done was also arrested by the police.

“Even the law says that forging a passport is a serious offence. We will ensure that the guilty is punished because she has duped many persons,” said counsel Manbir Singh Rathi.
