Young Malangs’ date with students

With ‘Young Malang’, an upcoming Punjabi movie, the Punjabi film industry gets its first ever fashionable and style statement laced movie with cinematography unseen in the industry. This was stated by Rahulinder Singh Sidhu, the producer and creative director of the multi-starrer movie.

The star cast of the movie, which releases worldwide on September 20, was at Rayat Bahra campus, Railmajra, yesterday to promote a visual treat for cinema lovers.

Yuvraj Hans, Bali Riar, Anjana Sukhani, Anita Kailey and director Rajdeep Singh were accompanied by Sidhu who is releasing the movie under his banner of RSG studios and Glimpse Motion Pictures. “Young Malang is a fun-filled, highly stylised and fashionable tale of the young and malang at heart. The film takes back to the college days of youngsters filled with fun and frolic,” said Sidhu.

Yuvraj Hans, son of the legendary Punjabi singer Hans Raj Hans, has bollywood beauty Anjana Sukhani paired opposite to him. Accompanying them are model turned actress Neetu Singh and Anita Kaliey and singer turned actor Balli Riar and Vinaypal Buttar.

“Young Malang is a story of six friends who despite being from very different backgrounds forge a strong bond of friendship,” said Sidhu.

Patiala varsity hosts 3-day theatre fest

Patiala, September 10
The three-day theatre festival being organised by the Department of Theatre and Television began at Punjabi University here today under the guidance of head of department Dr Sunita Dhir.

On the first day, William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet was staged. The play was directed by Partho Bandhopadhyay. Dr Dhir said: “This play is contemporary because young lovers are killed or forced to commit suicide in India for the sake of family honour.”

Garhshankar college thrash PGGC-11 3-0

Chandigarh, September 10
The BAM Khalsa College, Garhshankar, today outclassed Post Graduate Government College (PGGC), Sector 11, 3-0 in the ongoing Inter-College Football Championship for Men (A-Division) being held at the soccer grounds of Panjab University.

Sarbjeet opened the account for his side in the 6th minute. After sealing the first half at 1-0, striker Gurpreet doubled the lead for the Garshankar side in the 70th minute.

After eight minutes, Paramjot sealed the team’s win by scoring the third goal of the match.

In the second match of the day, GNN College, Doraha, trounced PU SSG RC, Hoshiarpur, 3-0. Sukhwinder (7th minute), Virenderjeet (22nd minute) and Tanveer (80th minute) scored a brace each for the winning side.

In the final match of the day, AS College, Khanna, beat Malwa College, Bondli, 2-0.

Amanpreet put the team ahead in the 7th minute. Later, Parwinder scored another brace for the Khanna college to seal the match 2-0 in the 20th minute of the match.

SGGS College-26 clinch water polo title

The water polo team of SGGS College, Sector 26, lifted the title of the Panjab University Inter-College Water Polo Championship for men for this session.
The championship concluded this evening at the swimming pool of Panjab University.

In the final match of the championship, the team registered an impressive victory over Panjab University (Campus) 17-16. The latter finished as runners-up of the tournament .The team of GGD SD College, Sector 32, secured third spot while Post Graduate College, Sector 11, finished fourth in the championship.

Selection trials

Chandigarh: The local kho-kho body will conduct selection trials to shortlist players for the Junior National Kho-Kho Championship for both boys and girls at the Government College for Girls, Sector 42, on September 15 (4 pm). — TNS

PU team win chess tourney

Chandigarh, September 10
The chess team of Panjab University (Campus) today won the Panjab University Inter-College Chess Championship for men. SCD Government College, Ludhiana, and DM College, Moga, finished second and third, respectively.—TNS
