Tae kwon do players left gasping for breath
Chandigarh, August 5 Instead of organising the tourney at some prominent place, the UT Education Department is conducting the tourney in a small hall at Shishu Niketan School, Sector 43, leaving the players suffocated and under high risk of injury. The basement is witnessing the presence of more than 50 people, including officials, at a particular time. The crowded hall and absence of a proper ventilation system left the players gasping. “As per the guidelines and common understanding, the tourneys should be organise in a proper manner. Every government school has a big hall. We have a sports complex at Sector 42, hall at Panjab University but even then, the UT Education Department opted to organise the tourney in this small room. Being the only martial art event, the tournament has witnessed an overwhelming response, but everything is going waste,” said a coach. Also, the carpet area for organising the fights is being laid near a pillar, which could have become a reason of major injury for the fighters. “To avoid any kind of injury, these kinds of fights should be organised in an area with open space. But here, the players are playing under high risk of injury. The pillar on the carpet is a major danger to these players. And ironically, there is no space between the carpet and the table of the technical bench. If a player, while falling down, comes in contact with any sharp corner or the bench or table, it could turn fatal for him,” said Suraj Maheshri, a spectator. Notably, the first-aid box kept for the convenience of players does not carry bandages or ice-pack. The players in these games mostly face internal injuries. “The organisers should have conducted the tourney somewhere else. There is no place to perform. It is too suffocating in this small hall,” said Piyush Rana, a player. |
