Flicks, friends & fun
Classic friendship
Favourite Film: There are so many of my favourite films that have celebrated the bond of friendship. Jai Veeru in Sholay are classic, Rock On is musical journey, and Bucket List makes such a beautiful journey that starts with something so ghastly as death. To pick one, I would go for Zindagi Na MIlegi Dobara, it's very contemporary and real. Movie Time: I do catch flicks with friends. For me it works two ways, they are a beautiful escape from reality and also sometimes bring you close to life and give a reality check. — Keith Sequira, anchor-actor
On equal footing
Favourite film: I recently watched and absolutely loved Untouchable. It's a very uplifting comedy about the friendship between a wealthy disabled Philippe, and his help Driss, an ex-convict. Philippe can't do much except talk, the bond that develops between the two, how Philippe treats Driss as an equal, how they part and come together. I loved the bit how Driss manages to bring around Philippe's love in his life.
Movie time: I often go out with friends for films. But ours are impromptu plans, one minute we all are occupied in our separate worlds, 15 minutes on, we are at a theatre catching a random flick. Movies are enjoyable best in the company of friends. —
Aryeman Bhatia, actor
Friends forever
Favourite Film: Rahul and Anjali are my favourite best friends in the film world. I love the fun element of friendship as shown in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai—Shah Rukh Khan as Rahul distributing friendships bands to all and sundry, his friendly
fights with his best friend Anjali. SRK being my favourite, I adored him playing a friend, lover, dad, all rolled in one.
Movie time:
I watch movies 'only' with my friends. Throughout college, every Friday we would bunk classes to catch the first day first show. I started working few months back so now movies are once a month affair with friends but still the best time for life. —
Nikita Puri, tele sales executive
fights with his best friend Anjali. SRK being my favourite, I adored him playing a friend, lover, dad, all rolled in one.
Trust worthy
Favourite Film: I loved the bond of trust portrayed by two friends played by Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna in Anand. Both played sensitive characters. What I adored was their complete trust in each other. Friendships like these are rare in times today. Movie Time: I too went to movies with friends at one point of time. Then with my husband who used to be very fond of them. Now movie time is reserved for kids who are my good friends now. — Premila Puri, singer
Redefining friendship
Favourite film: Aakash, Sammer and Sidtharth are my favourite 'friends'. I loved Dil Chahta Hai for it tracks how friendship undergoes change with time, how they fall apart and reunite. And, then each actor Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna played their role to perfection. There is fun, hurt and more that defines friendship in the movie.
Movie time: Once upon a time I was a regular at films with my friends. Not any more, since I joined my mum in her enterprise Renu Khanna and Associates. Movies are gone from life, and friends. Now I enjoy designs we make with my new best friend and workmate that my mum is to me! — Sakul Khanna,

Bring on the bling
Over the years, the wedding business in India has witnessed an evolution that has added much momentum to the wheels of creativity and the evolution does not just stop here. To explore various avenues for the wedding-related needs of customers, Bling Bling, the multi-designer store, Manimajra, is organising a two-day long event, Wedding Diaries, to meet all your wedding requirements.
"The endeavour will save you the effort of shopping at various cities for jewellery, wedding clothes and wedding invites and sweets," says Ashita Sondhi, owner of the store. The event also offers free make-up demo and skin care consultations from Chandigarh-based makeup artist, Tanvi KJ. Jewel in the crown
As Divya Gupta, a Chandigarh-based jewellery designer, diamond grader and gemmologist, exhibits her designs in precious and semi-precious stones, she says, "People want their wedding jewellery to be unique and to serve that purpose, I customise jewellery for my clients. The collection includes ethnic, fusion and Mughal inspired designs." Divya supplies her designs and finished products to many stores across Punjab, Delhi, Canada and UK and the prices of the jewellery range from Rs 1000 to Rs 50,000. Meanwhile, if you fancy diamonds, Rohit Bansal, director, Timeless Jewels, says, "We offer our products online and they are IGI certified. Also, we are the largest suppliers of diamond jewellery and we outsource our products across North and Delhi too." Fabulous fabrics
Mini Sondhi, a Chandigarh-based fashion designer, displays her bridal collection at the store. "Customisation is our main agenda and we will also be providing our customers with a sample of their customised choice too. The collection is Mughal inspired and it has a lot of gota patti and mirror work on raw silk, brocade, dupion, georgette, and net. While the bridal range starts from Rs 1 lakh, the cocktail gowns start from Rs 20,000. Since we are into customisation, we can design clothes according to the customer's budget too," she says. Also, Chandni Purohit, a Kolkata-based designer, offers a casual wear wedding collection in bright colours. Food, cards and camera
While the paper art boutique, Create Aflutter, offers customised wedding cards with laser cut work and hand-made paper, the prices of which depend upon the customer's needs, Chocolique offers home-made green label chocolates. Also, Amit Sood's Roshan Studios, Sector 8, Punchkula that specialises in traditional photography, offers a complete wedding photo shoot and albums.

Complete circle
There is more to men than bromance, reads the tagline of Ketan Bhagat's first book, Complete/Convenience, which is perhaps an extension of his disposition-a rare combination of captivating humour and easy going charm. At the Art Lounge, Sector 34, as he engages in a rather candid conversation, he talks about his journey towards becoming a writer. The journey
"With a full time job, a wife and a two-and-a-half year old kid, I had absolutely no intention to pen down a book. However, after spending over seven years in Australia, Malaysia and travelling across several countries, when I decided to settle in India, it prompted a latent thought that needed an expression," says Ketan. "Every time I would watch Karan Johar's films, which would paint the idea of Indians living abroad in bright hues, a certain kind of realisation would dawn upon me. I wanted to project a rather realistic version of NRIs to the Indian audience, who believe that living abroad is ultimate refuge from the inconveniences that they face in India, without realising the vacuity that persists to haunt you when you are away from your own country, thus, the title, Complete/Convenience," he avers. While crediting his wife for her little persuasion (to which he admitted to very reluctantly and jokingly), Ketan dwelled on the literary accomplishments of his brother, Chetan Bhagat as he shared, "It took me over two and a half years to write the book. Chetan is a brilliant writer and I sought some credit by the virtue of his accomplishments," he quips. "Also, because most of the male protagonists are either shown as superheroes or college sweethearts, I wanted to project the life of a man, who has a job, is married and the emotional trivia that comes along with staying abroad and returning to India. The book is not completely based on my life, rather the story also revolves around the first hand experiances of the lives of people I know," he shares. Ketan vs Chetan
"I think it will be a little unfair to compare me with Chetan because we are very different people. Also, in terms of writing, I do not write like him. While his characters are mostly youngsters, mine are in their mid-thirties and the plot is totally different," opines Ketan while adding, "Chetan is a very accomplished writer and he was the first one to read my book. However, the fact that we are completely opposite of each other, does not interfere with our cordial relationship." While Ketan is currently settled in Mumbai and is occupied with his job as a regional sales manager in an MNC, he intends to write a book on the father-son relationship, the inspiration for which, he seeks from his son. "I am working on the book that is about the father-son relationship and though writing is a very difficult task, I wish to take it further," he signs off. amarjot@tribunemail.com

Neil Nitin Mukesh unplugged!
Neil Nitin Mukesh may have started his acting career as a child artiste in films like Vijay and Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharni, but today he has established himself as a leading actor. He speaks about his upcoming film Dussehra, his life and more…
Dussehra ground
Dussehra is an out and out hardcore action film. You will see me fighting with 30 men. But the film has some mind blowing performances too. It is a film on an encounter specialist. The investigation starts from Holi and it ends on Dussehra. I, me, myself
I am a very simple man. I have a 9 to 5 job. After that I go back to my family, which is my mother and my father. I don't have guts to be in any 'serial' territory, be it 'kisser' or a 'killer'. (Laughs). My journey has been extremely interesting. There were a lot of ups and downs. But so far, it has been a very intelligently grafted journey. I have worked with the finest directors of Bollywood. There are also some new directors in my kitty and I am looking forward to it. On bad films
Sometimes I do ask myself— am I doing bad films. It's confusing sometimes. But I hold my horses and come back to believing in what I am doing. It gives me a little bit of confidence and hope. Over to production
I am producing a film called Paidaar. It means eternal. I have written the film also. I plan to shoot this film by the end of the year. Gadget freak
People call me a gadget-freak. I have this craze of buying gadgets for myself. I would rather not go shopping for my clothes. But I prefer shopping for gadgets. Recently, I got myself a projector which is 4 inches. You can connect it to your iPhone and get 100 inches on to your wall. I also have a 3 inches bluetooth keyboard, which can be connected to any of your instruments.
