Hemant Kumar

Kalka, August 3
Resentment prevails among the students over the inadequate bus service of the Haryana Roadways, who commute everyday between Kalka and Chandigarh due to the inconvenience they are facing these days.

Some of the parents of the students told the Tribune that more than 80 students are forced to travel in the bus which leaves for Chandigarh at 6.35am. The bus gets over loaded as there is only single bus service in the morning hours, which carry 80 to 100 students to Sector 17, Chandigarh via Madhya Marg.

The parents alleged that recently some of the students sustained injuries by falling from the bus. The students also alleged that they face difficulties in the evening hours, as there was no bus for students after 2 pm from Sector 17. Subsequently, they have no other option to travel by maxi cabs, from Mani Majra.

A delegation of the parents, headed by Som Nath, Municipal Councillor of Ward No 1 of Kalka had recently met SDM Kalka and demanded to start another bus for the students in the morning hours. A memorandum has also been submitted to the TM, Haryana Roadways, Chandigarh. The official sources of the Haryana Roadways, Sub-Depot Kalka, when contacted, said, “We have enough buses. But due to shortage of bus drivers, we are unable to start another bus service.
