Fatehgarh Sahib, July 10 Complainant Ranjodh Singh in his complaint to the police said he had purchased a four-marla plot (khasra No. 16/11/20) through property dealer Karnail Singh. The plot was owned by Gurdev Singh, Gurmail Singh and Gurmeet Singh, residents of Raiyya village, Ludhiana. The sale of the said plot was registered in Khamano on December 21, 2012, and the intikal was also entered in the treasury books. He said when he went to attain the physical possession of the plot; he noticed that only one-marla plot existed at the site during measurement. He alleged that the records showed that the plot measured only one marla, which was checked in the presence of the plot sellers and property dealers while other partners had already sold their share many years ago. The figures of the plot in the registry was checked and it was found that half-marla belonged to a graveyard, while two-and-half marla was a common land located about two km from the site and had been donated by some people. SP Manmeet Singh said the whole matter was being investigated and efforts were on to nab the accused involved in the deal. |

College staff donates for cancer patients
Fatehgarh Sahib, July 10 Sampla said the cancer relief fund was set up by the SGPC to extend financial help to the patients in their treatment, because Jathedar Avtar Singh, president, SGPC, had taken the initiative to help such patients.

Three acquitted in drugs case
Chandigarh, July 10 The court acquitted three students, Sunish Verma, a resident of Sector 41, and Sitanshu Saini and Vishrut Malik, both residents of Sector 38(West). The police had booked the three following the recovery of 200 gm charas from each of them in October 2010. They were arrested for their alleged involvement in Neha murder case and the police had also conducted their narco tests, but nothing substantial was found. In 2011, the three were taken to Forensic Science Laboratory, Gandhinagar, in Gujarat for brain mapping test. The police had moved the application to get their narco test done in December, 2010. Neha Ahlawat(22) of Sector 38, was found murdered on July 31, 2010, and her body was recovered from near Karan Taxi Stand in Sector 38. Panchkula, July 10 The youths have been identified as Junaid, Sahib, Seema and Lucky. Sahib is the cousin of Junaid. All of them are in the age group of 22 and 25. It was 10 days ago when they had taken the house on rent. The police said, all four of them were arrested from the residence itself. “Earlier they were operating from Kishangarh and Mani Majra but shifted here. We still have to investigate whether more persons were involved or not,” said a police official. He further added, “They had a large network.” A case has been registered at the Sector 14 police station. |

City soccer player aims high
Chandigarh, July 10 In his recent achievement, he was selected to attend the AIFF’s (All-India Football Federation) Indian senior team preparatory camp. But, unfortunately, his ligament injury made him return home. “It was a golden chance; nevertheless, if I will continue to work hard I will get more such opportunities. I was called for the senior Indian camp on the basis of my performance during I-league and other major tournaments. Hopefully, I will wear my studs soon and take charge of the field,” said Sandesh. The 20-year-old, defender (stopper back), is also expecting to sign a sports firm, for his better soccer career. In the upcoming days, the city might witness this local lad, featuring in some major clubs of the nation. “I have already some good clubs in my kitty and hopefully, if things go in my favour, I will be signing for a new sports firm. That firm will also have a job offer for me. So, I am looking forward to grabbing this opportunity,” said Sandesh. Being among the first to join any club of the far-east region, his background does not belong to any football academy. He achieved this feat after giving his cent per cent on the field and showed talent to the national selectors, during his performance in the Dr BC Roy Football National Level Trophy for the Boys (U-19). The local side won the national level tourney for the first time in the history of the city. Later, he attended junior India camp for four months. During that period, he faced a fractured ankle and a knee-ligament injury. It was during that time when he entered into a three-year contract with the Sikkim-based United Sikkim Football Club. He played tournaments like I-league (IInd division) and later he found his place in senior Indian team probable’s list. “To play for a club was a dream and to play in the senior Indian side is now my aim. Life is tough when one has unwanted obstacles. But I am trying to overcome every aspect. I am hoping to land in some good hands so that I can nurture my skills and hard work,” said Sandy. He further said, “I used to attend practice sessions in both morning and the evening sessions. Moreover, playing matches with my seniors improved my skills. My elder brother, Sahaj, has always stood by me. A morale is always needed to uplift the morale and Sahaj provided me that,” he said. |

Local cricketer makes it to India under-23 squad
Chandigarh, July 10 Twenty-year-old Prashant, who plays for Himachal Pradesh, said he was really excited to be the part of the Indian squad for this tournament. “I am already in reckoning for the national side. A good performance in the coming tournament will further increase my chance for the national team, said Prashant, who was also part of the winning India Under-19 squad for the World Cup. He said, “I am very confident of my good performance in the tournament. Moreover, I am practicing very hard and putting lot of stress on my weak areas,” he said. Prashant has a couple of good knocks to the credit. He played important knock of 82 score in the semifinal match of the Under-19 World Cup against New Zealand. He had scored 100 against Jharkhand in this season of Ranjhi Trophy. Prashant said he would leave the city with a positive mindset and try to play his natural game in the tournament rather than doing something extra. “At this level, every performance will be counted therefore; I have my fingers crossed for this tournament. This tournament is also important because the next Ranjhi season will begin from October.” As per the schedule of the tournament, the matches will be played at Kallang Cricket Ground and Singapore Cricket Ground from August 17 to 25. India’s first match will be against its neighbours, Pakistan, (August 18) after which, they will face Nepal (August 20) and Afghanistan (August 22). At last, the final match will be played on August 25. “Undoubtedly, Pakistan will be a tough opponent. I have played against Pakistan in Under-19 World Cup too. So, I am pretty confident to perform well against the team,” he said. Prashant’s father, Shiv Chopra, a Cricket Coach at Sector 16, Cricket Stadium, said the whole family was excited for his selection. “We want him to play well and make the country proud,” he said. New driving range inaugurated at Golf Club
Chandigarh, July 10 Captain of the club, Bobby Sandu, said each hitting bay has been independently floodlit to improve the nighttime playing experience for the golfer. The entire new overall structure is designed by Sprech, Italy, and is made of galvanised steel preventing it from rusting. He also added that new roofing has been put on this structure to protect the golfers from the scorching sun and rains. This roofing is a state of the art and is made of modular tensile fabric, Ferrari, manufactured with high UV protection for extended life. In addition to all this, a new patch of grass has been planted and facility given for the better players to practice at specific times, he said. Along with other facilities, the range fence height has also been increased to reduce the possibility of balls flying out thus preventing injury to other golfers as well as curbing ball loss. New benches have been fixed in the back of the range for golfers to sit and rest during their practice sessions. A provision has been made for an automatic ball dispensing machine which is expected to arrive later in this year. Over 100 members participated in the inauguration function. State Bank of India had sponsored the construction of the driving range. |
