Four get life imprisonment

Asserting that a valuable life has been lost under the garb of money, the court of District and Sessions Judge, SK Aggarwal, today sentenced four convicts of the murder of a chartered accountant (CA) Rajesh Goyal in 2007 to life imprisonment.

Court fast-tracks two cases involving minors
Chandigarh, July 8
Moving ahead with recording speedy trials, especially in cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, the district courts today created history by concluding the recording of evidence in two such cases by putting them on fast track. While in one case, the entire evidence in the case of rape of a minor was recorded in a single day, the evidence in another case was concluded on the second day of its hearing.

In a daring incident, two unidentified youths snatched Rs 23,600 and a mobile phone from a fruit vendor in front of the Sector 30 State Bank of India (SBI) branch here this evening.

MC committee moots beat boxes for enforcement wing staff at city markets

An 85-year-old man was found brutally murdered with a sharp-edged weapon at his tubewell near his fields at Mehdoodan village near Bassi Pathana.

Doc gets six months in jail for staging shootout, robbery
Panchkula, July 8
In the controversial Dr Sumit Sofat case, the local court today awarded six-month imprisonment to the accused doctor. Dr Sofat, who is wanted in 25 criminal cases, had got a shootout and robbery staged at Morni to grill his enemies. A fine of Rs 3,000 was also imposed on him.

Youth arrested for murder at Ram Darbar
Chandigarh, July 8
The UT police today arrested 24-year-old Shahid Khan for the murder of a book binder at Ram Darbar, Phase II. The 25-year-old victim, Pardeep Kumar, was found dead with his throat slit yesterday. The incident came to light around 11.30 am, after passers-by spotted the body in a pool of blood, and informed the police control room (PCR).
