138 cellphones worth Rs 7 lakh recovered
Chandigarh, June 3 The investigation revealed that the phones were either misplaced, or they were purchased from different mobile vendors or were found lying at different locations. Rajesh Kalia, DSP (cyber cell), said while many cellphones were traced through putting IMEI and cell numbers of phones on surveillance, high-end cellphones were traced through software applications, which were already installed in these phones. Police officials said that there was a dire need to make people aware about the usage of software applications, which were useful in locating the mobiles and the owners could themselves trace the phone on their own. The police said that since January 2013, the Chandigarh Police had received a large number of complaints regarding missing/lost mobile phones at various police stations/ police posts. Taking a serious note of the situation, a joint team of l/C MTMC and l/C CRU, had been constituted under the supervision of the DSP (cyber cell), who was entrusted the responsibility of recovering these mobile phones. “These days, a number of software applications are provided by the manufacturing companies (especially in high-end phones) which are very useful in locating the mobile phones and the user himself can trace his phone. The Chandigarh Police would advise the customers to make use of such applications so that theft or loss is prevented,” said Kalia. |
