Minor girl raped in Dera Bassi
Dera Bassi, May 31 The police has registered a case against the youth, Pardeep Singh (21), a resident of Bairmajra, under Section 376, IPC. The accused has not been arrested yet. The case was registered following the complaint of the victim’s father Karam Singh, a resident of Bairmajra village. Karam Singh, in his complaint, said his daughter was studying in Class X at Government High School, Dappar, and Pardeep, a youth of the village, took the girl along on his motorcycle when she came out of the school on Thursday. The accused then took the girl to Toganppur village and raped her in the fields there. After returning home, the girl narrated the incident to her family. The victim’s kin reported the matter to the police. The medical examination of the girl was conducted at the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi. |

Two die in mishaps
Dera Bassi, May 31 The first accident took place when Sitar and his cousin, Hazi Raghav, both residents of Gangoh, Saharanpur district, UP, were crossing the highway yesterday night near Sartaj Hotel and a truck hit them. Sitar died on the spot and Hazi was seriously injured in the accident. The police has registered a case against the unidentified truck driver. Another accident took place in the fields of Pragpur village when a tractor overturned while levelling the fields. The police said Kuldeep Singh was levelling the fields and suddenly the tractor overturned. Parmjeet Singh Pammy, who was standing in the fields, came under the tractor. He was brought to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, where doctors declared him brought dead. |

Students of Budha Dal Public School shine in CBSE Class XII results
Patiala, May 31 DAV School: A total of 219 students appeared for the examination and the result of the school was 99.8 per cent. Officiating principal Anita Kataria said out of the total students, as many as 15 students got more than 90 per cent. Narain Public School: Out of the total 97 students, who appeared for Class XII exams, Vaishali made Narain Public School proud by securing top position in the school with 95.8 per cent in the non-medical stream. Shubham Dhawan secured 93.8 per cent in the same stream. In the commerce stream, Gurdayal Singh and in the arts steam, Tanushi Jain both secured 93.8 per cent. Mukat Public School, Rajpura: Mukat Public School, Rajpura, achieved 100 per cent result. As many as 19 students scored above 90 per cent. The commerce stream produced the best result with 11 students scoring above 90 per cent. Muskan Arora topped the school with 96.6 per cent. In all, 64 students managed to score above 80 per cent. Scholar Fields School: Nipun Nagpal, the topper of the medical stream, got 93.4 per cent (467/500), while Sagar Shorey, the topper of non-medical stream, got 93.2 per cent (466/500). Amanat Benipal stood second in the medical stream with 93.2 per cent and Megha got second position in the non-medical with 93 per cent. Teja Singh Kandhari Public School, Patiala: Isha Goel (95 per cent in commerce), Nilesh Sachdeva (94 per cent in non-medical), Monica (88.6 per cent in medical) and Aalamjeet Kaur (87 per cent in arts) have topped their respective streams in the school. The overall Class XII result is 100 per cent. Blossoms Senior Secondary School: Ramanjot Singh has got the first position with 93.6 per cent, followed by Amandeep Singh Talwar with 93.4 per cent, while Prashant Jindal has got the third position with 92 per cent in the non-medical stream. Komalpreet Kaur has topped in the medical stream with 92.6 per cent marks, followed by Anurag Singla 92.4 per cent, while Aditya Kishore has got the third position with 87.4 per cent. Navjot Kaur has topped in humanities with 93.2 per cent and Aakarshan Goyal has topped in commerce with 89.8 per cent. Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Public School: Naveen Singh came first in the non-medical stream with 94.4 per cent, while Arunim Chopra got second position in the non-medical stream with 94.2 per cent. Nikhil Arora in the medical stream got 88.8 per cent, Vishaldep Singh in the commerce stream got 89.6 per cent, while Sahilpreet Singh Patang in the arts stream secured 74.2 per cent. Bhupindra International Public School: Nishant Aggarwal topped the medical stream with 91.6 per cent. Jaskirat Singh from the non-medical stream topped with 90 per cent, Akash Tanwar from the non-medical stream scored 87.6 per cent. Urvashi Kapoor from the medical stream scored 87.4 per cent, while Saumya Rana got 86 per cent. Guru Nanak Foundation: A total of 190 students appeared for Class XII examinations, out of which nine students scored above 90 per cent. As many as 25 students scored above 80 per cent and 41 scored above 70 per cent. Sarah Chahal stood first in the medical stream with 95.8 per cent, Khushleen topped the non-medical stream with 91.2 per cent and Ridhi Sodhi came first in the commerce stream with 93.6 per cent. Apollo Public School: Out of the total 86 students who appeared for CBSE Class XII examinations, as many as 35 students got the first division. Komalpreet Kaur topped the school with 96 per cent, while Akashjot Kaur stood second with 93 per cent. Geetu Dhima topped the commerce stream with 83 per cent, while Avleen Kaur and Navdeep Singh stood second with 80 per cent. |

Fatehgarh Sahib, May 31 SSP Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said the police got information that Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Patiala, was involved in the sale of poppy husk in the area. The police erected a naka near Bhadal Thua drain and arrested Kuldeep. During checking, the police recovered 10 kg of poppy husk from his possession. Gurmeet said the anti-narcotics cell arrested Jhirmal Singh, a resident of Bassi Pathana, and recovered 1,700 intoxicant tablets from his custody. Two youths die of drug overdose

Charges framed against 43 farmers
Chandigarh, May 31 The UT police had booked around 43 farmers in September 2009, after the agitation called by the Ekta faction of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) and four other farmers’ organisations turned violent. A man, identified as Jagsir Singh from Mansa district, was killed while 40 farmers and 34 police personnel suffered injuries in the clashes that took place after the agitation turned violent. The farmers had even damaged more than two dozen police, government and private vehicles. The case was registered on September 8, 2009, after the agitation of five farmers’ organisations against the possible unbundling of the Punjab State Electricity Board into four companies turned violent. The police had filed a chargesheet in this connection in March 2011, and had claimed that a group among the agitators torched a stationary police vehicle near the Sector 16 cricket stadium. As the police personnel moved in, a section of the protesters began to hurling stones at them, following which the police used force. The protesters were cane charged and tear gas shells were used to disperse the crowd. Around 43 farmers belonging to the Bharti Kissan Union (Ekta) would now be facing a trial for vandalising and damaging vehicles during the protest in 2009, as the local court has framed charges against them. |

Girl’s relatives booked for abducting her
Chandigarh, May 31 The police has booked Ajeb Khan, a resident of Sant Nagar, Mandi Gobindgarh, Perry and others who allegedly abducted Sakshi Sharma from near the Punjab Human Rights Office, Sector 34. Harinder Pal Sharma, a resident of Fatehgarh Sahib, reported to the police that he married Sakshi Sharma at Chandi Mandir on May 29 against the wishes of their parents. At about 9.28 am, when they reached near the office in Sector 34, a car stopped near them and Sakshi’s uncle and his accomplices abducted her in their car. — TNS |
