All is well at Panchkula Mini-Secretariat

A day after Chandigarh Tribune highlighted in its columns about 200 supporters storming into the Mini Secretariat and dancing to the beats of dhols inside the office, while candidates filed their nomination papers, the police force was deployed in the morning itself today.

City reels under heat wave
Chandigarh, May 21
The city today continued to reel under heat wave conditions for the second day with the mercury still hovering around 42.6 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature recorded in the city was 22.2 degree Celsius, which is the highest in the past nine years.

Edu Dept to do away with subject teachers up to Class V
Chandigarh, May 21
The UT Education Department has adopted the single teacher policy for all the primary classes. The policy, which was already in place for Classes I and II at government schools, will do away with the practice of having subject-wise teachers up to Class V.

Devashish tops MD/MS entrance
Chandigarh: Devashish Sahoo has topped the MD/MS entrance exam conducted by the PGI on Sunday. In the results declared on Monday, Sahoo secured 99.991 percentile among 9,000 candidates.

A two-hour power cut at Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, today left hundreds of patients sweating without fans. Further, it affected the working of all the departments, including emergency and operation theatres.

45 candidates file papers on last day

As many as 45 candidates filed their nominations on the last day for filing of papers, while 27 candidates had filed nominations on the penultimate day for the upcoming Panchkula Municipal Corporation elections.

Girl molested in moving auto-rickshaw
Chandigarh, May 21
A 25-year-old woman was molested and robbed of her bag by an auto-rickshaw driver and his accomplice in a moving auto near Sectors 36, 37, 41 and 42 roundabout on late Monday evening. The victim, a resident of Phase VI, Mohali, also injured her back and suffered fracture in one of her arms after jumped out of the auto.

FIR to be lodged against Ward No 8 candidate

In a major decision, the district administration has decided to lodge an FIR against Hemant Kinger, who is contesting elections from Ward Number 8 after it was found that he was fabricating false evidence against another candidate.

The court of Additional District and Session Judge RK Yadav today acquitted the three accused in two-year-old murder case.Three accused — Gagan, Amit and Kuldeep — who were truck drivers, were arrested in May 2011 for allegedly committing murder of their fellow driver Rakesh kumar.
