Commission agents resent non-clearance of bills
Fatehgarh Sahib, May 5 Following Food and Civil Supply Minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon's orders, other district administrations were clearing the bills of commission agents, but not so in Fatehgarh Sahib, said Rajesh Singla, press secretary, Arthiya Association, Punjab. He said the association had brought the matter to Punjab Mandi Board vice-chairman Ravinder Singh Cheema’s notice, who assured them that the matter would be looked into on his visit to the district. Nodal
officer fails to attend meeting
In the meeting of officials of procurement agencies, summoned by Cheema yesterday, District Food and Civil Supply Controller-cum-Pungrain DM Harjit Kaur, who is the nodal officer for the implementation of all the government orders, was absent. Cheema, reportedly irked by this, warned the officials that those who would not bother to implement the government orders and work in an arbitrary manner and promote corrupt practices, causing embarrassment to the government, would be taken to task. He alleged that the nodal officer had intentionally remained absent from the meeting, despite being informed about his visit individually as well as through the commissioner office. He said he had specifically come to address grievances of the commission agents and farmers regarding the clearance of commission and labour charges bills. However, in the absence of the nodal officer concerned he could do nothing, he said. He said he would bring the irresponsible attitude of the officer to the Food and Civil Supply Minister and Commisioner’s notice. He directed all the heads of procurement agencies to clear the labour charges and commission bills as promised by the Minister. If they failed to do so, he would brief the Minister and Chief Minister on as to how the officers were bringing a bad name to the government, he said. On being contacted by this correspondent, Harjit Kaur failed to comment on the matter, saying she was busy at the moment. |
