Man stabs cousin to death over property dispute
Amritsar, April 30 Reports said the victim’s wife was also present on the spot at the time of the incident. The accused, Inderjit Singh, is the son of the deceased’s paternal uncle. He was handed over to the police by some people who caught hold of him after he committed the crime. The police also recovered the knife which was used in the crime. Reports said that Kewal Singh, his wife Sarbjit Kaur and Inderjit Singh boarded a bus at their native village Soian Khurd near here. When aboard the bus, they entered into an argument over the sale of a nine-marla ancestral plot in Soian Khurd. The plot in question was reportedly sold a few weeks ago and Inderjit resented that he was not given his share. Infuriated over this, Kewal requested the driver to let him sit on top of the bus. When the bus reached Mudhal village and took a brief halt at about 9.30 am, Inderjit dragged Kewal Singh from the bus top and stabbed him with a knife. Some of the onlookers nabbed the accused and informed the police. A police team led by SHO Jagdish Raj from the Verka police station reached the spot and took the accused in custody. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared as brought dead. SHO Jagdish Raj said the property dispute was the prime reason behind this incident. “The accused has been taken into custody and a case has been registered under Section 302,”the SHO said. case file

He recalled that a delegation of terrorism victim families, led by Congress leader Shamsher Singh Dullo, had met the PM during his visit to Ludhiana on September 26, 2006. He added that the cabinet, under the chairmanship of the Dr Manmohan Singh, had given approval to the policy of relief package on March 20, 2008. However, the implementation was decided to be wef April 1, 2008 due to which the victims of Punjab could not avail their legitimate relief package and other benefits as the terrorism period in Punjab has been marked between 01-08-1982 to 1995, the period from which the Punjab government started giving compensation. Dr Hastir said the Punjab Congress leadership ignored the demands of victims of terrorism of the state and the indifferent attitude made the Congress pay a heavy price during the 2007 and the 2012 Assembly Elections. “If the Punjab Congress leadership, especially of Majha region, is sensitive towards the innocent victims of terrorism then it should put in assiduous efforts for securing a relief package from the Union government”, he added.
