Shifting of stray cattle one day in advance sparks row
Chandigarh, April 21
As many as 60 stray cows were shifted from the city to a gaushala in Delhi on Saturday night, following the orders of the Mayor. The move has raised many eyebrows as it was allegedly done without informing members of the Finance and Contract Committee (FCC). Pointing towards controversies, opposition councillors today called a meeting to look into the reason behind the “secret” shifting of the cows, which was earlier scheduled for today.

8pc people suffering from heart ailments in India: Docs

The Chandigarh Police went into tizzy on Saturday after it received a phone call from their counterparts in Australia, who informed them about the death of an Aussie woman in Chandigarh. Different branches of the police were put on alert to trace the woman. The woman has been traced and is alive.

The UT Education Department will soon open more mid-day meal kitchens in government schools in order to further streamline the supply of meals under this Central-sponsored scheme. So far, only four kitchens are catering to students studying in all the 104 government schools in the city.

Once considered a prestigious ayurvedic institute of the country, Government Ayurvedic College, Patiala, is struggling for its existence due to the ‘callous’ attitude of the Punjab Government and the college administration. The then ‘Raj Vaidya’, Ram Parsad Sharma, started the college in 1952.

A man died in a road accident while his wife was injured when a car hit a two-wheeler they were riding on near the roundabout of Sector 48 and 49 this morning.

The Chandigarh Golf Club witnessed a record turnout at the annual governing body elections this year. The casting of votes started at around 11 am and went on till 5pm, here this evening. Reportedly, a total of 1142 votes were casted by the end of the day and till lunch time, the voting-toll had reached to 1000.

Police water sports meet at Sukhna Lake from April 24

The 12th All India Police Water Sports Championship (AIPWSC) is going to be held at the Sukhna Lake here from April 24-30. AIPWSC is a national level event in which police personnel from all state police forces and central police organisations compete to win the trophy. The disciplines include kayaking, canoing and rowing.
