Charges framed in rape case

The Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Shalini Nagpal today framed charges against a 19-year-old youth, who has been accused of abducting and raping a 14-year-old girl. The court framed charges under sections 363, 366 and 376 of the IPC against the accused. The case was registered in January this year when the police arrested Vikas, a driver, for the rape of a girl who was the daughter of a class IV employee of Panjab University.

The girl was found to be three months' pregnant when the police booked the accused, who is a resident of Sector 25. According to the police, the minor girl had gone missing from her house on November 29, 2012. Her father had lodged a missing complaint with the police. Later, a kidnapping case was registered.

However, five days after she had gone missing, she returned home. She had told her parents that she had left the house on her own. In January, the girl complained of pain in the abdomen. Her parents took her to a hospital where it was confirmed she was about three-month pregnant.

The police, on a complaint of her family, got a medical examination of the victim done. The report confirmed she was raped.

The victim was studying in Class V but her parents did not let her go to the school after the incident.

Accused's bail plea dismissed

A local court on Friday dismissed the regular bail application of Saurabh, who is an accused of culpable homicide of a college student Radhika, who died of drug overdose.

The case was registered in December last year when the victim, a 21-year-old girl student of the Government College, Sector 11, died of drug overdose at a hotel in Sector 22 on December 18. The victim was staying as a paying guest in Sector 15 and was allegedly supplied drugs by two youngsters at a hotel in Sector 22. The victim was a BA-II student of the college. The police had said she died of heroin overdose.

The police had arrested two youngsters, who had been identified as Gagandeep and his brother-in-law Saurabh, both residents of Daddu Majra Colony, in a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Sections 304 and 328 of the IPC. Charges have been framed in the case.

Court extends remand of murder accused

The court today extended the remand of notorious accused, Dharminder Singh Grewal, alias Googni, Sunil Bhanot, alias Chhoti, Rajat and Vishal Shekhawat in the advocate Amarpreet Singh’s murder case, for five more days here today.

After culmination of the seven-day remand period of the culprits today, the police again asked for the extension of their remand on the plea that their accomplice Kevin, a resident of Kharar, was still absconding.

“We needed them for some more time as we are yet to extract the information about the persons, from whom they used to get the firearms and other ammunition,” said Atul Soni, station house officer of the Mataur police station here.

Notably, the police had arrested the foursome on March 25 from a house at Gulab Bagh locality in Indore where they were staying in a rented accommodation. The police had also recovered four pistols, two .32 bore and two 7.62 mm, along with cartridges and a black Elantra car (PB10 0002), from their possession.

The other accused in the case, Onkar Singh, Sunbir Singh, Jaswinder Singh and Deepak Kaushal, have already been sent under judicial custody by the local court.

The alleged accused had shot down a local advocate, Amarpreet Singh, in their indiscriminate firing on February 27 at Phase 3B1, here. Amarpreet’s cousin, Gaganjot Singh, and his friend had also sustained injuries after receiving shots in the firing.

Remand for rape case accused

Amit Gadhoke, who was arrested by the Mohali police on the charges of raping and cheating a local woman advocate, has been sent to two-day remand by the court.

Amit, who is a resident of Mayur Vihar, New Delhi, was produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Shiv Mohan Garg today.

Amit had come in contact with the victim, a divorcee and mother of a girl, through an online matrimonial site, jeevansathi.com, around two years ago. The accused is also married.

The victim alleged that the accused had created his profile using a fake name, Rajan Malhotra, and given wrong information. The Mohali police had registered an FIR under Sections 376, 420 and 419 of the IPC and 66 and 66-D of the IT Act against the accused on March 11 in this connection.

Amit preferred to reserve his comments when confronted by media persons at the court today.

Two held for carrying sword near court complex

Mohali, April 4
The local police has arrested two youths for lurking suspiciously in front of the district court complex along with their respective groups of about 25 youngsters, and recovered a sword and a knife from their possession here today.

The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Phase V, here and Jatinder Singh of Sector 69.

The police has registered an attempt to murder case against the duo and their other friends, who are yet to be identified.

The station house officer of the area, Atul Soni, claimed that these youngsters have attempted to run over some cops under a car when they tried to nab them. “We have registered an attempt to murder case against them,” said Soni.

He added that they the police has also impounded the Logan car (white-coloured).

Notably, Gurpreeet Singh has already been facing an attempt to murder case, registered at the Mataur police station in 2011, in which Jatinder Singh was complainant.

“Both the groups might have gathered today in front of the court with bad intentions,” said Soni adding that investigations were on.

The police is identifying the other youngsters, who were present in front of the court today, he said.

2 eve-teasing cases reported

The UT police today registered two cases of eve-teasing on the complaints of two women.

In the first case, a woman alleged that Inder Bakshi, a resident of Mohali, called her on the mobile phone and passed lewd comments. She reported to the police and a case under Section 294 of the IPC has been registered. The accused was arrested and later released on bail.

In another case, a woman of Chandigarh alleged that Surinder, a resident of Sector 22, called her on the mobile phone regarding service and made objectionable comments. A case under section 354-A of the IPC has been registered. The police has arrested the suspect.

19-year-old youth attacked for protecting his sister

A 19-year-old youth, who objected to eve teasing of his sister, was attacked in Sector 15 here today.

The police has arrested the three accused Sandeep, Kunal and Parveen in the case. The victim, Sandeep, received blunt injuries and his medical examination was conducted at GMSH, Sector 16. The incident took place around 1 pm when the accused, Kunal, allegedly passed some comments on Sandeep’s sister near the book market in Sector 15. When Sandeep objected, Kunal and his friends thrashed him.

The was rescued after the intervention of passers-by and shopkeepers of the market at Sector 15.

The police has registered a case at Sector 11 police station and started the investigation.

Three arrested for attacking cops

Chandigarh, April 4
The UT police today arrested three drug addicts for allegedly attacking police party on April 2.

The three accused have been identified as Jagdish Singh, Anoop Kumar and Amit Chauhan. The three had attacked a police party and injured two policemen in Sector 16 on April 2.

The two injured constables, Nityanand and Dharambir Singh, had complained against five youths at the Ssector 17 police station.

The two addicts included Gurdeep, a resident of Sector 40 and Saurav of Sector 32 had been arrested earlier.

The incident took place when someone informed the police control room claiming a group of addicts sitting in the house and taking drugs around 3.30 pm on April 2. A joint police team of local beat box and of the PCR wing rushed to the spot after which one of the accused had then attacked constable Nityanand with an iron road. Two other addicts attacked constable Dharambir Singh with sticks. Nityanand received head injuries and Singh received internal injuries on his back. Both the injured policemen were rushed to the GMSH, Sector 16, and were discharged later. — TNS

Gold chain snatched

Two motor-cycle borne snatchers targeted an elderly woman and took away her 25 gm gold chain while she was going to a market with her daughter-in-law from her residence at Phase 3B1 here today.

The victim, Krishna Devi, a resident of Ludhiana, sai: “They came on a black Pulsar motorcycle, snatched my chain all of a sudden and fled away,” said Krishna Devi.

Anu Bansal, daughter-in-law of the victim, said they could not notice the registration number of the motorcycle properly. “It (the motorcycle) was bearing Himachal Pradesh registration number,” said Anu. The police has registered a case at the Mataur Police Station in this connection.
