MC goes a smart way
Ludhiana, March 4
The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation launched an android-based smartphone application today. The application, LMC CRAMAT (Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Citizens Reporting and Mapping Tool), will enable residents to file complaints from their cellphone.

Geriatric care a call away
Ludhiana, March 4
A city-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), Nishkam Yuva Samiti, has launched a helpline for geriatric care. The NGO is just a call away for those in need. Shruti Bansal, a volunteer, said,"Our NGO comprises members aged between 13 and 35. Schoolchildren, college students, servicemen and businessmen are a part of the organisation. All are here to extend help for the noble. The members attend to those patients whose family members are working."

Mid-day meal: Students served ‘dal’ after 2 hours

Students wait for the meal at Government Primary School, Bharat Nagar Chowk, Ludhiana, on Monday. Students of Government Primary School, Bharat Nagar Chowk, were served chapattis, but they had to wait for around two hours for dal/vegetable. The students were served chapattis at 12 pm, but dal/vegetable was not served till 1.45 pm.

Two groups clash, man shot at
Ludhiana, March 4
A 26-year-man was shot at following a clash between two groups at Gujjarwal village near here last night. The victim, identified as Amandeep Singh of Gujjarwal village, suffered a gunshot on his left thigh. He was rushed to the DMCH where his condition is stated to be stable.

11 new low-floor buses added to fleet

Eleven new low-floor non-AC buses were launched for two different routes in the city today. 75-year-old man gets new lease of life

The team of doctors, under the guidance of Dr Anand Sehgal, chief urologist, RG Stone Super Speciality Hospital, Ludhiana, conducted the surgery of 75-year-old man M Singh, who had approached them with urinary blockage, pus secretion in urinary passage and scrotal swelling.

CII office-bearers elected

D L Sharma, managing director, Vardhman Textiles Limited, has been appointed as the new chairman of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Punjab State Council by, while Sanjeev Pahwa, managing director, Ralson (India) Limited, has been elected as the new vice-chairman of CII Punjab State Council, for the year 2013-14.

A two-day workshop on research methodology kicked off at College of Nursing DMC and Hospital on behalf of TNAI Punjab State. It was inaugurated by Prem Kumar Gupta, Secretary Managing Society, DMC&H, Ludhiana. While chief guest was GK Walia, Secretary, TNAI, Punjab state branch. Dr Jasbir Kaur, Principal, College of Nursing DMC&H and President TNAI, Punjab State Branch gave introduction about nursing research and research process. LUDHIANA: The students of Ryan International School, Dugri, brought laurels to the school in the International Informatics Olympiad 2012. The students participated with zeal and enthusiasm and performed wonderfully in the event. The following students bagged state ranks and won gold medals: first- Aryan Gupta (class I), second- Shivansh (class II), third- Srishti Gupta (class II), fourth- Shreya Karipal (class II), fifth Palnika (class III), sixth- Aayush (class V)

LUDHIANA: An "Agro-Processing Complex Entrepreneurs' Association" was formed at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). Chamkaur Singh, Jodha Agro-Food Products, Ludhiana, was elected as the president of the association unanimously along with the other office bearers.

Woman arrested for snatching gold chain
Ludhiana, March 4
The Dehlon police today nabbed a woman for snatching the gold chain of a city resident while he was paying obeisance at Gurdwara Alamgir Sahib a few days ago. The police has also recovered the gold chain from Malkit Kaur, a resident of Kheri village in Sangrur. She was produced in a court and was sent to police remand.

Two arrested for murder
Khanna/Payal, March 4
The police has claimed to have solved a blind murder case and recovered a .32 bore revolver used in the crime. It has also impounded a Maruti car. Two car-borne persons had shot dead a youth on February 21 at Bhrathla Randhawa village.

 


 

Budding gymnasts strike bronze
Ludhiana, March 4
The gymnasts with their medals in Ludhiana. Budding gymnasts stood out in the National Gymnastics Championship. Two gymnasts, who were a part of a five-member Punjab team, secured the third position in the 26th Sub-junior National Artistic Gymnastic Championship held in Patiala from Mach 1 to 3. The championship was organised by the Chandigarh Gymnastics Association.
