Man held with stolen laptops
: The local police has arrested Mool Chand of Karol Bagh, New Delhi, and recovered two stolen laptops and 12 mobile phones from his possession. Senior Superintendent of Police Hardial Singh Mann said following a tip-off, the police arrested Mool Chand alias Mintoo who allegedly traded in stolen goods. A case under Sections 379 and 411 of IPC had been registered against him at the Bassi Pathana police station.

Lightning kills three farm labourers
: Three farm labourers were killed and two others seriously injured when lightning struck Kohala village on the Jalandhar-Kapurthala road in the wee hours of Wednesday. The victims were sleeping in a tubewell room when its roof collapsed after being hit by lightning. Mallo Masih, his son Samsun and Hira Singh were buried alive while Jiwan Lal and Vicky sustained serious injuries. They have been admitted to the local Civil Hospital.

: The post graduate department of Economics, Kamla Lohtia SD College organised an ICSSR sponsored regional seminar on "Information Technology and Changing Dimension of Indian Financial Sector" under the stewardship of Dr Mohd Saleem, HoD of economics. Dr Inderjeet Singh Sidhu, professor, department of economics, Punjabi University, Patiala, was the keynote speaker at the occasion. He discussed the various aspects of IT and its impact on FIRE (Finance, Insurance and Real Estate).

Girl’s vulgar pictures uploaded
: The police has registered a case under Sections 66A and 67 of the IT Act and Section 354-D of the IPC against unknown persons on the charges of loading some vulgar and objectionable photos of a girl student of Lovely Professional University. The police is investigating the matter.

5 get 10-yr jail for raping minor
: A local court on Wednesday sentenced five youths to 10 years' imprisonment for raping a minor girl. Sessions Judge Gurvinder Singh Gill also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on each of the accused - Jagbir Singh, Inderpal Singh Gurmukh Singh, Manpreet and Balvinder Singh. The accused will have to undergo an additional two years in jail for failure to deposit the fine. On May 9 this year, the parents of a 15-year-old girl lodged a complaint against the accused that they raped the girl after abducting her.

Man held, 1.36 kg charas seized:
The Mandi police today arrested Nanda Lal, a resident of Bohlidhar (Seraj), under the NDPS Act after it recovered 1.36 kg charas from him at Lah Gala under Gohar police station. Further investigation was on, the police added.

Narcotics smuggling
:
The Mandi police has launched a special drive to check the smuggling of narcotics and recovered 15.573 kg in 22 cases in the first two months of 2013. This was stated by SP, Mandi, RS Negi.
