Phagwara
Mobile shop burgled
: A mobile shop was reportedly burgled in local Palahai road yesterday. Burglars entered the shop by breaking the locks and took away mobile phones worth Rs 1.5 lakh from the shop. A case has been registered in this regard.

1 held with poppy husk
: The police has arrested Lakhwinder Singh of Badanpur village in Samana with 8 kg poppy husk. A case under various Sections of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. The police is trying to ascertain the channel through which Singh smuggled the contraband.

5-km-long run organised
: With a view to keep the city drug free, a 5-km-long run was organised here on Sunday. Deputy Commissioner Kumar Rahul flagged off the event at the War Heroes Stadium. Local residents, especially the youth, took part with much enthusiasm. In the men's category, Makhan Singh got first position, Gurmail Singh secured second while Bikkar Singh finished third. In the women's section, Saroj Rani and Tarandeep Kaur secured first and second positions respectively. In the under-16 category, Pushpinder Kaur got the first position. — TNS

: Fazilka SSP Amar Singh Chahal, who was recently promoted and designated as the Deputy Inspector General of Police, has been awarded with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

Man booked on eve-teasing charge
: The Chandigarh Police arrested a resident of Nayagaon for forcibly stopping a girl and eve-teasing her near the Sector 14 and 15 light point. The girl, a resident of Chandigarh, alleged that accused Karan forcibly stopped her and threatened her. A case under various sections of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 11 police station. The case is under investigation.

: A 60-year-old unidentified man died in the city and the police has launched an investigation to find the circumstances which led to his death. The police has initiated inquest proceedings.

Woman ends life
: Sunita (22), a resident Brahmpuri, on Saturday committed suicide by jumping before a moving train. She had got married to Adhir Kumar in April last year. Her husband told the police that they had a minor altercation over some issue after which she left the house. He looked for her at her parents’ place and relatives. Later, he lodged a missing person report at the Patel Nagar police station
