HC raps educational societies for ‘duping’ job applicants
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, January 13
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has come down heavily on Mohali-based Rashtree Sarv Sikhiya Abhiyan and Panchkula-based Sarv Saksharta Computer Education Abhiyan societies for allegedly duping job applicants.

The Mohali-based society had reportedly issued public notices stating employment opportunities for unemployed youth through the establishment of computer centres all over Punjab. The society had reportedly issued appointment letters to some candidates too.

During the process, the society had allegedly collected a security of Rs 20,000 from the candidates. In a PIL filed in the matter by advocate HC Arora, it was alleged that the society had not opened any computer centre, due to which the successful candidates failed to get any work despite paying the security amount.

After the representatives of the society failed to appear before the court, despite summons issued through the Mohali SSP, non-bailable warrants were issued against them for January 29.

In another PIL, it was alleged the Panchkula-based society had invited applications for filling 2,529 posts of computer personnel all over Punjab, and had collected money by way of application fee. The general category candidates paid Rs 400, while the SC/ST candidates paid Rs 300 as fee. The society, in the public notice issued for the recruitment, had claimed it was a Central Government organisation.

During the course of hearing, the counsel of the society admitted it had collected around Rs 46 lakh from the candidates. The society agreed to refund the application fee to all the candidates.

The HC, thereupon, directed the society to give a complete list of the candidates, along with the amount of application fee collected from them, so that appropriate directions could be issued for monitoring the process of refunding of fee.

Baljit had tied the knot with Balwinder's elder brother Baldev, but after his death three years ago, she got married to Balwinder.
