Shaheedi Jor Mela ends
Fatehgarh Sahib, December 29 Giani Gurbachan Singh, Jathedar, Akal Takhat, appreciated the efforts of Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra. He said such leaders are need of the hour. Mela also proved to be a boon for Fatehgarh Sahib as Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra highlighted various problems related to the area and demanded the development projects for Fatehgarh Sahib during political conference of SAD (B) on the eve of Saheedi Jor Mela. Reacting to his demands Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal announced setting up of a world class sports stadium as a humble tribute to younger Sahibzadas, housing project of around 200 acres to be developed by PUDA in Fatehgarh Sahib and four laning of Chandigarh-Chuni-Patiala road and Morinda-Fatehgarh Sahib road. He also announced complete sewerage and water supply at the cost of Rs 30 Crore
in Fatehgarh Sahib and a Co-Operative Bhawan in Fatehgarh Sahib. |

Students of GSMCH bring laurels
Banur, December 29 Dr AS Sekhon, dean, Gian Sagar Group of Institutions, and principal of college Dr Jasbeer Kaur said the students of the college had bagged six out of the ten positions in the university. They informed that Lovepreet Kaur had secured the first position in the university while Meetan Preet secured second position. Ankita Lamba had bagged fourth position, Hersimran Kaur fifth position, Navneet Kaur ninth position and Manisha Aggarwal had stood 10th in the

Victims demand action in land grab case
Dera Bassi, December 29 They said that
they thought the local police had booked Jagdish Chand, a resident of Sector 10, Panchkula; Sushil Kumar, a Nambardar and Budh Ram, both of Chhat village under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 193, 196, 199, 209, 211 and 120-B of the IPC on the directions of the court on 17-11-2012 but no action was taken so far. Complainant Rahul Maken, a resident of Sector 21, Panchkula, had written a letter to Director General of Punjab Police in which he alleged that certain persons had grabbed their land measuring 24 bigha and 10 biswas in Kishanpura village by adopting false means. Gurdyal Singh, SHO, Dera Bassi, said the case is under investigation and action would be taken after
completing the inquiry.

Dera Bassi, December 29 Leaders of party of dera bassi, Banur,
Lalru and Zirakpur areas had expressed happiness over the nomination of Dhillon for the post. According to political sources belonging to SAD, it seems that party was preparing its solid base in Patiala district for the forthcoming parliament elections. They said nomination of dhillon would shine the prospects of SAD for the forthcoming parliament elections. Dhillon was denied the Congress ticket in the last assembly elections and he contested as independent candidate from Dera Bassi assembly constituency and received over 51,000 votes against his nearest rival and
the SAD candidate NK Sharma but lost the election. Later, he joined the SAD.

ASI killed in road mishap
Ambala, December 29 When he was crossing the road near polytechnic chowk; a speedy truck coming from opposite direction collided head on with him. The ASI sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to a civil hospital where he was declared brought dead. The truck driver managed to flee from the site leaving his truck abandoned. The police has registered a case against the truck driver and impounded the truck. The traffic lights of this roundabout are lying out of order since several months.

Panchkula, December 29 No mention about Satpal was made in the plea filed in the Panchkula court of Additional District Session’s judge, Sanjay
Sandhir, instead it was stated that his friend Rajinder Singh knew Jyoti and not
Chaudhary. It was mentioned, “The applicant happened to be present on the wedding ceremony of sister of deceased Jyoti because he had given lift to his friend Rajinder Singh for going to the said place and Rajinder Singh thereafter accompanied the applicant to Mukarian and came back to
Baddi,” said the plea. It was stated that Rajinder Singh did not know Chaudhary but
Jyoti. While in the bail plea filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, it is stated, “The petitioner confronted
Satpal, who admitted having relations with the deceased. Satpal is unmarried and hails from Punjab belongs to the same community, as was the deceased. He admits having relations with the deceased and used to call from the cell phone of the petitioner, which often used to be in his custody,” stated the petition. No mention about Rajinder has been made. Regarding the mobile phone locations, it is stated, “Satpal, who had the custody of the cell phone of the petitioner and the car of the petitioner probably drove to Chandigarh.” In the plea filed in the High Court, Chaudhary has mentioned that he, in no case knew
Jyoti, personally. It was also stated that Satpal does not have any other cell phone of his own and accompanies the petitioner all the time, when out of home. While the police of Haryana and that of the Himachal Pradesh claim that Chaudhary and his accomplices are absconding, Chaudhary in his petition said that he is and elected representative and would be the last person to run from the law and in no manner whatsoever can it be presumed that he would evade the course of justice. It was on December 21 when the Panchkula police had reached the residence of Chaudhary at
Sandholi, Baddi with arrest warrants of Chaudhary and his three accomplices,
Gurmeet, Dharampal and Paramjeet after their nomination in section 302(murder) of a 24 year old girl
Jyoti. Jyoti, a BED student was found murdered on November 22 a road near Sector 21
Panchkula. The post mortem examination had revealed that she had undergone abortion in August. Her father said Jyoti was handling the financial matters of
Chaudhary. Chaudhary won elections from Doon constituency on Congress ticket on December 20. Fresh raids conducted by Baddi police The police of Panchkula and that of Himachal Pradesh claim that all family members of Chaudhary have been absconding for the past one week except for two servants, who are present at their residence. Baddi police conducted the raids at petrol pumps, crashers and at Chaudhary’s residence late last night. All routes to Himachal Pradesh have also been

Two arrested with drugs
Chandigarh, December 29 Both accused are drug addict and were carrying the contraband for self-consumption. Sub-inspector Ram Rattan said that both the accused had come to city in search of job and were looking for a room at Sector 22 when they were apprehended. They were produced in the court and were remanded to two-day police remand. The police is now investigating about from where the accused were procuring the drugs. A case under Sections 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 21, 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) has been registered in the Sector 17 police station.
Bangles stolen
A city-based schoolteacher alleged that some unidentified occupants of a car who gave her lift had decamped with her gold bangles. The victim, Indu Narula, is a resident of Sector 22 and teacher with Shishu Niketan Model School, Sector 43. The incident took place in the afternoon. The victim reported to the police said she was waiting for a three-wheeler to go home. In the meantime, a car bearing Haryana registration number stopped and asked her way to Sector 22. According to the victim, there were three women occupants in the car and a man, who was driving. The victim said that they offered her a lift and dropped her near Kishan Bhawan. On reaching home, she claimed that she found her two gold bangles missing. Thereafter, she approached the police and a case was registered at the Sector 36 police station. |

Chandigarh, December 29 The pair of Joshy and Mouli, driving Tata Safari, finished round 5 with a penalty time of just 43 seconds. Continuing their good form and finishing second, 11 seconds behind the winners, was the Erode pair of K P Karthick Maruthi and Sankar Anand in a Mahindra Scorpio. The husband-wife duo Satish Gopalkrishnan and Savera D'Souza finished third. Erode's S Gopalakrishnan and V Sekar topped the pro-stock class, driving a Tata Sumo Gold, the duo completed the rally with a penalty time of 6 minutes 3 seconds. The pair of Pratap Singh Thakur and Dhiraj Arora from Delhi driving Toyota Corolla came second while Bangalore's Chidanand Murthy and Sujith Kumar BS came third.
