Ban on carrying weapons: The Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, has imposed Section 144 of the CrPC ahead of the New Year. The police has also imposed a ban on carrying weapons. The orders will remain into force till January 26. The Commissioner of Police, Ishwar Singh, has also asked hotels and restaurants to get permission before organising parties on the New Year eve.

Drug peddler held :One Chhinderpal Singh of Araianwala village in Fazilka district was caught with the nearly 2-kg of opium yesterday and a case under various sections of the NDPS Act had been registered against him at the Malout city police station, the police said.

Hurt during rape bid, woman dies: A 38-year-old woman succumbed to her inuries that she received while trying to resist a rape bid on Wednesday. The accused, Kamaljit Singh of Chak Bilga village has been arrested. Congress leader Nimisha Mehta blamed the Deputy CM for the deteriorating law and order situation.
