Notably, the court had issued non-bailable warrants against the accused on November 26 following the presentation of a challan by the Mohali police on October 25, but the police had failed to arrest the accused. Even the case under Sections 120-B, 306 and 506 of the IPC and Sections 7 and 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act against the accused was registered on August 18 following the intervention of the Mohali court. The police had also set up a special investigation team in the case, but could not nab even a single accused. Manjit Kaur, wife of the deceased, alleged that the police did not want to arrest the accused for obvious reasons. "Even the challan, which the police had presented in the case, is nothing less than a formality," alleged Manjit Kaur. She added that her husband ETO Ranjit Singh, who committed suicide on April 23 last year following his arrest by Amandeep Kaur on the charges of corruption, was falsely framed in a case, which forced him to take the extreme step. |
